This was one of my least favorite locations. I came in for a burrito but as it was being prepared I noticed some of the ingredients didn't look fresh, especially the lettuce. It was around 6PM or so, maybe they didn't feel the need to have fresh vegetables since it was later in the day. We (3 of us) visited this place at Penn Station. Each one of us sat on the table talking about the nasty attitude all four of employees had. I asked for a second quesadilla and the response was "can we finish working with this one first" in a very passive aggressive tone. At the cashier, she kept saying "anything else" in a very rushing manner like the world was going to end or there's a huge line - there was only 1 behind me. Beyond the nasty attitude we were greeted with, the food is ok, hence the 1 star. Otherwise, I would give a zero (if that was possible). The place is clean. Even though the workers were matter of fact and seem like they did not want to be there- it is okay. The tacos and ingredients were fresh! Seriously- never cared much for fine casual or the like, but this time and this location, totally deserved a review! That was how fresh it was. Usually the brookfield location does not have the foot traffic as this location does, so that may explain the slight inconsistency with the ingredients. Meanwhile, their soft corn taco shell was soooo fresh like straight from scratch-made. Luckily I ordered 2!! The corn and sour cream were glistening and it was apparent from the bites that can pick up whether it was sitting around for a while or just came into existence not too long ago and made it to their serving tables. Two words: NEVER AGAIN! Cheap tortilla falling apart, not enough flavor in the steak and chicken. Luckily the carnitas was Eh, nothing compared to Chipotle and any taco truck I've experienced. Only good experience was the staff being helpful and not kicking me out and letting me continue to eat there when they were cleaning up the restaurant. me and my friend were walking around NYC and seen a couple of these restaurants during our walk. All of the locations were closed on sunday except this one, so when we walked back by it, we decided to stop inside. There was only one other person inside when we got there so service was fast since there wasnt a line. I ordered a steak taco and a chorizo taco. My friend got nachos. The tacos themselves werent that bad but they were great either. The steak tasted good and they loaded the tacos up. They were falling apart though with the toppings I had and was hard to eat as a taco. I should've got the burrito if I knew they were really gonna load those things up like they did. Although the tacos werent bad they also were kind of basic and nothing special in terms of flavor. The workers working this day were friendly though and the place was very clean. I dont know if I would return since Im hardly ever going to be in NYC but I wasnt mad at the meal. It hit the spot for that moment. read more

We were really looking forward to coming back to Dos Toros after having had it about 10 years ago while visiting NYC. I was disappointed when I walked in because the place was so dirty! Employees were standing around talking. There were no customers until we walked in. The tables should have been spotless. We had taken the subway across town to go to the most highly rated Dos Toros. It was not worth it. We ordered a bowl with chicken. The chicken was dry. The serving countertop also was not clean. If we hadn't traveled so far, I may have walked out. Customer service wasn't great either. Somebody should have greeted us when we walked in. But they were too busy chatting it up in the back. This experience was a let down. read more

But the food is very reliable, if you've had it once you know exactly what you're gonna get. I appreciate that. It's good, the protein is better than chipotle, and I love that you can get the tortilla chips in the burrito. If you need a quiet lunch while you're on lunch I'd try it. read more

Been to Dos Toros multiple times and at different locations. On this occasion, we had the slow-cooked carnitas bowl. The service was prompt and we didn't have to wait long to get our food prepared. Onto the burning question ; is this place better than it's main competitor Chipotle. The answer is yes... And no. This bowl is about a dollar cheaper than a similar product at Chipotle. In my opinion, Dos Toros' bowls are slightly smaller than at Chipotle so that also means less food. The taste is similar but if you twist my arm, I'd say Chipotle tastes better. But it's a toss up. Also worth mentioning that this location has very limited seating. If you want a quick bite for a decent price hit this place up. read more

Im just so shocked to find a place with great tacos thats not a Moms and Pops. It could be that I was really hungry, I don't know, but this place has been on my radar for awhile. My first couple times I felt Chipotle was better, but over the last couple years I have felt the food fresher and better quality at Dos Toros, and felt this experience was no different. Service wise, note that this location does seem to get a good amount of online orders; it seemed like quite a few had to be filled before the servers had time to build my bowl. I opted for a build your own, with cheese and various topping. All in all, a very standard Dos Toros experience (if you have never been, think fast casual Mexican in the vein of Moe's and Chipotle). Had the Carne Asada burrito, the steak was grilled to perfection, condiments were fresh and well seasoned, both the green and red sauce were on point. I also sampled their chicken taco, serving of meat was generous as were the guac and salsas, great for when you need that extra something to fully fill you up. Ordered the Impossible Bowl for pickup. Dos Toros Taqueria reminds me of Chipotle. This was my first time ordering here. I got the Impossible Bowl, which comes with impossible shredded meat (vegetarian!!), rice, pinto beans, corn, cheese, salsa, romaine, sour cream, and tortilla chips! Impossible Bowl: 4/5 Great combination of ingredients. I absolutely LOVED the Impossible meat - such a luxury for a vegetarian to have a different source of protein besides your typical tofu! The order was a bit cold so... definitely a minus there. Service: Staff was nice with arranging my order. The food was somewhat cold and lukewarm, which was a bit disappointing. Price: Similar to Chipotle pricing. Definitely worth trying the Impossible Bowl though if you're vegetarian - it's quite different from the sofritas. Better tasting version of Chipotle! Previously I was eating Chipotle across the street a few times a week but I've converted after trying this place out a week ago. Prices are pretty much the same with very similar portions. Carne Asada (Steak) is just hands down much better here. Chipotle steak is always a bit dried but you don't have that issue here. Happened to be waking around Union Square Park at lunch time. I noticed the place was empty with a few seats open, so we walked in and I ordered a chicken bowl with guac, corn, black beans and farro, mild sauce and diced tomato. I have to be honest, i would have definitely wanted to eat it from Chipotle bit i didn't want to walk further. Well, since, we were starving i didnt take a pic, but i will tell you that my bowl was a sad looking bowl. The staff is super friendly, as usual they wanted me to add all the items that bulk up the price of the bowl. So i felt like they only cares about the "Upsell" and not the customer, the chicken it self was dry and not moist and for as much as I always think about giving my hard earned money to small business. I felt my money didn't go far in terms of flavor and quantity. The seats were super uncomfortable, while i get they dont want you to sit for an extended period of time, i certainly would not recommend sitting in the store to eat. This is a grab and go place but the food was just mediocre at best. And for $12 a bowl, because the guacamole adds a $1.89 to the price, my plate was not very tasty. Seems like not enough sauce or tomatoes. Oh well you live and learn. Another issue was they have no bathroom at all, so washing hands is impossible, lucky for me that i always travel with alcohol wipes, and a spare bottle of water for this type inconveniences specially because i knew i was going to be out in the park all day long. Definitely no place to wash my hands, makes the difference but my coworker wanted to eat here and i didnt want to be rude, so i was prepared. read more
