Have seen several shows here over the years. The production quality and talent of the performers is…read moreas good or better than anything you'll find even in the large cities such as TO or NYC. The shows do seem geared towards the quite elderly. If you're 60 years old, you'll be one of the youngest in the audiences. My only complaint is the theatre is very hot. There's very little air circulating. In honour of the recent Johnny Cash show, I've made up a new verse for the Cash song "I've Been Everywhere". Enjoy :) Please turn on the air man, I don't think it's fair man, I'm burning in my chair man, My socks are in despair man

The Playhouse in Gananoque is summer-stock theatre with two twists. One being locale, and the…read moreother the seasonal program. As such, it stands out as one of the best regional summer theatres in all of Ontario. Firstly, the theatre is found in Gananoque proper right on the banks of the St. Lawrence River, giving its lobby one of the best views of any theatre around. Dock space is also available, allowing you to book a slip to pull up your boat and spend the night after an evening of theatre, making it one of the most unique experiences that you'll have. The program every year has the typical run of theatre favourites that you'd expect from a regional theatre of this kind. That said, the program directors at the playhouse ensure that there is a healthy mix of summer favourites and new Canadian works. This has allowed them to bring in plays like the Wingfield Farm series which through its production in theatres of this kind, has brought mutual success to both the playwright and the theatre. The playhouse also provides a more challenging theatre piece in the early fall, allowing theatre students from Kingston and the surrounding areas the opportunity to see a more demanding piece in a truly distinctive venue. The theatre itself is rustic and smallish, seating over 300 in a close proximity so that everyone is close to the stage, close to the action, and experiencing a unique evening of theatre.

I love this cinema. When I was a kid, we had a movie theatre in Gananoque that was found inside…read morethe Bell Tower Mall. The theatre did tremendously well. That was until it decided to run "E.T." for a year and a half and went out of business. So, off to Kingston we'd go to see movies. Bit of a hike, but you do what you have to do. One visit back to Gananoque for Christmas or something, we noticed the Boulevard Cinema had opened near the Gananoque waterfront. This movie theatre offers almost-first-run movies, that being films that have been out for maybe a week or two. As such, you have to pay the exorbitant fee of $4.00 per admission. If this is too pricey for you, you can always go on Tuesdays where it's $2.00 to get in. Happy now? Initially the sound was crap in this theatre. The theatres themselves were small and the speakers that were used did nothing to fill the space. So the management set to making the sound work and as a reward for people putting up with shoddy sound, open their doors for free. These guys know how to run local business. Yes the theatres are small, but as such are intimate. And with the newly renovated sound system, the theatre provides astounding value for money. Seriously, four bucks? You can't rent a movie for that. One of the best things about the theatre is Paul the owner, whose weekly movie review column appears in the Gananoque Reporter (http://www.yelp.ca/biz/1000-islands-publishers-ltd-gananoque) as well as on the Boulevard Cinema website itself (http://www.thechequesinthemail.com). And you thought you were opinionated...
