Let me start this review by mentioning that both my husband and I were patients with the Dowell Dentist Group for the last 3-4 years. Until last week, when their office called to say that: 1. our dentist (the only good one in the practice, IMO) had left and, 2. they were no longer going to take Medicare insurance!! Now they are refusing to tell me where our favorite dentist has gone. Even the first year that my husband was seeing these folks, working with a different dentist, they seriously over billed us and filed the insurance incorrectly. It took me over six months and multiple billing rounds to clear up the thousand$ of dollars of over charges. I don't trust any doctor/dentist who has one hand in my pocket while he is treating me. read more

I have been a patient for nearly 20 years. Over this time, I have had routine cleanings, fillings, and even braces. I drive over an hour to see Dr. Dowell because he is a great dentist and I trust him. He has went above and beyond to make sure I am completely satisfied. Although Dr. Dowell is very friendly and welcoming I am less than happy about my experience with him. I didn't have dental insurance and went to him for an annual cleaning. During the cleaning, Dr. Dowell informed me I had six (!!!) small cavities. I have never had a cavity before or since I've seen him. I paid nearly $2000 to have them drilled and filled. And since I've had to have ALL of them replaced because they were done so poorly. Perhaps, I did truly need six cavities filled. But I doubt it. When I called to complain, the woman at the front desk said they would repair the fillings but that I would have to cover the cost. No thank you. I've had them corrected since with a dentist that doesn't rip me off and do crap work . read more

Not at all happy with the service. Dr. Dowell is a good dentist but when we started there we were told he accepted our insurance and after receiving a bill for over 500.00 we were told he does accept the insurance but he does not accept the amount of insurance is willing to pay. My husband had extensive work done on his teeth and is now to the point he needs partials and they will NOT complete the work until we pay our current total of 951.00 plus 2,460.00 for the partials. I am sorry but I do not walk around with 3,000 extra dollars. Their pricing is way to high and unfortunately I am having to switch dentists so that my husband can get the work done that he needs before ALL his teeth fall out. I was told that if I would have followed a payment schedule that it would not be a problem and they are right HAD I been offered that option but since I wasn't, here we are. NOT AT ALL HAPPY. My son also see's this office and was sent to have braces on and that after his braces he was to have some filling put in where the gap in the teeth are; the orthodontist has attempted several calls to this office with no reply. I was told I had cavities, scheduled the apt and was called and told they would not fill my cavities because I owed them money; left a message on my phone. So basically what this boils down to is poor patient care all the way around unless you have money to throw all around for them. I have decent dental insurance and YET they want more!! read more
