It is a tribute to Dubuque County's rich baseball history. I have heard rumors they will add more components and businesses to the structure. If you're a fan of the movie, you need to see some great memorabilia that Brown has from his unique experience. Dyersville's downtown is just a block south, and The Field of Dreams is just four miles away, so The Baseball Hall of Dreams should be on your itinerary when you're in the area. Brown and his staff have fun collectibles throughout the facility, and they rotate interesting photos that display the passion that baseball has brought people for two centuries. They also have occasional events at the venue, and their store has some truly fun options. There's a small admission, but it's worth it. If you're in town with a group, a softball or baseball team, it's a learning experience for youngsters and it's kid friendly.

But in this case, a few of us were "meeting in the middle" from various cities to have a little golf outing. We chose Bunker Hill Golf Course for our event. We had heard from friends that yeah, we'll have fun there. Upon checking in, we were greeted by very friendly staff. The facilities were impressive inside, including a nice little pro shop, a big dining area, and a well-equipped bar with good food choices. It was a great start to a great day. Lingering around teebox #1, we got a chance to have a friendly chat with some local retirees that golf there daily - it was a great representation of what you'll find at Bunker Hill - good people, relaxed environment. The course is tucked into the center of Dubuque, but you'd never know it while you're golfing. The course has plenty of elevation changes - up/down as well as side-to-side. This is the foundation for Bunker Hill's character - and you know it if you've played it. It's not the longest course, which would make you think "oh, it must be easy". Slow down there. What this course lacks in length, it makes up for with tilted fairways and fast, undulating greens. Putting is a big challenge here (was the pin placement deemed "hardest ever" for us? Perhaps!). The fairways, and general hole layout, can affect you as well. You can be staring down a straight, "simple" hole, but the tilted fairway can funnel your ball to an unexpected location. Thus, "course management" is key. You may want to lay up - or go for it - based on your game and the hole's layout. I know that now... The fall colors were fantastic - a bonus for us this time of year. With ample trees, however, fall golf make it more interesting finding your ball. While that's true for any course, it's more pronounced at Bunker Hill. Like I said, the fairways can funnel your ball around - you may think it's in one area, but it may be 30+ yards away from where you're looking. Throw in fall leaves, and you may spend more time hunting for your ball than actually golfing! (or so it felt like it). We're planning to do a meet-up in Dubuque for further golf outings. Bunker Hill will certainly be on the menu. Thanks to the staff for a fun day!

The weather was amazing so we enjoyed a nice stroll viewing all of the interesting art along the way and stopping to watch the various birds who were enjoying the river as well. A beautiful and well maintained place.

Good for meeting people and being friendly, but you can also keep your distance and contemplate by yourself. It's also the best walking path from the Grand River Conference Center, which has a big back door and deck onto the Riverwalk, to the National Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium. I found myself wondering, what did those French explorers think when they ran into this monstrous waterway? What indigenous technology from their guides helped them across? Turns out the newest part of the museum has these answers. I do wish Dubuque put this much consideration for pedestrian traffic into the rest of the downtown area. There aren't many crosswalks, and not enough stop signs for walking from downtown towards the river. Just look both ways before crossing the street and don't text and walk.

In my opinion this course is better than Trump National in Palos Verdes, California and Pelican Hills. There is not one negative comment from me. Greens were a little difficult, but I like the challenge, fairways are in excellent condition. Not a yellow spot or wet spot on the course. This course is a must play and needs to be on your bucket list to play. Staff is friendly and very accommodating. Members; there should be no complaints.
