Although the choice of a dry cleaner is usually based on ease factors such as the proximity to one's home and timeliness; Dr. Cleaners is here to show why it is best to seek out one business over the other. Dr. Cleaners is located in a two-story shopping center on the busy corner of Riverside/Lankershim in the nook locals know as Toluca Lake. Although this shopping center tends to be quite busy; parking shouldn't deter patrons as Dr. Cleaners has designated spots right in front of their shop and a security guard who makes sure everyone parks in the correct areas (plus, underground parking is available). So what merited my visit to Dr. Cleaners? I had a full-sized comforter desperately needing cleaned and saw that the going-rate in the area was $30-$35. However, Dr. Cleaners offers both website coupons and also a 20%-off check in offer for new customers. Clearly I was in (not to mention, let's be frank: Dr. Cleaners is minutes from my apartment). Upon arriving at Dr. Cleaners lugging my cat fur- encrusted comforter; I was greeted by a younger Armenian gentleman. The store was clean, airy, and quiet. The associate on duty began to check me in as I mentioned being a new customer but he turned me over to the regular customer clerk (who I think was initially on a break when I arrived). The process was quick and painless and I mentioned my Yelp check-in offer which he advised to show upon pickup. The great thing about Dr. Cleaners? They are super fast! I was told my comforter would be ready on Saturday (I dropped it off Thursday afternoon). When I returned to pick up my beloved comforter, the associate saw me walking in and already had my comforter ready for me on the counter! Plus, he had already rung it up INCLUDING the Yelp discount! Talk about VIP service! I asked if he was trying to get a positive Yelp review to which he replied, "No, I just remember 90% of my customers". Quite impressive as I was a first-timer! Whether he had an underlying motive or not; this is definitely the way to get a new customer to return. Equally satisfying was the price. The comforter run up for $26 (I thought it would be $30 but perhaps it was lower because it is a full-size) and I got the Yelp discount so it was only $20.80! SCORE! How did my comforter fare? First of all, Dr. Cleaners returned my comforter in those thin, see-through plastic cases comforters come in when purchasing one in the store (with the zippers). NOT a plastic bag like other cleaners. Very swank! The comforter itself is spot free (it has many but no, not milk) and smells very laundry fresh. In fact, it has freshened my whole bedroom and I can smell it when I walk in. Although, that may be a bit overly perfumed for some. My only complaint is that the comforter is a bit more wrinkled than when returned by other cleaners but big deal. It's a bed spread: it will smooth out. I'm not fretting. Long story short, Dr. Cleaners has everything you want: great neighborly customer service, speed, great prices, and quality. It doesn't get much better than that! I found Dr. Cleaners by simply doing a cursory drive by glance at my new neighborhood. The location is on the way to my subway stop so it proved to be very convenient. My first order of business was to have a pair of pants repaired, and have two other dry cleaned (wool dress pants for clarification). I went early in the morning and found a cleanly kept shop with two men behind the counter. The gentleman who helped me wasn't the most talkative but was very polite. After not giving me an exact price on the clothes, they promised a two day turnaround and I left, awaiting to see what their work would reveal. I was pleasantly surprised by a very well fixed garment and standard dry cleaning expectations with my other two garments. What's more, my fear of over pricing was proved untrue, with a reasonable out the door price of less than $13. I will certainly be returning to this business and referring to friends. read more

I've been twice and each time I received terrible customer service. Very unfriendly. The last item they dry cleaned for me wasn't done very well. I could actually understand if they had trouble with it, but there was no communication or notes left about their attempt. Even that would have been appreciated. The item was also damp/wet, not fully dry and seemed to have a mildew type odor. It was worse than when I initially dropped it off. I will not return to this location again. When I first moved to the neighborhood, I went to the other dry cleaner down the street for one of my wool winter coats and I think they charged me close to $30. (I know. Insane.) But after a couple incidents that left clothes not up to par, (I'm being nice) it was obvious their popularity may have taken over the quality. Hence my seeking a new place. I dropped off my pair of shoes just for conditioning on TUESDAY and the guy who was there didn't seem to know if this could be done or not. He took them in anyway, and said they'd call me the next day and let me know if it could be done. NOBODY CALLED. I finally called on FRIDAY and they said, "He took them..." to see if they could do this for me. They said it would be done OR NOT DONE by Saturday, and if they didn't do the work then I wouldn't be charged. NOBODY CALLED SATURDAY EITHER, and guess what? My event is tonight, SUNDAY AND THEY'RE F*#^%ING CLOSED. Oh, and this is my birthday party. We just moved to Toluca Lake and decided to start using Dr Cleaners since they are close by, but that was a HUGE mistake. They shrunk 2 pairs of dress slacks that cost $200 bucks each, because they washed them instead of actually dry cleaning them per the instructions. They also somehow disintegrated several of the buttons on my dress shirts that were also dry cleaned. When I spoke to the owner about the pants being shrunk, his response to me was "maybe you've gained weight". I was mortified... I explained to him that they fit me perfectly well before I brought them in, and somehow within days are now too small. He tried to find any other excuse to blame me and refused to give me a refund for the cleaning or even give me a credit. This place is great. Whether I go early in the morning or at night before they close, the same guy is behind the counter and he's friendly. He'll get my dry cleaning ready when he sees me pulling up, too, which is really nice of him. Dr. Cleaners resurrected my salvage puffy (real feather) jacket. They did such a great job, it looks brand new. They are extremely careful with delicate items, such as scarf material, I don't take my scarves anywhere else. And finally, they know how to remove stains without damaging or altering fabric. Great cleaners, I had everything from expensive gowns to comforters done by this place. Always the best results, the guy behind the counter is very helpful (once told me that sequin dress will loose shine and color if I dry clean, instead told me to rub spots with some alcohol - everything came right off!), if you are running a little late (by little I mean 5min not 20) call him and he will wait for you. They also know their customers so well, that they will get your stuff ready as soon as they see you pulling in the parking at the front. This place is fine for simple, run-of-the-mill dry cleaning. Their prices are good and the clothes come out clean. But if you have anything that needs special care, go elsewhere. I took a white blazer here--one of my favorite clothing items--that had some small food stains on the sleeve and front of the coat. When I got it back, they had spread grossly. The entire cuff of my sleeve was a light brown, and the front of my coat noticeably yellow. I went in angry, and they said that it was a 'risk' of dry cleaning, especially with white. (I also noted a small yellow--not from food--stain on the back of my left sleeve, which they said was just what happens to white fabric over time and there was nothing they could do). I asked them what I could do, and they said to try submerging the entire coat in bleach. Well, I did some research and found that this would likely ruin the silk lapel on the coat, so instead I used a toothbrush with bleach right on the stain locations. It lightened the stains for a day, but in the end, they came back as noticeable as ever, now with a blue tint. The jacket was, I thought, ruined. I took it into another place and told them the story. When I told them Dr. Cleaners had instructed me to use bleach, they actually laughed in my face. The guy called his associate over to tell the ridiculous story. Apparently it wasn't a good idea. Long story short, though, this second place--somehow--got my jacket looking like new. It's beautiful and white, and there are no food nor bleach stains to be seen. And that non-food stain on the back of my sleeve for which Dr. Cleaners couldn't do anything because that was just what happened to white fabric? It's gone too. I like the people at this place. I went there several times before without incident, but that was very basic cleaning, for which I'd recommend them. But if you've anything worse than sweat and very small stains on shirts, I'd go somewhere else in a heartbeat. read more
