The historic courthouse sits in the middle of the square and reminds me of a castle in a fairy tale. It is composed of red brick with white brick accents and looks like it belongs in the movie It's A Wonderful Life. The Limburger Rebellion was actually fought on the steps of the courthouse which apparently blazed the trail towards notoriety in the cheese industry. I kid you not. There is a vibrant shopping area surrounding the square with a variety of local businesses. There are a number of artsy statues surrounding the square that are just plain fun. There is plenty of open space with plenty of room to hold community events such as concerts, farmers' markets, chili cookoffs and other festivals. We asked several times if everything was correct . 3 days later I received a call from the same guy saying we had to fill out an ADDITIONAL form that was never mentioned to us when we made the appointment or when we were in the office. I said fine email it to me and I'll email it back. He said I have to come back to the courthouse to do it in person . Beyond unprofessional and unacceptable.

There were a lot of kids on the tour and the tour guide did a great job of explaining things for them. He also made a lot of jokes and was very friendly. The marble throughout the building is really pretty and cool to see. It's a lot of stairs but they do also have elevators. The observation deck at the top is definitely worth the climb also and offers a really pretty view of Madison.

While I do not spend much time in State Capital buildings, I would like to spend more time here, as…read morethe Wisconsin State Capital building is absolutely beautiful, a great space to learn about history, marvel at the intricate details of the stonework, look over Madison from the mezzanine level or take in the phenomenal artwork on the rotunda ceilings! The capital building is located in the heart of the city and is a perfect backdrop of any day, no matter the season. While great from the exterior, wandering around inside is way more fun. It is open to the public and free to roam, however you can get guided tours that get you access to the more restricted areas, including the floors. We wandered around for well over an hour and could have spent more time if we had more access. The mezzanine level was the best, as it allowed you to see lots of history as you made the circle indoors, then let you get every angle of Madison and the lake from the outdoor area. Parking is all public and street, so plan accordingly, but if you are staying anywhere in or near downtown, then you have easy access with a quick walk. Overall, the building is gorgeous and the staff were helpful from entry to exit. Lots to see, whether politics or history are your things, it is definitely worth a visit!

Got subpoenaed to a court hearing for an accident we came upon. Husband had to take off work. We…read moregot checked in and sat outside the courtroom but the case ended up getting rescheduled. Everyone was very friendly and Explained throughly what was going on. When coming into the courthouse you are checked thru like the airport. I had a metal thermos with water in it and was allowed to take it because it only had water. So note that drinks are not allowed unless they are water only. We were prepared with a kindle to keep us occupied for the short amount of time we were there. Next time we go back will also pack some snacks.
