I had some time during my vacation, so I decided to walk around the campus of Drake University. It also helps that my hotel is basically across the street too. I haven't been to college since graduating 20 years ago and visiting college campuses isn't usually what I normally do on vacation, but I had some time on Thursday and Friday in late October 2022, so I ended up walking and reminiscing of my own college days rushing to class after class and people watching while playing Pokémon Go. The college campus in downtown Des Moines is rather small, comparative to other larger campuses nationwide. I spent about 2 hours wandering around campus and it was rather enjoyable, especially when people were bundled up because it was cold enough for those on campus to do so. The experience reminded me that if I wanted to go back for another advanced degree, I have the means to get it, just need financial and time commitment lol With that said, my time here at my own self directed Drake University campus tour was educational and yet powerful too. I enjoyed the different architectural differences that college buildings do have comparably to the community surrounding the campus perimeter. It's interesting that it is different. I ended up walking the inside areas including the admissions building and then circling outside the perimeter to access other areas of the campus. It was a nice walk and glad to have gotten it in both days while I was there. It was cool to see student leaders giving campus tours to incoming freshmen when I was there. Reminds me of what campus life was and still is in the general sense of college living. The overall experience here at Drake University - Des Moines, IA was casual, quiet, and definitely a nice time to unwind and decompress during my vacation in the Midwest. I particularly enjoyed the quietness of the campus, even though it was during the work week and before 10am on both days I cruised through the campus. It was nice just to be there and not have campus security question me. Lol I guess as long as you're not suspicious or doing anything wrong, you should be okay. For the most part though, the time spent here really helped me for my mental and physical health, especially when life and other things can be at a crossroads. Coming to a college campus helps to rekindle that lost experience that I needed to unwind and reconnect my former youth. The campus of Drake University is well maintained by the good folks in the maintenance department of the university. It's a place you'd want to go to, if you're looking for a place of higher learning in the Midwest and want to live in Des Moines, IA. The school has much to offer prospective students and teachers who wish to pursue their futures here. The campus is beautiful and lucky to have been here and visited. If you are in the area and want something to do, consider coming to the Drake University campus to take a look. Definitely a place I don't mind coming back, if future travels permit me to do so. The main campus of Drake University is located at 2507 University Avenue here in Des Moines, IA. As a mid sized learning institution in the Midwest USA, they take pride in accepting those who want to further their academic futures and to pursue academic degrees offered here at Drake University. As with many colleges and universities, they impose tuition per term and offer financial assistance for those who qualify. Not sure if they accept credit card payments for tuition, but never hurts to ask ahead of time if you're interested in getting ahead and enrolling. The ambiance during my fall walk on campus was a delightful one. Really enjoyed my experience here and a good flashback to my college days, even though I didn't go to school here at Drake University. It helps keep the youth alive in all of us and reminds us that life is a journey and school / learning is a big part of it. If you're in the area, consider the campus tour. The neighborhood buildings have metal bars on the windows. The Drake neighborhood is known for not being the safest and property values are lower here. You can buy a relatively cheap house here though. The school is okay. No hot water in the public restroom sinks as all of the hot water handles have been removed. They are doing some construction at the school that may be a new stadium or something like that. read more

A really beautiful campus! I have gotten the opportunity to speak here, play music here, talk at conferences and just walk around! It's truly a gem of a inter city campus with beautiful green spaces, and a nice mix of classic and modern buildings. I have never attended any classes here, but the facilities I have seen are great! My dad went to school here for a semester in 1971, I think he dug it! Though he probably wouldn't recognize most of the campus, as it had grown and modernized over the years! The sports facilities are fantastic and I like this school way better then I like DRAKE the musician, but then again I haven't ever been schooled by either! read more

As an alumnus, I can safely say, Drake University is pretty good. Mind you that I am of the College of Arts and Sciences, so I can't comment too much about the schools of business, pharmacy, journalism, etc., though my friends in those programs seemed pretty satisfied. Excellent professors, generally, a wide variety of classes, a handful of worthy fraternities (hint: none of them have a Sigma or Phi in their name), and decent campus life make Drake a pretty solid choice--truly, the Columbia University of Iowa. read more

Good school, but if you are in the school of education, be careful to stay on top of your paperwork and keep track of your courses yourself - especially if you are double majoring, because it is easy to loose track of requirements and such. Also, take any science class taught by Summerville. He is awesome, helpful, and imitates animals (including dinosaurs and planaria) read more

I never attended class here, but I have walked on campus multiple times and been in multiple buildings. The campus very nice and it definitely feels like a college campus when you're walking around. It's unfortunate that you step into a shader neighborhood once you're a block anywhere off campus. I had actually been in a classroom once for a work related training session, it was very nice. I haven't gone to school here, but my brother attended the Law School. He thought it was a great Law Program. I have visited the campus many times and it is beautiful and clean. Nicely located in Des Moines . Pretty close to downtown. The area surrounding the school has great places to eat and drink. read more

Great school with a lot of history. While pricey, Drake is unique in that it's faculty actually care about students. Individual attention is given to students through mentoring programs, internships, and smaller class sizes. This place has also greatly improved its facilities and continues to do so. If you're looking for alternatives, I would also apply to Simpson - both good schools. The Drake Relays are one event that every drake student knows well, in addition to their classic blue bulldog mascot and famous law library. read more

Drake is a fantastic school for students with passion to learn and grow! The Drake culture is unlike any other college campus. The people at Drake are one of a kind. I'd basically describe them as cool, super nice, well.. nerds. The Drake culture has a strong academic focus, but believe me, kids know how to have fun. Visit campus during the Drake Relays and you will see for yourself! I have met some of the greatest people at Drake and it has helped shape who I am. Drake is very good at putting on a caring face when you are applying, but when you actually attend the school the mask drops and they show you their real side, especially the Arts and Sciences department. If you think that you are going to have time to work to pay for housing and pass their science classes then you are sadly mistaken, since the majority of their students get their tuition paid for on a silver-platter. This is a beautiful historic University my youngest daughter is going to attend. Freshman move in is Wednesday 8/20/14. It's going to be an exciting day...This school should be a perfect fit. On tours they show a room overlooking beautiful landscaped vistas. The reality is that you may also be in a basement room with the only window being a grate covered window well with no light. J term is not available to freshman, a fact they fail to tell you. The food is still rotton. read more
