Four years later updating as my neighbor and I have been forced out of our apartments by the DOB due to a slew of violations on the property- the most important ones being the illegal construction of backyard doors and conversion of a storage cellar into dwelling spaces- our bedrooms. Nice clause on the bottom of the broker agreement releasing these folks of any liability after happily telling me I could easily fit a queen sized bed in a death trap. These "expert advisors" are in cahoots with some of the filthiest slumlords in BK. Always check the DOB website for violations certificates of occupancy and landlord watchlists before proceeding.

However, the agent I worked with, Melissa, basically lied about many details of the apartment I ended up renting and was only out to make her part of the commission. The apartment was being "renovated" when I saw it. Melissa said the landlord would replace everything, put screens in the window and that the apartment came with a ceiling fan in the kitchen. Melissa stated that the landlord is great and the "super" does excellent work. She was very persistent when it came to collecting the deposits and fees, but her dedication fell off shortly afterwards. I requested to see the apartment again before the move in date to ensure all repairs had been made. BAB was unable to make that happen and began diverting my questions to the agent representing the landlord. On my move-in date, the "super" was still repairing the bathroom, there were no refrigerator or stove, the ceiling fan had been replaced with a used light fixture, the windows did not have any screens, and a filthy stove hood was in the kitchen. (The appliances were delivered after 6 PM that evening. Therefore, I didn't have any heat because National Grid could not turn on the gas without a stove.) Over the last month, I have made several requests to have BAB do something about all these issues, but nothing has been done. When I began my complaint to Melissa, she tried to say that she didn't say everything would be "new" or "replaced". She basically just stopped responding to me. At that time, Ernest became the contact person, and he assured that everything would be taken care of. He claimed to have contacted the landlord's agent and more useless promises were made. I was told that the super would replace the hood and install the screens "when the weather got warmer". I recently followed up with the super and he told me that he doesn't install screens. Communication has been horrible. They haven't even been able to supply a contact number for management...just the address to mail monthly rent checks. This has been a disappointing experience. My next step will be contacting a lawyer to see what my rights are concerning this mishap. I have a huge paper trail to document everything. It's great to see how wonderful BAB has been for everyone else...wish it could have been for me as well.

We originally discovered Saki through multiple 5-star reviews online, all of which were raves about him, and all of which we have now verified are completely accurate. When we reached out, we had a condo in mind and wanted to find out if Saki was available incase we put in an offer in that weekend. Within 24 hours, Saki had already put together comps for the area, research on that property and lots of information about the neighborhood. At that point, we hadn't even met him in person! There was a technicality with the condo that would have prevented Saki from being our agent, and he was still willing to spend hours helping us with a deal that wouldn't benefit him financially. Ultimately, we decided that particular property was not the right fit and kept looking, this time with Saki. Over two months, we visited several properties. Saki was always so honest, and delivered his true impression and value of the property. He was not afraid to share when he felt we could do better in our price range, and truly wanted us to find the right condo that we could spend many years living in. As first time buyers, we had a lot of questions, and he was incredibly responsive, patient and thorough. When we finally found the right property, the negotiation process and buying process was so much easier than we had been prepared for after horror stories from friends. No patience at all, every time we had a question she would get defensive and borderline rude. We are writing to attest some truthful hints so that others won't make our mistake. She DOES NOT represent the COMPASS brand well at all, actually she does totally the opposite.
