This bakery is a gem and softens the blow of losing Provence. If only they made a fruit tart like Provence and carried Dancing Goat coffee. Such an interesting space, you can watch the bakers behind glass, sliding loaves in and out of the oven, racks of bread cooling. At Saturday & Sunday brunch you can order eggs scrambled with cheddar cheese on the side of a toasted, buttered baguette and I often do. During the week the only eggs on offer come on a breakfast sandwich - scrambled with white cheddar, topped with roasted cherry tomatoes and pesto on toasted oatmeal bread. As you would expect the bread is the star, dense and moist with a crunchy crust. This morning I had a Kouign Amman which Wikipedia tells us "is a puff pastry with fewer layers, similar to a muffin-shaped, caramelized croissant." It was wonderful with my coffee. I have to say, everything I've had here is pretty special. The Buttermilk Pear pie is a good example. It's not too sweet! Such restraint with sugar at a bakery is so encouraging. In contrast, the Almond Croissant is filled with a decadent almond paste. Perfectly sweet. Impossibly flakey. Last year I tried the pumpkin pie. Light and fluffy, more like pumpkin whipped creme than the traditionally dense pie. I need to try the scones. Who are we kidding, I need to try everything. I love this charming cafe and great brunch spot in Wedgewood-Houston! Dozen Bakery is pretty gorgeous - big windows, poured concrete floors, tons of natural light - a great place for brunch. They (obviously) have beautiful pastries and desserts, but they also have a menu of sandwiches for brunch (and some other items). My fiance tried their sourdough waffles (the special the morning we went), and I had the trout tartine - an opened faced sandwich with smoked trout salad, slices of pear, fennel fronds, and pickled mustard seeds. SO good - and not too heavy or too large of a portion! We really enjoyed our brunch and will definitely go back! read more

Nothing better than crusty, warm, right out of the oven bread, am I right? Get there at 7 am when they open and pick yourself up some yeasty goodness. Dozen Bakery knows what they're doing when it comes to making bread the right way. Crispy on the outside and oh so lovely on the inside. They are hard to find though as the signage is NOT the best and kind of in the middle of no where, but I think that's half their charm! You park on the side, yes in the gravel parking lot, and go in the front (not the back like I tried to do). Follow the umbrellas out front...tip of the day! I gave them four stars as they don't have enough drink options and those they do are a little steep (I.E. $5 for soda). Also the peanut butter cookie I purchased was super dry and crumbly. Sorry Dozen peeps, I like a moist peanut butter cookie. HOWEVER, I do see others have mentioned good stuff about other pastries, so I promise to try some of those during my next visit. This is a definite DO NOT MISS for breakfast and brunch in Nashville! The man and I stopped in for brunch on Sunday before returning home to GA. It was awesome! The first thing we loved was ample parking in the private lot. That makes things so much easier when you dont have to deal with parking concerns. The exterior of the restaurant is very Industrial, with a cute patio area. Upon walking in, it has a great urban feel with a welcoming staff. I loved the aromas of fresh breads and breakfast. I also loved how the days menu was written on paper on the wall. My husband and I enjoyed several dishes including a fantastic peach and cucumber bowl, a breakfast sandwich, cookies and more. We were very impressed with all of the health conscious options. It was also cool to watch the bakers process through the clear windows. Dozen Bakery is THE spot in Nashville for breads, pastries, and pretty much any baked treat you could want, whether sweet or savory. What are some of my favorites, you ask? The first thing that comes to mind is the split baguette with butter ($4) and avocado (+$1), topped with several generous cranks of freshly cracked black pepper. The bread has the perfect amount of crunch and chew, and I'd never before thought to put butter on avocado toast (spoiler alert: it's really good). This thing is huge and can honestly fill up two people. I have a hard time thinking of a better value in Nashville. Avocado toast for two at $2.50 per head? Unheard of, really! It's a great, budget-conscious option for breakfast or lunch. Next up is that kid-in-the-candy-store feeling I get while waiting in line and drooling (on the other side of the plexiglass) over their daily selection of treats. Croissants, cookies, muffins, tarts, scones, pies, cakes--I always have more trouble narrowing it down than finding something that looks good. It ALL looks good. And it tastes even better. Finally, their lunch options are a favorite of mine. They offer a selection of soups, several salads, tartines, baguette sandwiches, and combos featuring each. I usually go for the 1/2 baguette sandwich + salad combo. At $9, the quality and quantity are just right. I leave feeling good about the fresh food I've eaten, while full but not weighed down and needing a nap, like you get at so many other Nashville hot spots. Dozen is one of those cozy, friendly, and comfy place to get quality everything. From their food to bakery items you can taste the quality and freshness in every bite. It's nice and roomy inside with decent parking at any given time. It does get busy for lunch but rightfully so. Visiting Nashville and stumbled upon this bakery. Great find! Just stopped here again on our way to the airport. Got here a couple minutes before they opened and the line was 5 people deep. A few minutes later it was 15 people deep. (But don't worry, it moves quickly!) The baguette with butter is exactly what you want it to be. Egg sandwich is messy with tomato and pesto and melty cheese - delicious! We have also had the orange kouign amann, blackberry almond muffin, cherry cornmeal scone and orange ginger scone. This is such a cute little place! I love the simplicity of the shop and the decor. It is a perfect little place to stop for some pastries and coffee. I love that the Airbnb we are staying at is so close! I came in for a quick breakfast and coffee run. I was quite tempted to get one of everything especially since I'm not from here. Everything just looked amazing and tasty and I just wanted to try everything! The creama coffee is so good! I usually need to put cream and sugar in all my coffee but I can honestly drink this black! So delish! I ordered the egg sandwich with avocado (additional $1) and it was just amazing! The pesto spread adds the perfect amount of flavor to the sandwich. I got a chocolate croissant and blueberry muffin for my friends. The pastries you get right away since it is already premade. I think the egg sandwich they make everything fresh so there was a bit of a wait on that. Ugh. I know. Right now I'm the vegan in the steakhouse. And after years of reading/writing reviews, I know no one likes the vegan who complains about the steakhouse. I get it. I, someone with gluten issues, came to a bakery. BUT one would think that in a city like Nashville, there would be *some* option available to a sizeable portion of the community, especially one so aligned with the demographic of Dozen Bakery. Allow me to elaborate. I brought my assistant here for a coffee/snack while we discussed business. I'd read of Dozen for years and was looking forward to visiting. We planned on meeting up at 3 which -- I thought -- would give us plenty of time to enjoy the bakery, seeing that it closed at 6. Well, they stop serving food at 3. That was a confusing let down. Seeing that we were there at (a little before) 3, though, we had a few options available to us. I asked about gluten-free pastry or bread options. Unfortunately, I was told, there were none. Bummed but not out, I decided on a salad. A salad would do just fine. But then I was told that the salads weren't gluten-free either? Huh? Whaa? It's vegetables. How and when are raw vegetables not gluten-free? I was told there wasn't anything on the menu that was gluten-free. Ugh. Okay. Whatever. Liquid sustenance, it was. Looking over the small drink menu (I know it's a bakery, not a coffee shop; I was just a bit surprised by the dearth of options), I decided on the Moroccan Jasmine Mint tea. I wasn't given an option as to whether to have it hot or cold so imagine my (non) surprise when I was given a cup of hot water and an 'artisan' tea bag. Did I just spend $2 on a tea bag? I did -- and I was displeased. I asked how long I should steep the tea. I received a blank stare back. As I settled on a 5 minute steep time, I realized my table was covered in water. The tea bag was leeching water from the mug, through the 'artisanal' bag and out the other side. Awesome. I sopped up the mess and grabbed extra napkins to allow for the future/coming mess and steeped. And stewed. After 5 minutes my tea was ready and... soap. It tasted of soap. The tea was almost too floral on the nose but the mouthfeel was soap. I felt like I was being punished. Maybe I was. I leaned into the experience and laughed. Raging against it would have made an unpleasant experience that much more uncomfortable. Two final points: 1.) I didn't take the poor service personally, as I observed patron after patron get similar counter service. 2.) The wifi was strong. If you can digest gluten and arrive by 2, I think Dozen should provide a much better experience for you. Again, I knew that I was going to a bakery but I assumed given its location and demographic that my particular issues wouldn't be that difficult to overcome. Don't call your friend from the cash register just to recite the entire menu to them. Don't be a single party that takes up an entire four top table to balance your checkbook (what) during a busy lunch rush. This place is tiny and super popular. It is not a coffeehouse, bookstore, or library. Be ready at the counter. Set at the appropriate size table for your sized party. Eat your food and leave in a timely manner. I've had their cheese/ham croissants and chocolate croissants, both really good and the iced coffees are great, too. I was needed a jumpstart to my morning and rolled into here for some coffee. I was hoping for a couple of shots in my cup, but settled for just coffee in a cup. The breakfast sandwich was awesome (it tasted like pesto was the secret ingredient). They ran out of coffee when I went to get a second cup, so I just took what was left in my cup put a lid on it. I picked up 6 muffins to go and they were good (and not oily like some of the muffins other places push on you). Best bakery and lunch spot in Nashville for an eclectic cafe meal with decent vegetarian options. Dozen baked all their bread and pastries in house, daily which makes for what I think, the best bread in Nashville. Combined with the mix of traditional and experimental dining options, this is one of my new favorite spots in Nashville. The menu offers breakfast and lunch on weekdays and brunch on weekends. It consists of salads, sandwiches, tartines, soups, and baked goods. You can even mix and match 1/2 a sandwich or tartine with a salad or soup. All the ingredients are extremely fresh and for the most part local as well. The portion sizes are not too big, but definitely filling. I had the egg in a hole with caprese salad which had toasted homemade sourdough and an egg over medium. The bread was toothsome, buttery, crunchy, and not sweet unlike most american bread and the egg was perfectly over medium with a somewhat runny center. The salad was extremely fresh and not overdressed. You could tell it was made to order. My friend tried the benton sandwich which had such a beautiful combination of peaches, pesto, tomatoes, and bacon on a baguette. He was very pleased with it. We split a pastry that was like a croissant with strawberry filling and it was divine. So flaky, buttery, and moist but not too sweet and perfectly paired with the strawberry preserves. Dozen serves Crema coffee, which is some of the best in Nashville, and gives free refills. Though the spot is a little out of the way, it's certainly worth the trip. I went on a sunday for brunch and was pleasantly pleased to not find a line or 45 minute wait or slew or bachelorettes in matching t-shirts. Just some young hip locals and family's enjoying a modern and cozy spot. Dozen is minimally, but expertly decorated to keep the vibe casual but still alluding to the artsy neighborhood it is located in. Even the bathrooms are decked out in cool graphics. First time here so went with the basics. 2 baguettes, a couple croissants, and a scone. Delicious. Came back the next day and got a loaf of rustic sourdough and a loaf of sourdough sandwich bread. Delicious and reasonably priced for the quality. Will be returning on a regular basis. Added bonus is you can call a day ahead and order to make sure they don't run out of what you want. read more

This place is a consistent stop for me on my way to work in the morning. The bakery is amazing (the cookies and pies - my faves are the chocolate chip and ginger cookies and the butterscotch pecan pie - truly fantastic). The breakfast menu is small but they do a fantastic job with the scrambled eggs and there is plenty of breads to choose from (I usually do a small split baguette with butter and jam - with eggs - yum!). Where to start with this beautiful place... I've been a regular here for years. Their food and baked goods never disappoint. Everything is fresh and comes out quick. Since the pandemic hit, they have taken incredible precautions to keep their employees and customers safe. Order only at a walk up window and they place your order in a separate window when it is ready and call your name. Or you have the incredible option of preordering your food and baked goods online 2 days in advance (good if you know exactly what you want). On all of my days where depression is hitting particularly hard, this place is my refuge. I'm lucky to have this place so close to my home, but I would still drive 40 minutes to come here if I had to. Dozen Bakery is worthy of national and international praise! Having moved away from Nashville well over a year ago, I truly do miss it. I didn't know that at the time, however. Whenever I visit a highly acclaimed bakery in another part of the country or world, my immediate comparison still is Dozen Bakery. Time after time, the other great bakeries have fallen ever so slightly short of Dozen in terms of the scones, croissants, and cookies. The scones (cherry cornmeal), croissants (very flaky texture), and cookies (gingersnap is my favorite there, but all are quite delicious) are amongst the best I have ever had, whether you compare to European cities (Rome, Florence, Barcelona are ones that I have been after my first visit to Dozen), or to a city like Boston, where I currently live. Definitely will be going back there when I revisit Nashville sometime! read more
