As a restaurant, Dos Amigos is not bad. The drinks are decent, the service is very friendly, and the food is okay. As a Mexican restaurant, however, it's pretty lousy.
We went in on a Sunday evening for dinner, and were able to get a table pretty quickly. The waiter heard us speaking English, and came over to ask if we needed English menus. We didn't, but he also explained that the "sizzlers" on the menu were actually fajitas, that that was their name for fajitas. This puzzled me, because "sizzlers" is neither a Spanish or German word, and if the food is known as "fajitas" in Spanish, then why change it for the German market? Seemed odd.
Anyway, we ordered some chips with their three dips (salsa, guacamole, and cheese) to start, and I ordered the chicken enchiladas as my entree, with a paloma to drink. The Paloma wasn't very flavorful (I traded it to my wife for her Margarita, which was much better), and the salsa for the chips was great; actually spicy, which is hard to find in Germany.
The enchiladas were not really what I would consider enchiladas. They were more like a cone of flour tortilla filled with layers of refried beans, then chicken; then tomatoes and whole beans, and baked until all the cheese melted. It actually tasted okay, but "enchilada" means "chilied", and there was no chile or spiciness to be found.
My wife had a salad, which she enjoyed a lot. The service was great, and the ambiance is okay. Probably not a place I would go back to, but also not terrible if you don't know much about Mexican food. read more
