The Dixie Classic Farmer's Market is good but it is not my favorite. A few times I have had a hard…read moretime finding produce from North Carolina at this market a lot from Virginia, which is still regional but I would love to see more NC spots there. The flowers are beautiful, like most farmer's market they are the wild flowers. Unfortunately, wild flowers don't really hold up super well once you get home. I did think it was neat this year that they did the $20 challenge where Nikki Miller-Ka cooks a meal for four, for $20 with all ingredients that were purchased at the Farmer's Market. I do really like Grace Meadow Farm, that is usually at this market that sells chorizo and ground beef. It is some good stuff! The butter at Mill River Farm is also awesome. The parking lot is pretty tight and can be a bit of a pain getting in and finding a spot on Saturday morning.

I'm surprised no one has rated this market on Yelp yet. Maybe it's because they're too afraid that…read moreonce this little gem gets exposed, the increased demand will cause farmers to raise their prices. Well, I think the farmers deserve to raise their prices because they're ridiculously low as it is. I've only been in Winston Salem for a year, but this Farmer's Market can even beat Costco on price and quality. Come early for the best selection of everything from green onions to heirloom tomatoes, to organic peppers. Bring flowers home to your wife/girlfriend, and buy a rug from the nice veteran on the eastern wall. There are salsa (the food, not the dance) competitions, local honey farmers, and a good amount of (free) parking. The best part about this place is how kind the farmers are. They'll always give you more than you pay for, and are generous on their samples.

There's never a bad time for a stroll through the Triad Farmers Market,…read morebut the heat of summer is going to treat you to a bevy of vegetables like you would not believe. You'll find the freshest picked everything, from cucumbers to tomatoes and all points between. The market is fully covered, providing some much needed shade, and there are some permanent vendors that have an indoor facility such as an ice cream parlor, candy and fudge, general store, etc. There are full bathroom facilities on site, and even a restaurant called the Moose Cafe at the back which served southern favorites. Of course, what is offered depends on the season. You'll find a bounty of selections starting in late spring, through the summer, and into the fall. In the winter, produce starts to become more sparse, but there is no shortage of places to buy your Christmas tree if you celebrate with one of those. Best advice is to bring cash, but many vendors can take a card these days. You may get charged a little extra for using plastic in some spots though, and to help with these folks margins, cash is preferable.

This is the place to get fresh bouquets! Be sure to go inside the barn as well. Lots of vendors inside you don't want to miss.
