I have been going to Due for over 15 years. It used to be a great local restaurant but, like many restaurants in NYC that are now in demand because of their outdoor space, they could care less about their pre-Covid steady customers. The customer service is terrible. Portions are smaller, they rush you, and they put parties of three adults at a two- top even when they have plenty of open tables. They could care less about your overall dining experience. The manager and owner are arrogant and have terrible attitudes. Never again. read more

This lovely northern Italian does everything right. A nice room, excellent service (even when they're busy), a good wine selection by the glass (including an excellent shiraz) and an extensive menu with lots of specials. All the expected Italian favorites can be found alongside some more interesting fare. Both the beef carpaccio salad with plenty of shaved parmeseano reggiano and the eggplant croquette salad with a generous amount of fresh goat cheese were great starts to the meal. The veal piccata, veal Milanese and the verdi gnocchi with asparagus were all perfectly made. We did find their version of a molten chocolate cake to be slightly too fudgy. But, although we wouldn't normally dream of passing up a chocolate dessert, the fresh berries in zabaglione served in a crispy shell were absolutely sublime. The restaurant is busy so consider dining early. And keep in mind that they don't accept credit cards. But otherwise, relax over a glass of wine, dig into some great Italian food and enjoy! read more

Nothing beats when the proprietor makes you feel most welcome by having his staff set up a table just for you when you decided last minute on an impromptu outdoor dinner by yourself to de-stress! I have walked past Due a million times since I live around the corner but only frequented a few times. I can actually see the sidewalk structure from my balcony and after tonight's great dining experience, I will make this my kitchen away from home! One of the best Northern Italian restaurants anywhere, delicious food and cocktails, and wonderful service! Wow. I was at a happy hour nearby and asked a friend who used to live on the Upper East Side for a dinner recommendation. This was the one she gave and the only one we needed. I understand there may be a lot of favorites in this neighborhood but if you haven't tried Due, add it to your list. We called at 8:30pm and they were able to seat our group of four at 9. On our way out the door, two more friends asked to join our group. Called ahead and Due was able to accommodate us. They somehow managed to squeeze the six of us into a small round table which made it extremely easy to enjoy conversation with everyone at the table without having to shout. I didn't mind the closeness at all. The manager was extremely personable and enjoyed bantering with the two sommeliers in our party--and in doing so, he made a slam dunk of a wine recommendation. As for the food--we ordered the baked artichoke, a special salad with beets, and a special app with fresh búfala mozzarella (not the standard one on the menu), as well as the calamari fritti. All were a slam dunk. Among our diners, we had a couple of kinds of veal and they passed muster. I had the fusilli con radicchio con pancetta and although it seemed like a large quantity of very al dente pasta, OMG, I could not stop eating it. The smoky pancetta and cheese were such a nice accompaniment to the fusilli. My friend had the pollo abruzzese and it was excellent. In short, we were all in agreement that it was a slam dunk of a meal; the perfect accompaniment to a boisterous and jovial evening. I would absolutely go back. read more

DUE was delish. As you may or may not know - I live in Brooklyn and I would never be reviewing these "UES" restaurants if my boyfriend didn't live in the nabe. Nevertheless, I'm not complaining. I've rarely had a bad meal on the UES so I'm ready to keep trying. Due is from the same owners of Uva - which I'm a big fan of. My boyfriend has been coming here since he was a kid so I knew it would be good. It looks pretty fancy when you first walk in - especially compared to the loud club like music Uva pumps out in their restaurant. But, it's not too fancy schmancy. We both shared the "Carpaccio Di Manzo Con Insalate E Parmigiano" (aka - beef carpaccio) appetizer which was so delicious. I'm a fan of anything carpaccio and I LOVE rare beef & parmigano together - heaven. For my entree I ordered an appetizer, the Polpettine Di Melanzane (eggplant croquettes over mixed field greens with goat cheese) - and what are eggplant croquettes you might ask (I did!) - well it's eggplant made it into a moussey texture, encased in breadcrumbs, possibly mixed with mashed potatoes & deep fried - it looks like a falaffel but tastes like an eggplant breaded mashed potato - and all this mixed with a delicious salad. It's a perfect summer meal - filling but light and a cheap alternative to the pricier pastas which range from $15 - $25 For dessert we had the berry zabaglione. I was not familiar with zabaglione before this - but i am now a FAN! Again for those of you not familiar with zabaglione - it is an Italian dessert made with egg yolks, sugar & sweet liquor. Best. Italian. Ever. My best foodie friend took me here - claiming its the best Italian in the city. She is SUPER Italian, born and bred.. and man was she right. We shared this salad - it was endive, hearts of palm, artichoke, mushrooms, drizzled with a lemon vinaigrette. SO good yet SO simple. Unbelievable. Strolled around the Met for a while, until close on Friday. It was a nice night, and don't know anyone that knows the UES, so finding a place could go one of two ways. 1) Magically find something with a good menu and quick seating without reservations, eat, drink, be merry... 2) Walk around, in the rain, indecisively, getting hungrier, crankier, fight, tell each other to go fuck their mothers, go home, drink heavily and eat pizza, get fat, lonely, die alone. So, shock and a half, Due is kind of awesome. Great menu, the wine list was really extensive, and the seating, for a Friday night without reservations, was less than 15 minutes, despite a packed house. The host was nice, the waiter was good, it was pretty sweet. So, I never get into this, but my mouth was happy so here's what we ate (via Menupages): Gnocchi Verdi Aurora-- homemade spinach and potato dumplings with tomato, cream, asparagus (yum); Rollatine Montanara-- homemade pasta stuffed with spinach, porcini, ricotta and parmigiano cheese (still drooling over this); plus a good Chilean wine. This is an amazingly authentic Italian Restaurant. The service is attentive and complementary. There is a coat check women who greets you and takes your coats right at the door. The waiters greet you with the days specials, that are often the best thing on the menu. The wine list is pretty solid, as well as their selection at the bar. The menu was amazing, with a wide range of Pasta and vegetable dishes available. Each one sounds better then the next. I enjoyed the breaded chicken cutlets soaked in white whine sauce with broccoli and my date got the pasta with Italian sausage. Both dishes were perfectly cooked ans served elegantly. The dessert menu was Italian as it gets. But sadly there was little room after dinner. The decor was lively and quaint. By far one of the best places Ive been in a very long time. read more

We had a very nice evening at this Upper East Side Italian restaurant. The space is dark and cozy. The tables are close together and there is a definite geriatric skew to the clientele. We were seated right next to a quartet of older folks who weren't using their inside voices. We were able to get past it. The wine list has a lot of moderately priced selections. My wife tipped over her water glass and got the table wet. With a display of chivalrous aplomb, the waitstaff swapped out the whole table for another one- a first for us! Bread was very good. We shared a couple of very good salads. Entrees were all above average. I enjoyed my veal parmigiana and my wife and daughters really liked their various pasta dishes. The espresso caramel was OK. Where to begin, where to begin. We chose to go to Due based on a recommendation by a friend. It. Did. Not. Disappoint. Walking into the restaurant, we were promptly greeted by the Owner, Ernesto. He made sure we were personally greeted and seated and set us up promptly with a glass of wine. Making suggestions to us, he was spot on with bringing a lovely rose wine for my wife and a perfect red for myself. After our server took our order, a different server brought us bread and butter, a different server refilled our waters, and a different server checked on us. I don't look at this as a bad thing, I look at it is a well {olive} oiled machine. Our first course we ordered was the beef carpaccio. Amazing. The chilled slices of beef paired with parmigiano, arugula, and fresh squeezed lemon was an unmatched harmony. My wife enjoyed a bowl of the lentil soup. Coming from a guy who doesn't like lentil soup, I definitely stole a few (or dozen) bites. As our entrees neared, we definitely worried that we wouldn't have room, but to no avail, we found room for the best part of the meal. My wife had the linguini with clam sauce and I chose the fusilli with radicchio and bacon. My dish paired extremely well with my wine and hers the same. I honestly couldn't get the food from the dish, to the fork, to my mouth fast enough. The cheese and smokey flavors from the bacon created a dish that can't soon be forgotten. My wife's linguini and clams had such a fresh, clean taste that she was disappointed that she didn't have room for the last few bites of a very generous portion. For dessert we shared a creme brulee. It was everything we hoped: that wonderful shell on top and a creamy, vanilla body. Her Earl Grey tea was rivaled by none while my cappuccino left nothing to be desired. Overall, would we go back to Due? The question should be: how soon can we get back to Due? Unfortunately we are from out of town and it will be a while until we get back. But please believe that we will be back every chance we get to see Ernesto and his staff. They definitely make you feel like you are part of his Italian family! read more

The restaurant is classic Italian and has been around for years. It is consistent, good and doesn't disappoint. The clientele does tend to be a bit older probably, because you can actually, hear the person at the table. The service is excellent and not rushed. We shared two appetizers and an entree. Unlike many other restaurants in NYC, they happily, served them as courses and brought two plates. The restaurant graciously allowed us to sit at a table for four rather than a two-top so that we could sit next to each other. The service was attentive without being intrusive. Everything that I have ever eaten here has been wonderful. The Mozzarella Di Bufala was so milky that it melted in my mouth. If you desire some very well prepared and fresh ( as in ingredients) standard favorites you are in the right place. I was very pleasantly surprised. Tried this place out for dinner on a Monday and it was surprisingly pretty crowded at 7:15pm. It seems to cater more towards an older crowd, but that didn't bother us. They gave us bread while we waited, though the crust was super hard (and I think we got a smaller loaf than the other tables...was this because we were younger customers?). I ordered the fettucine bolognese and my friend got the conchiglie. Both were pretty good, though I didn't like the sausage used in my friend's as much. The fettucine came with big chunks of meat and was pretty good. I could have probably finished in one meal but would have been stuffed so their portions are decent sizes. The waitstaff was good about keeping our water glasses filled, but towards the end I felt a bit rushed, like they were pushing us out (even though we saw an open table). read more

The best word to describe Due is "authentic". From the staff, to the casual elegant decor, to the food, it is a truly Italian experience. (I say this with some sense of authority, since I had dinner there with my mom, whose parents immigrated from Italy, and my friend Barbara, who recently moved to the States from Italy.) Ernesto, an elegantly dressed, gracious gentleman with one of those wonderful Italian accents, quickly found us a table despite our being late for our reservation on a busy Fri night. We all enjoyed the Insalata Bianca with endive, artichokes, mushrooms and hearts of palm. My mom and I both loved our pastas and Barbara also loved her fish special (unfortunately, I can't remember exactly what any of us had). I can't report on the dessert, though, as my two dates decided they didn't have room! Perhaps the second word for Due is "consistent." While it's not the best Italian restaurant I've ever eaten at, everything (food, service, decor) was consistently good. Stopped by here about 7pm on a mid-March Saturday evening looking for a courteous calm quiet great quality Upper East Side Italian restaurant. Like something out of a movie. Charming waiter, Saucer, who couldn't believe his boss seated us without a reservation, but never showed it! Fabulous seafood and salads and bread. Can't speak to pasta because we didn't try it. The clientele seemed very comfortable, happy to be there. The decor is beautiful, wood paneled, lovely art and lighting. Owner was most solicitous. This is the best self-imposed relaxation on a sunny afternoon. Due's owner has gone to great trouble to provide an extensive wine list and a welcoming atmosphere. Enjoyed the cozy atmosphere but they don't have a wine list, so there was no way to know the prices without explicity asking the waiter how much each one is. A few types of wine (e.g., merlot, cabernet sauvignon, etc.) were noted by the waiter to our table. It was a bit of a shock to see $27 + tax + tip for a glass of wine. We would not have spent that much had we known the prices. We deduct one star for the lack of prices for the wines. Other wines we had were about $12. Randomly stopped in for a light snack and drink and could not have been more pleasantly surprised. Always wanted to try this place and so glad I did. Sat outside, so can't comment on interiors, but outside tables were pleasant and they even accommodated our stroller. This is my second visit to Due and I am an absolute fan of this place. Nice Neighborhood restaurant, not big or noisy, with outdoor seating and open front windows during the summer. I highly recommend this place for its food (which is outstanding), service (clean and professional), and the prices. I tried their OssoBuco Special entree, which was a very large portion with a huge bone and the meat was so tender, it could be cut with a butter knife. The place has a traditional Rustic italian decor and sharp looking staff, who aim to please I might add. If at all it matters to anyone, the crowd ranges with a higher population of elderly customers, but with the weather change and the outdoor seating, much more young faces. Decent pasta but nothing extraordinary. Menu was pretty standard, with nothing that stood out to me as particularly exciting or unique. Bread was cold and hard. Yes, I judge a restaurant by its bread, how hard is it to stick it in the oven for a few seconds?? The ambiance is cute but be fore-warned that the clientele is on the more *ahem* mature side. The place also gets surprisingly crowded so you may want to come by earlier for dinner. We felt a little bit rushed out as well, so service was a tad sub-par. Bartender seemed put out that we showed up toward the end of the night--he visibly grimaced when we walked in. We were not the only customers in the restaurant, but when it did clear out, someone turned the music off in the restaurant, leaving us to eat and drink in silence. The owner was nice but the 40 or so minutes we spent there were uncomfortable from the moment we arrived. Due is real neighborhood treasure. We have had many satisfying visits to this lovely atmospheric spot on 3rd Avenue. The ambiance is about as cozy and pleasantly Upper-East-Side-New York as you can get. The food and service are excellent and have remained consistently so for the many years we have been going there. Some of my favorites dishes include: roasted chicken under a brick; ricotta cavatelli with peas; burrata with tomatoes and basil; spaghetti and meat balls; and any fish preparation. First, due does take credit cards, but only master card and visa. The menu and atleast one review here says they don't, but the server heard us discussing it and ran over to tell us differently. We paid with a visa debit card. I had the ensalata Francesca to start and it was just what I wanted. Light but with substance. Plenty of arugula with some other greens, diced beets, corn, tomatoes, shaved aged ricotta. I had a pasta for my entree because we had already had a heavy snack down the street before dinner. I ordered something from the regular menu that started with rolitine, and then an m word I don't remember. It was a pasta roll filled w ricotta, porcini mushrooms, spinach, and another tasty cheese with a creamy pink sauce. This dish was delicious, but if I had been starving, it would not have been enough. I was full though. My husband had the seafood special, which was shrimp and clams in a white wine and garlic sauce with zucchini, basil, and oyster mushrooms. He said it was amazing and ate every bit of it. The restaurant does get 5 starts for ambience which is what drew us in. Very inviting and pretty decor. Pretty much down hill from there. The owner (or restaurant manager) was lack of smiles when we came in - but I now expect that in NYC more often than not. I ordered a dirty martini which was alright. The bread was decent but not the freshest - very chewy. My appetizer - the endive salad with artichokes, hearts of palms and mushrooms - sounded really good, but the actual salad when it came to the table was quite perplexing. A pile of white cut up things on a white plate. The whole dish was white and unbelievably unappealing. I couldn't believe a chef would ever send out such a homely dish. The taste was okay - borderline not okay. It was NOT worth the $10 appetizer price tag. I ate it. I didn't say anything, and the waiter never asked, so there it is. My husband's bolonese pasta dish was much much better. If you do venture here, I advise you to stick with pasta dishes. On to our our main courses. They were terrible. I ordered the special which sounded really good and interesting - chicken, sun dried tomatoes, smoked mozzarella, lentils and zucchini in white wine. My husband ordered a sausage and chicken dish with artichokes. Both sounded delicious. Once again, the dishes came out like slop on a plate. No arrangement, no garnishing, just hunks of meat on a plate. That is fine as along as the flavor is good. Neither of these dishes made any sense in our mouths. Discombobulated flavors and textures - just not good. Both of us left 75% on our plates and did not ask for a to go box - which we always ask for if there are left overs. We really just wanted to move on from this experience. The waiter never showed his face again after giving us our meals, never asked if everything was okay, and sheepishly swept away our plates without looking us in the eye. He knew. A strong person would have never paid for two bad meals and would have insisted on the meal being comp'ed. But we are not strong people. We hate the idea of confrontation or looking mean. What can I say - we're mid westerners. We paid the $100. Then we left to go get ice cream which we knew would make everything ok again. read more

For absolutely delicious food and sincere smiling service you can't beat Due. They make the most basic Italian food taste special, and their specials always intrigue and satisfy. I have been eating there since the 1980s and have found a solid consistency in what they deliver and their cheerfulness with customers.
