Ever made a decision to avoid a small business based the reviews other people have found useful? I did too. A friend had told me about Duffy's being under new ownership, and I decided to stop by for a visit since the store is right next to the Speedway Gas and the Anderson Post Office. Service was friendly, and I was welcomed as I entered the store, so I started questioning some of the negative reviews I had read. When I heard that the place was under new management, I figured the reviews may have been accurate at one point, but apparently some changes have been made. I have only visited Duffy's a few times here and there to get items for my spouse or my neighbors, but JT seems to remember me as if I am his favorite customer! Awhile ago, I needed help paying rent, and times got hard. A family member sent me about $120.00 in the form of a postal money order. Can you believe that the post office would not, and cannot cash a postal money order? I had a hard time finding any place willing to cash that thing, and was about to head to Redding to spend 18% of it just to cash it when my friend told me to ask if Duffy's would cash it. While cashing checks or money orders is not the mainstream of Duffy's Liquors, I was surprised to find that JT, the new owner was willing to cash the money order "as a friend!!!" He did not require a purchase! He did not "charge" anything for doing this either!! I am dumbfounded at the negative reviews I read about this place and question the authenticity of the individuals who posted the reviews. I am not implying that this business can or will cash money orders or checks, but that the friendly service, helpful owner, and decent prices should have some recognition in a positive light! The bottom line is this: read the reviews, and then go see for yourself what this place is about. It's right in the middle of Anderson, and close to cheap gas! I don't think you will disagree that you cannot find friendlier service any place else, and the prices are better than 99% of the places you most likely have been. Personally, I would rather pay more to shop at Duffy's Liquors just to say high to a friendly face, than to go anywhere else. And to the reviewer who authored looking for a good micro brew ~ If you tell the owner what you are looking for and what you would like to see, bet it will be on a shelf for you when the next order arrives! That's how this place seems to work! To the one who wrote a review about the smell ~ a polite request to the owner would resolve that as well. However, I am willing to visit Duffy's just if for no other reason, than to see intense burning in a refrigerated unit on top of a stack of beer cases! I would also love to see a place [any place] charge my card more money than the authorized amount I sign the receipt for! LOL, That person needs to drink less, or get another bank and quit blaming an awesome store owner for fault's not belonging to Duffy's. read more

I frequent Duffy's Liquor and think they have pretty good prices when compared to other convenience stores, like 7-11, or Bob's Market which are also pretty good businesses for what they are. The problem I have had, and still do have with Duffy's is the "high and mighty" attitude of the owner(s). Because a 25oz can of King Cobra is only a dollar, I purchase them often and enjoy that beer for some reason. Just don't expect friendly service if you are not paying with paper money. They HATE change, even if it is all quarters! They HATE exact change too, because it means putting "change" in the cash register. They would rather GIVE you change. They feel they can enforce this because they are dealing with people that collect cans all day just to get "one more beer." The thing is, money is money, a dollar is a dollar, and respectful customer's are still what a business should hang on. read more

I started going here about 6 months ago and continue to go there. The prices are great and they are always looking to bring new products in to facilitate peoples needs. Very friendly place and I often spend a few moments just talking with them. You wont find prices like his at your local gas station or even Walmart, its definitely worth stopping in and seeing what deals they have. read more
