Want to be taken advantage of when you're emotionally distressed? Then come to this vet! Awful company, awful vet. DO NOT bring your animals here! We brought our pet rat (Handsome Jack) in here who was pretty broken. I knew he had to be euthanized but was hoping for some good news. The vet barely glanced at him and said no, he won't make it. First, the vet stood there while our animal suffered telling us "anecdotes". My daughter and I were crying and I finally handed the box holding Jack to him, trying to hint that we should get on with it instead of letting our poor rat lay there while he panted out his last breaths. Then we weren't allowed in the back to be with Jack while he was euthanized, and I've always been there with our animals at the end. And the best part? They charged us over 200 dollars. I'm sorry, but when I had to have my Great Dane euthanized it cost the same amount at my previous vet. Unfortunately, we have just moved and I had to find the closest vet. I called around to several other places after the fact and discovered, much to my dismay, that the average price for euthanizing a young rat is, on average, about 80 dollars. Terrible, awful experience with this vetrinarian clinic. I hope they go out of business because they treated our pet with a distinct lack of respect and then they swindled us when we were feeling our worst. read more

***WARNING!*** Please avoid this vet at all costs!! Dr. Mogavero was very rough with my senior cat and did a procedure he did not recover from. I was told after the fact that it was "just cosmetic". I was unaware of that or else I wouldn't have gone thru with it all. It is clear to me its because he was after the pay out. This is clearly a cash grab for him and he is rude to you if he thinks you cant afford it. I am disgusted with the way he treated my family. He was insensitive and awful to us. I believe that he is 100% responsible for my cats swift decline and death. He also works out of the emergency vet/ Mohawk Animal Clinic, West Park and Wilson St. Vet Clinic. Took a cat here that I found hanging around my neighborhood after spending a few days trying to catch it due to it having what looked to be a large and very infected wound. When my wife called she specifically informed them that it was not our cat and asked if we should take it to the vet or SPCA, which they said that we should bring it there. We even agreed to pay out of our own pocket to have the cat examined. once we brought the cat in to be examined, they informed us that treating the cat would cost about $600 on top of the examining fee. When we asked if they checked to see if the cat was microchipped, he confirmed they didn't by asking their staff to check at the moment after being asked. When we declined the treatment due to the cat not being ours and not exactly being in the position to pay that amount, he informed us he was going to offer to charge us $300.00 to put the cat down (for a cremation service for a cat that didn't belong to us) or we need to take the cat with us. he Then proceeded to blame us for not going to the spca even though my wife specifically asked if that was what we should do prior to bringing the cat to them. My impression is the guy was basically guilting us into paying a large sum of money. When my wife returned to pay for the examination and to collect the cat, the cat was left in The carrier that we borrowed just to take the cat there with no bandages on and bleeding everywhere. So when she returned to the car with a cat in a bloody mess, I went in to question how a person who's job it is to "care" for animals appears to lack basic compassion to take 2 min and a couple bucks worth of supplies to at least bandage the wound like I did prior to bringing the cat in to see him. He literally ran away and had a staff drive him off of the property like a coward. so for our efforts we were left with a bloody cat that we had to bandage up ourselves and out of pocket $113.00 and a cat that has nowhere to go due to it being Easter Monday. i have brought two separate loose dogs to this location to be scanned to find the owners and the mature female staff member was great and she was fine this visit. If you want a vet who is kind to animals I do not recommend this clinic. The vet in charge of this clinic who happens to own the Mohawk clinic chain is just rude. As I waited for our first meeting my 4 month old Labrador puppy was sleeping on my lap in my arms. She is a cuddle bug which I love. The vet approached and quickly said to me it was not a good idea to have her on my lap. So you wouldn't say that to a human holding a toddler would you? My dog happens to be so well behaved and trained and at the same time is very affectionate. But I gave him a chance to prove his vet skills. we had to get booster shots. Well he was not only disconnected from my dog but uninformative and a little rough. He could not tell me about her weight gain or even about her teeth, nail trimming and I had to ask about her eye infection which was another issue I was there for. He quickly judged me in a condescending manner about the raw/kibble mix of food I am using as well. He told me he had no suggestions as he didn't know the calories or food type she was getting. Dude take a nutrition course! He is a business man that believes only in the food he sells and makes money with. But he is a terrible salesman lol The receptionist on the other hand was lovely and very helpful. She calculated the weight and time frame from the last visit from an other location and it was clear she was growing at a healthy rate. I rescued a 3 year old dog who had NEVER been seen by a vet so I decided to at least get her shots. First visit shots (dont know which ones until handed the bill) which cost about 500, I thought ok well at least I know she is up to date. Once the bill was paid they tell me I have to take her back in a months time for a booster(never explained it was just a flu shot) he then told me it would only be 50 doillars. The day before my new dog broke a nail, right at the fur line, it bled that day and she was constantly licking it etc.... So the next day during the booster I asked for his opinion, he picked up her paw, looked at it, said nothing to me and just kept doing his thing with my dog. I seen him give her more than one shot, and when he was done we walked up to the counter where I was handed a small box(heartworm pills) and then Yet another bill for 450 dollars. Now I dont know if this CROOK thinks I have a money tree out back or something but I am on a low fixed income and each time I took her there, to help him with a new BMW or something, left me running to food banks. DO NOT GO HERE. If I could I'd give this clinic -3 stars!! The vet is a complete lunatic .. my cat had an eye infection I called and asked the price for a visit and they said 120 so I brought him here I was waiting to see the vet and asked to use the washroom and the girl said no it's for staff only because a couple months ago someone had "a big diarrhea" and now no one can use it. Umm ok .. then the vet yelled at me because wasn't wearing a mask and I said I didn't know I was supposed to wear one cause the mandate was gone or so I thought. he yelled in my clinic you do and if you don't want to wear one you can get out.. wtf? I have no probably wearing one I just didn't know we were supposed to. Then when he came to check out my cats eye he said I have to take him in the back to look at his eye and I said ok .. he came back 2 mins later he said it's a virus and gave me meds to give him as I left to pay the girl said it was 360 and I was like what ? 360 for what ? And she said the consultant and extra testing and the meds. I said what extra testing. The vet came out and started yelling at me in front of everyone saying pay your bill over and over. I said sir you did not tell me you were doing extra testing and you certainly didn't ask if I was willing to pay that amount. He was yelling and screaming about me paying my bill and I said I'm not paying for something I wasn't in formed I was going to have to pay for and he then said it was my responsibility to ask for pricing.. How am I suppose to asking the price of tests I didn't even know were happening. At one point he even said would you go to a grocery store and not pay your bill and I said of corse not because the pricing is visible and I have the choice to either pay for it or not and I have the opportunity to decide if I want it or not.. he was screaming and pacing back and forth going in and out of rooms looking for his staff.. I said ok Im not doing this anymore I will pay for what I agreed to, tbe 120 and the meds and the girl said you have to pay what we say or we will call the police and I said ok call the police I think that's for the best and then the vet came back yelling again and yell get out and never come back .. uummm as if I'd go back there ... This clinic is complicit with their lousy vet. In 2011...Dr (?) Mogavero was my vet with my 3 ferrets. This idiot is not worthy of being called a vet....I got charged almost $1000 for a check up. He has since 'moved on' and I feel sorry for other victims. He never once said he knew nothing about treating ferrets...but/and they continued to gauge me financially...and gave me no help or advice in return. At one point he wanted to operate on my 2 lb fuzzy baby - which would have led to her death. Please be careful...he gives other vets a bad name. I still haven't gotten over it. Obviously. read more

The vet here told me the way to cure my rabbit was a hay only diet. I was charged an obscene amount for a check-up and had to take him to another vet. They informed me he had an obstruction and was likely in constant joint pain and that is why he was pulling his hair out and lethargic. Same thing happened when I had to bring my cat in for an emergency to Mohawk clinic, not knowing her worked there as well, he charged me over 600 for bloodwork and subcu fluids only to tell me he had no idea what was wrong with her. He didn't offer xrays, ultrasound, or stool testing. Nothing. He said I could bring her back the next day but he 'would be shocked if she wasn't better.' She was not better. I went back. He wouldn't even take her in. I told him I wanted pain meds at least until I could get her in to her regular vet and asked him if in her condition if he would suggest an nsaid or narcotic and he responded 'I can't tell you what kind of pain meds to give your cat.' Had my male cats 3rd set of shots/rabies vaccine here, as well as having him fixed. Staff were pleasant and personable during my first visit. My kitten jumped off the table during the vaccination with the needle/syringe still stuck in him, as I guess he was not held propery by the vet tech. After retrieving him as he had hopped to the floor, the vet instructed the tech to stretch him out and hold him differently. That is fine, but she used the same syringe and reinserted it without changing the tip. Once a needle is inserted, the tip is dirty and has to be changed, even if it is going back into the same body. When I asked about that (but did not say why or that I was a nurse) the vet replied that "It did not hit the floor", and proceeded to use the same syringe/sharp tip. Also I do not understand how they could ensure he got the entire contents of syringe as he jumped off and syringe and tip were still in and fell out. Some had to have leaked out. The vet quoted me a price for him to be fixed at that time, which was higher than most vets I had called. I called about having him fixed and again asked what the price was as I no longer had the paper with figure for estimate, it had been about a month and a half since his last shots. I asked for another quote over the phone, which I was given. I asked if that included taxes and was told yes. I asked if that included pain medication and was told yes. When he went to get fixed they called me thereafter and let me know all was well, and I appreciated that, thought it kind and thorough service. I went to pick him up AND WAS TOLD I OWED THEM 50 DOLLARS MORE THAN I WAS QUOTED OVER THE PHONE. Of course, the lady I spoke to over the phone was not in. I was first offered the option of them not giving me any pain meds to go home with and they would take them off of the price so it would be only 15 dollars more than they quoted me, but he would have had no meds for pain. The vet told me several times that she had already quoted me a price (and it had been several weeks so I sincerely could not recall the figure which was why I went into specifics over the phone with a member of their staff). She went on to say that the staff I spoke to was unavailable. She then said she wasn't the owner, a few times. All the while she was interupting as I was speaking , speaking both quicker and louder than I noted in any of our previous interactions. She also told me that the woman I spoke to on the phone had such back problems she could barely walk and that she had saved 100s of cats this week; though I do not see how that is pertinent to them charging me 50 dollars more than agreed upon. They did knock 30 dollars off, but still more than they said it would be. THE SHEER CHEEK OF IT, THE THING THAT BOTHERED ME MOST is that as I was leaving the vet said "And the surgery went well, if that matters," in a very haughty, sarcastic tone. I found it quite upsetting, not only the quote difference, the very poor attempt at any resolution, bringing staff health and good deeds into it(though with what they charge those hundreds of saved cats brought in a pretty penny) in an attenpt to derail me from what my concern was and the final demeaning sarcasm.....it was poor.
