In January 2019, I undertook elective vision corrective laser surgery with a Dr. Con Moshegov at the George Street Eye Centre in Sydney. Within a matter of days, I was suffering from intense pain on both corneas. I have since been diagnosed with neuropathic eye pain as a direct result of the surgery.
In February 2019, I had a post-surgical consultation to receive assistance in relieving my ongoing and extreme pain. Dr. Moshegov was drinking both vodka and wine during this appointment, offered me alcohol and made multiple inappropriate comments regarding my physical appearance.
Dr Con Moshegov's actions have impacted on the state of my physical and mental health and I am currently still experiencing high levels of neuropathic pain in both eyes. I have been forced to spend substantial sums of money on health care and medications which has posed a significant financial burden that I struggle with to this day. I have recently been admitted to hospital to receive treatment and support due to my ongoing health concerns.
I participated in a lengthy complaint process with the HCCC and Medical Council of NSW but received no formal apology from Dr Moshegov or financial compensation. I remain concerned that both the HCCC and Medical Council of NSW have chosen not to take strong disciplinary action despite a clear disclosure of harassment and treating a patient whilst intoxicated. It took a great deal of courage for me to come forward, especially due to the fact Dr Moshegov repeatedly warned me not to report his behaviour and contacted me despite being instructed to cease direct communication. As a female patient who was in desperate need of health care, I deserved so much better than this. I strongly believe this man's conduct was both intrusive and inappropriate in nature. I am making this statement in the hope that future patients will not endure the same or similar treatment under his care. read more
