I had the steamed pork dumpling and they try to pack it at much as they can. Their ramen is a large bowl of really tasty broth. And their big boy dumplings are super big after 1-2 I was already full as advertised. The wait wasn't very long, the staff was really nice, and I can't wait to go again! Found this place randomly while staying in the LA area. The weather was a bit chilly so we were on the hunt for some noodle soup and soup dumplings. This was the only place I could find in the area that offered soup dumpling so we came to give it a try. Out of the three items we ordered, we enjoyed the soup dumplings the most. The noodle soups were ok. Service was pretty fast and we were seated right away. Keep in mind that this restaurant is pretty small so it isn't convenient for large groups. OMG when you crave dumplings and get a good mix of yummy, fluffy, doughy dumplings with juicy pork - does it get any better than that? Seriously does it?! I don't think so. Dumpling house is located in the middle of a strip mall across the street from famous California Donuts. There was absolutely zero parking and people were honking at each other up the wazoo to get into the tiny 6 car parking lot but you know what? It was totally worth it. We ordered a bunch of shit and it was all amazing. Especially the ramen! This ramen isn't like your traditional ramen, the noodles were actually very soft but combined with the broth it was exactly what I had been craving. I also tried the chicken hand made noodles, which was alright. It was pretty much the same as the noodles you can get in the galleria food court, and they have easier parking there. Super fun, friendly, family-owned dumpling place in Koreatown!! Lots of good press around Dumpling House, and it is definitely living up to all the priase. My personal favorites include the bulgogi dumplings and the kimchi dumplings, but the soup dumplings are also a popular items. You can order one of every item on the menu to find out yourself though :) Dumpling House is great for all occasions: weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, baby showers, group dinners. It is a place I could definitely go every week for the rest of my life. Also, uncommon for dumpling houses, there are vegetarian and vegan options for dumplings. And while many times at other restaurants the vegetarian/vegan options are very un-impressive, I can legitimately say that the vegetarian dumplings at Dumpling House are noteworthy in their own right. When the cravings come there's no stopping them, and in the midst of an insatiable craving for kimchi fried rice, I spent a Friday going to three, yes, three different kimchi fried rice spots in KTown: Bulgogi Hut The Kimbap Dumpling House In conclusion, all were good, but there was a clear favorite in The Kimbap. Star 1: How were the service and atmosphere? You've got three very different vibes between these three spots ranging from full service sit down at Bulgogi Hut to mid tier comfort at The Kimbap and finally a quick and easy take out concept at Dumpling House. All well executed, and I think The Kimbap was my favorite. Bulgogi Hut: Star (1) The Kimbap: Star (1) Dumpling House: Star (1) Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? $10 for a smaller portion at Bulgogi Hut, $11.00 for a medium portion at The Kimbap, and $12.00 for a large portion at Dumpling House. All reasonable. I did get some Kimbap at The Kimbap and some kimchi dumplings at Dumpling House as well - all were reasonably priced. Bulgogi Hut: Star (2) The Kimbap: Star (2) Dumpling House: Star (2) Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? As I alluded to previously, all three of these were good, but there were some stand outs. Bulgogi Hut dished up a very good, baseline offering of kimchi fried rice. A fresh egg, some seaweed, all good. Kimbap's offering was a step above with some bulgogi in the mix, and Dumpling House had what I might call a slightly sub par offering on account of an old egg and some lacking flavor across the board. My friend and I ordered two dishes, the King Veg Dumplings and the fried veg dumplings. Our dishes came with a side of chili soy sauce and pickled radishes. King Veg Dumplings (steamed): These are like bao. The bready outside is like the chinese montao bao and the inside has tofu, glass noodles, cabbage and woodear mushrooms. Although the dumplings/bao weren't that flavorful, they were very very filling and satisfying. I had to use a ton of soy chili sauce. I don't know if I would order these again unless I really wanted something homey. Veg Dumplings (fried): The fried outside of the dumplings gave them so much flavor. YUM! I really liked these because of the fried outside. The filling was similar to the king veg dumpling filling but without the tofu. Overall, I'm not really that impressed. The place itself was plain inside, I thought it would be more of a restaurant but it feels like more of a take-out place. When we went for lunch, it was pretty empty except for the two Korean moms who worked there. We ordered the pan fried shrimp dumplings and the steamed pork and kimchi dumplings. Each dish is around $10 but comes with eight pieces that are stuffed with filling. The kimchi one was unique and flavorful. Yum! A small, mom and pops place in Koreatown specializing in mandu (aka Korean Dumplings). I came at around 11 AM on Saturday and my friend and I were the only ones dining in with a couple people ordering take out. There was only one ahjumma working the front and back and she was so nice and welcoming (like entering a friend's house). Though it's a bit too small to bring a large group of people, I think bringing a few friends (3-5) to test out multiple dishes is a good play. It doesn't get too crowded during weekdays or lunch time on weekends, but I don't recommend coming here with a large group of people.
