Don't be put off by its rather dated shop exterior. Inside is a plethora of beds/mattresses/pillows…read moreand helpful salespeople! Their prices are fairly good from what we've priced online. We were allowed to wander freely and noone batted an eyelid at me laying on all the mattresses to my heart's content. We were offered help and when we said we were just browsing, they let us be. But when we needed help it was plentiful, relaxed and unassuming. Chatted to Gordon for ages about mattresses! They were at no stage pushy... we decided on a bed but wanted to check out more mattresses, Gordon encouraged us to have a look around and just to call them when we wanted the bed delivered. Think we'll end up going back and getting a mattress from them. Would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a bed/mattress.

After some not inconsiderable searching on the internets, I'd managed to narrow down the bed I wanted to 1 of 5 frames offered by a combination of Ikea, Bensons and John Lewis. I'm pretty lazy though, so wasn't sure I could be bothered dragging my butt out to see them all. Thankfully, enter the Bensons for Beds summer sale! One of the frames I liked was being offered for not much more than half price, so I decided to check it out first as if I liked it the process would be suddenly much easier..... There are quite a few Bensons locations around Glasgow of various shapes and sizes but I decided to head to the Hillington branch as it was one of the bigger branches and relatively convenient to get to from home. Sharing it's space with a Reid's furniture store, it gives plenty to look at for those furniture shopping. As I'd already picked the bed frame I wanted, as well as a divan and mattress combo for the spare room, the only decision to be made on the trip was a mattress to go with the bed frame. I was there with my Maw, so obviously we dove straight in to trying them out. Probably, shouldn't have started with the £2000 memory foam, top of the line option. Sadly out of my budget but immediately ruined me for all other mattresses. We picked ourselves up though and with the help of the sales person tried a whole bunch of mattresses until I found the right one for the right price. I was impressed with how committed he was to helping me find one I liked best, very patient! He was also super helpful when organising the purchase and delivery, the one downside being that their finance system was down, so I had to return another day to get that sorted. It was worth it though as they offer 0% interest with flexible terms, and it was relatively easy to get sorted. Overall a great buying experience with a good choice of options available. In the end, thanks to the sale, I saved about 30% in total, so definitely worth watching for one if you're looking to purchase a bed. Can't wait for them to be delivered now!

Archers Sleepcentre have some pretty comfy beds, single beds, doubles, bunks, Silent Nights, all…read moresorts. So if you're looking for a bed then you'll be spoilt for choice in here. I remember I used to work for a mystery shopper company and I once got asked to go here to do my nosey. When I first read the job description I thought that would be an awesome day out, lying on all the different beds to see what one was comfiest, then I read a bit further. My job was to go in, ask someone whether or not latex is a kind of memory foam. WHAT? Who asks that? I can just imagine some old married couple heading to Archers for a new bed... Bill: Oh that one looks nice, she's a beauty. Margaret: Oh, I'm not sure... Do you think latex is a kind of memory foam? I mean, for the love of all things bed related, why would that ever cross your mind? I did contemplate doing that job for the giggles, as the thought of marching purposefully up to some unsuspecting bed sales person to ask that still makes me chuckle but I ended up realising that for the £8 fee it was probably more hassle than it was worse and I wouldn't have been able to keep a straight face whilst asking that question, totally giving the game away. All in all, a huge shop, friendly staff and competitive prices.
A lesser known bed shop this is a rare wee, well big, find…read more I stumbled across it a few years ago now, when my ex was moving out. In the split up politics I'd agreed to keep the hellish bed he'd MADE. Yes. And it gets worse. It was not a bed that sits on the ground. Oh no, this was a bed that was roughly seven feet high and sat a whole foot below the ceiling (I'm not going to answer your question). Kinda like a massive bunk bed but underneath it there was piles of his junk. Anyway, enough about the tree house. It's now gone. Thank God. But, in the break up proceeding, I'd agreed to keep the bed (well, there was no way for him to take it was there?) and he was taking the duvet, pillows etc. So off we endued a strained car journey to this place for the purchase of some pillows, duvet etc. It's a massive shop filled with a whole host of beds (as Eleanor has mentioned) and a good side selection of bed accessories including some sets of bed spreads and the like. The staff are pleasant, helpful and extremely easy to locate - something that is underrated. Meanwhile, the prices are reasonable and their products range from the cheap (and not so nice) to the luxurious. So there's something for everyone and every price range. Give it a go.

But there's no denying that the IKEA experience has transformed the way we equip our homes. Yet it is an experience shopping here, and you either love it or hate it. If you have no idea what you're getting into or what you're looking for, go upstairs to the showroom section and browse around until you have achieved the necessary zombie-like trance state to descend into the main store. Then wander mindlessly through the maze of stuff until you (hopefully) find what you were looking for. If it's larger items you want, you then have to locate them in the warehouse section, which resembles that scene at the end of 'Raiders of the Lost Ark' with its endless rows of high shelves. Then finally, the tills, after which you will be more inclined to enter the cafe area for some sustenance after your endurance trial. Savvy shoppers like myself pre-shop on the website, which handily will print out a list of your items and tell you where they are located, including the exact shelf number in the warehouse for the bulky items. Then, avoiding the upper floor, head straight for the small door behind the main staircase and go straight into the store. Pay careful attention to the layout of the 'short-cut' doors that connect the different areas; these will help you to avoid trolling round the whole maze.

I visited on Sunday and while it can be a nightmare on the weekend, thankfully this store is big enough that you might not notice. The line for food was ridiculous though, and it was at least a 10 minute wait. They've also changed the meatball portion sizing so it's small, medium large whereas I'm convinced you used to order by number of meatballs. You also can't have both chips AND mash, you need to get a separate portion of chips. No one stands between me and double carbs, ok?! Apart from these small grizzles, I generally really like going to Ikea and will always overspend and bring home things I don't need. This time it was a fish shaped ice cube tray. Do I need it? probably not. But it was only 90p! Hot tip: if you're holding a gallery exhibition, this is a great place to get the frames. The frames come in boxes of 10 and you can take the whole box for easy transportation.
