The doctor was gentle and quick which I appreciated but wasn't as warm and welcoming as I'd have liked given it was my first visit. I felt a bit rushed and walked out not feeling compelled to go back. My community nurse recommended another doctor in the area. While the practice doesn't bulk bill, you get what you pay for - a full consultation with the doctor, his or her full attention and an accurate diagnosis. As those who frequent bulk-billing practices will know, this is not always the case. There can sometimes be a bit of a wait, but if you go early in the morning or ring to see if the doctor is on time, this can be avoided. If you want a GP, then look no further.

I recently saw Dr Catherine Poon and she really took time to listen to me and talk me through my treatment options. This practice is classic in the sense that it will book you in at 9:15AM and you might not be called until 10:15AM but the wait is worth it. The waiting room is pleasant enough or otherwise you can duck out for a coffee and reception will call you when the doc is ready to see you.

We had to arrive early in the morning but were then told to go out for an hour or two while we waited. I couldn't eat or drink but the nurse directed my parents towards some shops down the road. They then took my number down in case I had to come back earlier. The nurse tried to take my mind away from the thought of surgery and even let me wear my ugg boots into the operating room. I woke up and was transported back to my parents. Post care was also excellent. They would regularly check on me for a few hours before sending me on my way home. I highly recommend Hunters Hospital and their nurses to those who are anxious about surgery.

I went in to get a health check which was required for a personal matter of travel, and he said he would take care of it on the government system instead of requesting me to pay privately, which is what is usually required. The practice is small, and you can't call in to make a reservation, but the waiting room is small, so it can't be more than 3 person wait. He will do call-outs for locals, elderly people, and small children in emergency matters.
