I was a pilot for over 20 years and have been an aviation buff my entire life, and must say that the Duluth Air Show was a terrific experience for me. No doubt, I lucked into what had to be one of the most beautiful and perfect days of the year on the Saturday that I attended. Wow, what a great combination of aerial displays ranging from skydivers, to fly-bys and aerobatics by historically and commercially significant aircraft, to wild aerobatics by civilian teams and individual performers, and to top it off, the amazing USAF Thunderbirds flight demonstration. What awesome sights and sounds. There were a large number of static displays as well - military and civil aircraft, both vintage and state of the art. I appreciated the fact that the static display aircraft were NOT all roped off - you could walk right up to most of the planes. Some of them were set up to walk through, which is a great experience, especially for kids. Some of the businesses at the airport and aviation schools had nice displays as well. I've been to a lot of airshows in my life, though it's been a long time since I last attended one, and I had a really enjoyable time. I always learn new things, see so many great sights, and meet so many interesting people. Plenty of options for food and drink. Lots of vendors selling airshow and aviation memorabilia and clothing. Plenty of restrooms. One warning - NO place to sit except the ground, unless you bring your own chair or upgrade to the VIP section. It's a long day on your feet if you don't plan for this. I thought the event was very well organized and run. I paid for the upgraded parking, which was worth every penny - I got there a little early and left a little early, and it was clean in and clean out with very little delay. Plenty of signs and directions, starting with the air show web site. Any time you have to accommodate 50,000 people at an event like this at a site this small, there are going to be some delays and inconveniences, but as said, it was well run, the volunteers were awesome, the crowd was chill and had a great attitude. This was the most poorly organized event this size I've ever been to. Thank goodness we got out of the parking line and parked on the street a mile away from the airport and decided to hoof it. We met lots of people who spent 2+ hours in the car only to find out all the planes were grounded by the FAA waiting for a higher cloud ceiling. Once we did park- there were NO signs pointing us in the right direction! We finally met up with another family who had said they walked 1/4mile only to find out you could only enter through the one side. The only descent thing was the announcer that kept us engaged. I can't blame the event coordinators for the weather but WOW what a MESS parking and signage were. read more

I apologize as the actual flyers & all involved with the show deserve 5stars but the set up needs work I feel duped & cheated on $60.reserved seats !: Duluth air show 2019 We drove 2hrs. To attend 1st time ever & for the most part enjoyed the airshow as it was awesome getting to see the planes/jets etc... & talk to many of the persons who operate them BUT DON'T BUY $60. RESERVED SEATS UNLESS YOU GET THE VERY FRONT ROW!! It's a ripoff! We bought 2-$60. Seats & we were told EXPRESSLY BY THE STAFF TO STAY SEATED! & that they'd be telling people to sit down. Well that isn't what happened. First the seats aren't stairstepped. So when people stand they block your vision I'm only 5'4" & couldn't see any ground stuff or 1/2 of airshow especially blue angels EVERYONE stood through ALL of they're maneuvers some even with kids on their shoulcers & even adults stood on chairs blocking everyone else from seeing! RIDICULOUS! You'd think they'd rent bleachers or set up the $60. Seats as ONLY the front ones. TRULY DISAPPOINTING that I missed almost all blue angels stuff due to the setup @ Duluth air show 2019 read more
