I've visited Dragons (as it is affectionately called between friends and family local to the area) frequently and over several years. Its a regular place to go for birthdays if you're a bit low on £, and usually you get what you pay for. Dragons consists of two parts, a buffet and a serviced area. The buffet is much more preferable in my experience- more people go for it, as its cheaper, contains more items and you can go up as many times as you like for a plate refill! The serviced area is more expensive (well, it would be!) but lacks the greasiness that the buffet area is infamously renowned for. So, its positive points are: its cheap, its cheerful, popular for teenage parties- and I've even seen a few hen nights start there. Overall, a positive social gathering place. Even if the food does suck. However, the negatives are that the food is either overpriced or waaay too greasy (or both); the labels on food can sometimes leave you slightly puzzled, and there have been occasions where they've placed a food platter under the wrong label; the wait service often appears highly stressed; if you spend more than an hour there the door is mentioned bluntly and repetitively until you start moving for it; and finally every time I've gone, I've done some mental addition, and somehow (even counting in a more than generous tip, when were were mostly left unattended during our time there) every party I've been to has been charged more than we originally thought, leading to awkward scrabbling for spare change in everyones pockets and resentful muttering about either shoddy mental math skills or ridiculous pricing (usually the latter). It could be said that, however much we dislike the service, the unpleasant way we're treated like nothing more than a process for getting into our wallets and purses rather than at least pretending that we're valued customers- there is a humbling arrogance that comes with the place, and its a popular venue for mostly skint late-teenagers to swipe a bit of money off their parents and be a bit socially independent of said parents. Also, they do lunch buffets for those who just can keep away from destroying their figures, & early evening is great for stuffing fat and junk into kids- and, well, its probably better than ol' Mackie D's. but so is radioactive waste, IMO. read more

I have had totally different experiences to the other reviewer about this Chinese buffet. It costs around £10 per person for an all you can eat Chinese buffet - prices depend on when you visit. There is plenty to choose from with around 15 starters and 15 main courses along with dessert, if you go in the evening there is duck and panckes. I have never found a fault with any of the food that I have had here - always hot and never lacking in something that I wanted. The drinks here are expensive around £2.50 for a coke but there has never been an issue with just having a jug of water. I do agree that the waiters and managers of the restaurant aren't great. The manager just stands by the buffet glaring at everyone as you eat your meal - however he soon stopped when I glared back for just as long! Plates are cleared from the table regularly. You can tell it's a good value good tasting place because you will very rarely get a table if you just turn up at 8pm - booking is advised!! read more

I have visited this restaruant numerous times, most recently for a coursework project. I found this restaurant very pleasant, coming out the better restaurant in the comparison i had to complete. It is cheaper than the others in town, and the manager was very helpful, even offering my catering class a lesson in chinese cooking. I would stongly recommend this restaurant, as i didn't find the food inediable, and the waiters/esses very polite. The drinks were very reasonable, only £1.50 for a coke. The atmosphere is very pleasant and enjoable, and the restaurant is very clean. The buffet is very well labled, and there is a wide choice for vegetarians. read more

hello, i have somehow ended up in this establishment 6 times over the last 5 years or however long it has been opened. it serves Chinese food in a buffet style and it has been the same for the last 5 years too. The food is generally inedible by my standards but I think if you are not too concerned about the quality and you want to eat as much as you can then this is the place to go. The food is produced very cheaply and as a result quality is compromised. It is also very far away from quality Chinese food as most of the stuff is really greasy and bad for you and tastes very bland. The only desert available is jelly and ice cream and it has been like this for ages and I think the lunch buffet is about 8 or 9 pounds per person and I think the dinner is £13/14. the drinks are normal restaurant prices- £3.50 for a beer, around £4 for a glass of wine. I have only been to this place on my own accord on two occasions. The first was for my 17th birthday with a group of mates and family when it first opened and I did not know what it was like (and my mum recommended it) and the second time was when my bf said he had never tried Chinese food before and that was the only place I knew of where he could try a variety. The other times was because I got invited to it by friends and family and I felt pressured to go, however I would not go again but I think it depends on what sort of person you are and what you are looking for in a meal out i.e. quality or quantity. read more
