History

Established in 1946.

Born in Newcastle in 1887 his real name was Elliot Wang Duncan, but he was known as Stanley by all that new him. Lack of work in his home town forced him to move south to Hull to a job with LNER where he worked on the railways. His driving passion was to be on the foreshore at Patrington in his famous Black Hut in pursuit of his quarry. In the early days shooters shot anything that flew including rare migrants, which were sold to taxidermists for cash reward. The principal was, if you didn't shoot it the next man would. A man ahead of his time, realised that some form of organizing body was needed to represent the wildfowlers and to introduce an element of conservation of wildlife along the foreshore. On the 7th April 1907 at an open meeting in Hull WAGBI (The Wildfowlers Association of Great Britain and Ireland ) was founded, the committee consisted of mostly Duncans friends.
