This place is located about 5 mins walk from my inlaws and I must have been here twice in 10 years which I guess is saying something. Once I went about 5 years ago and it wasn't nice at all, very heavy and a real over-fatty taste/smell to everything. So when my MIL suggested we get fish and chips for Good Friday, I was sceptical but thought why not give it another chance - and I did. Stuzzi is a too-good-to-be-true trifecta of wonderful food, excellent service, and reasonable pricing. The menu is small sharing plates, as many places are these days. With a group of four we got to have quite a lot of that menu. The tagliatelle in ox cheek ragu was a marvel of simplicity. The arancini completely changed my mind about a dish I've always considered an overrated way for a restaurant to dispose of extra risotto. The wine and cheese were superb, chosen for us by the charming wait staff. The digestif menu features a small but punchy selection of grappas -- never a given at British Italian restaurants and always appreciated by me.

They also have a nice selection of Italian deli bits and bobs for you to take away with you. We found some of the charcuterie and cheese impossible to resist. The idea is to order a few tapas sized portions of various dishes and then mix and match with your eating partners - and it works a treat. Not quite full? Order something else - the kitchen is efficient and we have never waited too long. Now that we are semi-regulars the staff have got to know us to some extent. I am very much into my wine and I take some care when ordering a bottle any place I go. At Stuzzi when they ask me what I want to drink I now just ask them to 'bring me something interesting' and that is exactly what they do. They have never let me down. Every time the wine that arrives at the table is well selected - delicious and not unreasonably priced. This is a restaurant that wants people to enjoy the wines on offer so the prices are sensible - in so many places these days the price of a decent bottle is ridiculous, but here you will find the opposite. If you want fine dining and silver service that's not what this place is about. It's too laid back for that and it's now what they set out to do. Instead you are served excellent food in an unhurried environment, and that vibe always seems to be found at every table. Fun, tasty, easy.

What lets it down is the slightly aloof attitude of the staff who never seem terribly happy to serve you and the idea of banter with these people is almost unheard of. Produce is almost begrudgingly sold. The quality of the produce is without question - they keep live lobsters here so you know how fresh they are. It's worth a visit as they sell almost everything (no frozen baby squid though! Shame as these are readily available in Leeds market!). Could do much better, and not a patch on most of the stalls selling fish in Leeds market - see my other reviews for that.

Just be careful if you're hungry though - a 35 min wait for our food when half busy... not sure if they have more staff usually but did seem to be a bit excessive when it comes to putting some bread, meat and cheese on a board. One of my favourite bars to visit in Harrogate…read more We were fortunate enough to be staying in the travelodge opposite Major Tom's on our first visit to Harrogate, as we could have possibly walked past it if we hadn't have been, due to the fact it sits above a selection of vintage shops. But if you follow the stairs up to this cafe/ bar, it transforms into a retro-feeling, huge bar. With old fashioned sofas, 70's lamps and pacman arcade games galore, it really has a cosy feeling in such a big venue. Great for groups, but cuddled up on a sofa, my boyfriend and I felt snug as a bug playing dominos and connect four. Although I lost both games, it couldn't stop me from loving this place. To try really hard to find any faults, I just wished it had a wider selection of ciders- then it would be perfection! We unfortunately didn't have time to sample their pizzas, but they also looked (and smelled) amazing. A definite must if you're visiting Harrogate!

We also ordered a Contadino sandwich: a warm sandwich with smoked chicken, olives, marinated vegetables, including artichoke, all dressed with basil mayonnaise, a wonderfully tasty sandwich, just right. I would have liked it with an accompanying salad though, it looked a bit sparse on the plate. Only a minor point though, the cappuccino cream filled pastry we had as a treat to finish the meal, was lovely.
