We all know the drill-come in, take a number, and wait for your number to be called to a window. Many places feel like the movie Beetlejuice where you sit waiting with your number forever. Not here-they move quickly. The reason is the staff. They have great people who know what they're doing and they help each other make it go faster. I've gotten a driver's license changed to this state, cars and boats and RVs titles and registered in the state. All without difficulty. I've had one issue where the machine registered a cost where it shouldn't because it wasn't approved which could have been a real issue but it was handled with one phone call. Again-staff to the rescue. It's shocking that especially now with cuts to government causing people stress to work there and go there for service, that it could be this good. But, it is and I thank them for making it happen easier and with a smile.

The mail carriers are accurate and reliable. The ones that have brought items to the door are fantastic...even on weekends. I am happy to recommend the Winston Post Office. They are wonderful!

The library is probably the best community feature in Sutherlin. It is a nice newly remodeled…read morefacility and the atmosphere is peaceful with a lot of natural light. I go there often to work on school work. I can access the free wi-fi on my laptop from anywhere in the building, even from the parking lot. There are several computers for community use also. In the summer there is a great weekly reading program for children and I believe there is a weekly story time for younger children which runs year round. There is a kids room and also a room for young adults.

In A Nutshell: -It's…read morenot too often you can actually walk down to a dam & watch real fish inside the water like an aquarium. -You can do that at Winchester Dam and Fish Ladder, which is a National Historic Landmark in our great country the USA. -You can easily find parking in the small lot, then walk down the concrete/mental stairs towards the dam. -There are plenty of places to take some really nice photos of the entire dam & Umpqua River. -As you walk down the steps towards the fish count area, you will be able to see real fish struggling against the strong currents through glass. -You can see all sorts of fish if you wait a little. This is a small but vital library for the town. I came here to donate a box of books that we had but didn't want and get my library card. Is this a 5 compared to big city libraries-probably not but service is wonderful-so funny and kind and I found multiple books that I was excited to read and I didn't have to drive to Roseburg. That's a 5 in my library book all day long!! Let's support the Winston Library. I'm so happy you're here!

Coming from a guy who hasn't had a good track record dealing with authority my entire life there are those that I have to give credit where credit is due. I sat with some pretty colorful people in my short time there that had me sleeping with one eye open. I couldn't do what they do and keep a smile when I seen and heard the rage coming from all around, day in and day out. I had my moments as well but held it together without too much confrontation. These men and women who deal with not just the crazy but the insane deserve a level of respect that I don't think they receive as often as they should. We're all human and we all have a breaking point but it takes a special person to hold it together when it seems most of the people you deal with on a daily basis hate you. That's putting it lightly from my short experience there. It wasn't cool, at all. I hope I never have to go back but it was an eye opener. If I ever have to deal with an officer who seems cold and hollow I'll remember why and try not to be the reason and just be reasonable to the best of my ability. Douglas County Courthouse is home to several services. It houses the county commissioners, district…read moreand circuit courts, county clerk, and the sheriff's office, just to name a few. The building is architecturally appealing. Its beautiful exterior features a large front lawn that is anchored by a large Elm tree and a memorial ring garden honoring military service. Inside the courthouse is quite different. The older sections show signs of its age with anachronistic plumbing, walls, and doors, while the newer sections are designed with a modern layout and updated equipment.
