They specialise in Irish food, meaning that soda bread and colcannon abound. My personal favourite in their Fisherman's Pie, with king prawns, muscles and smoked haddock, topped with cheesy colcannon. All for a tiny £5, and I can never finish it. Their sausages are also delicious, particularly the vegetarian variety. They also have a really good range of main meals that only cost £3.49 a pop. The service has always been grand in this establishment (see what I did there?) Although this pub can get very busy on a Friday and Saturday night, or when there is a match taking place in the Millennium Stadium. If that's the case, I would recommend going to the other branch just around the corner next to St. John's Church. Either way. Food good. Drink good. Good.

However, the other one felt the need to chime in, "Learn to read directions!". Sorry? As Americans, we are still trying to learn your way of doing things, but sometimes we make mistakes and did not see that food service had ended. How hard would it be to just be nice and say something like, "yes, we are finished serving food for the night, but I could recommend somewhere close that is still open." Instead, he chose to be be rude and unhelpful! Your menu looked like it had some delicious options, but for today, I'm not into second chances as there are too many other choices for other opportunities to spend our money! We'll give somewhere else the chance to choose to be nice. Lezzet Turkish Restaurant, a short distance away was very accommodating and delicious. We left our server a £10 tip.

It's very much a friday night pub in my opinion, but fortunatly this doesn't necessarily mean a scrum at the bar, with a slightly more civilised crowd than you'll get at similar sized places on waterfont, for instance. The music may well be pounding though, and plenty of people will be there with the intention of having more than a couple of drinks. There's the Prince of Wales over the road if you want somewhere that isn't quite so loud, so I don't think I should complain about it. Plus, the Bishops is mercifully cheap compared to some of the places close by.

We are new to the area and popped into this pub (Sunday afternoon) to check out what the local pubs had to offer. From the outside, this pub looks decent. As you walk through the door, "The Summerhouse" is pretty dingy with 90's decor and not many smiley faces. I ordered a pint of Bass, my partner order a cider. The barman seemed friendly. In our search for light, we opted to walk upstairs where we were greeted by an enormous empty restaurant. When we asked the waitress if we could sit in the light and airy restaurant, she refused us. They must have been expecting a party of 150 people for roast dinners.... Back downstairs, we sat in the lounge. I supped my pint, it didn't taste great. Dirty lines perhaps? I like my beer, I didn't like this pint of Bass. Although me and my partner enjoy each others company, we couldn't finish our drinks quick enough. Leaving us feeling that "The Summerhouse" was more "Outhouse". We won't be back.

For…read moresome reason we decided to walk from Cardiff to Pontypridd (of all the places) along the Taff Trail. By the time we finally made it to Ponty (NB: Do not trust the Taff Trail signs, we walked for about an hour, but were always three quarters of a mile away for it, like Ponty had its own peculiar set of rules in the space-time continuum) we were gagging for a pint. A quick tour of the town centre revealed little in the way of boozers apart from one terrifying bar that looked like a dole office from 1973. Resigned we headed for the train station. Lo and behold, right by our escape route back to the city was The Tumble Inn and for once I was grateful to espy a Wetherspoon's. Like a safe, identikit harbour, we were glad to see the silent tellies, the microwaved food, the lurid interior. A couple of hard earned pints of perry later, we were on the train suitably refreshed. While that money was usually spent on the weekly Curry Club menu on a Thursday afternoon, there was one occasion in particular that made this pub a personal favourite of mine while I lived in the area. During a routine rummage through the kitchen junk drawer, my housemate stumbled across a large booklet of Whetherspoon's coupons that expired that same day. It was then decided by the gods above that we would make the most of such a heaven-sent gift by spending the rest of our day working our way through the booklet from cover-to-cover. Two steak dinners, a curry feast, two desserts, a bottle of wine, and dozens of brands of beer later, and our work was done. We had beaten the Coupon King at his own game and stuck two imaginary, drunken fingers up to Mr Whetherspoon, as we basked in our gluttonous, money-saving glory...despite having spent a lot more money than we would have had we not found the vouchers in the first place. Well, it seemed like a good idea at the time... After hours of excessive "money-saving", we finally made our triumphant exit. Despite being named the Tumble Inn, after a day of furious discounting, the only option left was to tumble out. Good pub, good times, great memories.

Some of the other reviews talked about noise at night but let's face it You're over a pub but the rooms are really nice they're very clean they're super comfortable there's a fireplace in the rooms in the atmosphere is very familial and everybody here seems to have a good attitude and is having a good time. The food is great The price of the room and everything was super reasonable. We spent some time talking with some of the folks here Mark behind the bar served this breakfast and Sally came down and chatted with us for a while and it was just not the type of experience that you'd find at a chain hotel it was very real very comfortable and one that we'd certainly want to return to.

Being a Bath Ales managed pub, it sort of reflects the qualities of similar Bath Ale run pubs, insofar as it has good character and is in a good location. Unlike some of the others (in Bristol anyway) it's actually quite large and being quite close to the Memorial Ground it attracts a large group of lager swilling Gas Heads on a Saturday afternoon. The food they serve is of the brasserie or ponced up British variety, but is fairly inexpensive for what you get (which is good). The other thing of note is the large garden which plays host to an annual music festival there and live music on Sunday evenings. With not a juke box, fruit machine or pool table in sight, it's an odd mix at times but a pretty decent boozer in my book.

Cancelled my reservation after 15 months of waiting, and the waiting list for a Sunday roast is now…read moreseveral years - so long that there are no available Sunday reservations. They didn't bother to contact me to explain or offer another day, I just got an automated email from their booking system. Emails to the landlord take several days to get a response and he has also not been reachable by phone. The only response from the landlord has been to say that they've decided not to be open Sunday January 1st 2023, but if they're going to take reservations so far ahead they should honour them, and simply block out days on the system for future bookings that they won't be open for. Their website says they are uniquely inhospitable. I agree with that assessment.
