Fast forward 5 years and the cart paths have received no repairs. My wife and I stopped in after work to get in as many holes as we could before sunset. It was around 5:30 and the old guy in the pro shop acted like he didn't want us to play and quoted me the price for 18 holes, which was 33% higher than the prices they have listed on their website. I reluctantly agreed to the higher amount, but just before I handed him the cash, I asked what time the carts had to be in. He said 7:00. I asked why so early and he said this was to allow the cart guy to get home timely. Needless to say, you cannot possibly play 18 holes in 90 minutes yet he tried to charge me this. I asked about a 9 hole rate and he quoted me the price they have posted on their website for 18 holes. Because I really wanted to play some golf for the first time this year, I forked over the cash. After the first hole, my wife had wrenched her back due to the condition of the cart path. We pull up to the second tee box and there is a huge tree down in the fairway along with 3 pieces of heavy machinery. It was at this point that I thought about returning to the pro shop and asking for a refund, but I really didn't want to deal with the rudeness again. Since no one was actually working on the tree, we hit our tee shots over this massive pile of debris. We continued on. On hole 3, we noticed the high school kid picking up the range balls WITH A SHAG BAG. I remembered someone telling me recently that they close the range around 5:00 so that it would allow time to pick up the balls. This means 1) you can't use the range after work and 2) they do not have proper equipment to pickup the range balls. We continued the bumpy ride, but had to slow considerably to avoid getting bounced out of the cart or damaging our clubs. I ended up hitting the ball decent enough to shoot 38 on the front, yet still hated the fact that I had played this course. I could shoot a higher score elsewhere and enjoy it much better than having to endure what we went through. My wife's back was hurting too much for her to finish. The course is in HORRIBLE shape. Every green has huge bare dead spots. In my opinion, the 18 hole rate should be no more than $10 due to the condition of the course. Even at that rate, I would prefer to play elsewhere. BTW, there was one bright note. I got the cart turned in at 7:05 and started walking to my car. Just as I was almost to my car, the high school kid was calling out to me. I turned around and he was bringing me my sunglasses that I had left in the cart. HE was the best part of this experience!

Had a wonderful evening at the Cavvietta Ranch Rodeo event in Elm City. The evening began a little…read morewet with a shower, but this was a rain or shine event. You could bring your own lawn chairs and umbrellas or sit on the bleachers to watch the events. They were also prepared with a variety of food and western wear vendors. The show was engaging! There were a few kiddie events from the Busting Muttons, Hokey Pokey (well the grown ups liked this too!) and others... They also had timed competitions with cowboys wrestling bulls, Barrel riding, relay events and on. However, the star of the show was the tenacious herding dog who hustled the bulls back to the pen! I also understand that Cavvietta hosts weddings on this beautiful ranch... had a great time!

She directed me to look in the back , where there are practicing artists, many were in theur studios. The North Carolina Baseball Museum is located at Fleming Stadium in Wilson, NC. Admission is $3 for…read moreadults and $1 for children and seniors. When you arrive, there are marked parking spots and I saw the large baseball with the NC Baseball Museum sign so just entered the gate and made my way in that direction. It is on the left side of the field. The museum is staffed by volunteers. I was welcomed when I arrived and given an overview of the museum. Then before I left, I got my questions answered and was show the new museum piece from Josh Hamilton. He even looked up all that played on the Mets for me as I was curious. So I appreciated that a lot. The museum was much larger than I expected as there are two large rooms. I didn't give myself enough time to view the museum as I arrived near closing time. I had been planning to visit the following day but the museum page and online sites had differing hours so I decided the website was likely the better source. So that just means a return trip is in order especially knowing what a gem this museum is. The first room is of those from North Carolina that played in the major leagues and the other room has college baseball and others that played in the MLB. I loved the history here and seeing the artifacts and reading about the players. I highly recommend this museum if you are a baseball fan.

The Vollis Simpson Whirligig Park has opened the Vollis Simpson Whirligig Museum since my last…read morevisit. The museum is across from the park on Goldsboro St and admission is free. The museum and gift shop are together in the suite so it isn't a large museum but there is a lot to look at and read as well as a tv to watch the magic at work. The museum is where you can learn more about Vollis Simpson and his work. The large hands are impressive to see featured as he made beautiful works of art with scrap metal. He was a machinist by trade and artist in retirement. In WWII he built a windmill to power a washing machine to clean the clothing of soldiers. He took ordinary objects and made something amazing with it. His mechanical creations that move in the wind started out on his farm then later moved to the park when he could no longer take care of them properly. Smaller whilrligigs can be seen up close in the front window but remember not to touch them although it is tempting. After visiting the museum, be sure to go in the park to see the fifty foot creations. There are several restaurants to choose from within walking distance of the museum too. I highly recommend visiting so that you can learn more about this remarkable man.

The garden is a little deceiving from the entrance as it is much bigger than it appears at 11 acres. But was also so different than I expected. I started in the STEM Garden. (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) There are carnivorous plants; solar power panels; a windmill; hydroponic plants; and a math area to calculate the number of plants. There are explanations of each area and I was very impressed and excited to learn something new. The garden is divided into areas to showcase the diverse plants like hosta; daylilies; and herbs. One area is for children but you can wander and taken in the all the different plants. I read that there were over 200 different plants. There is a beehive but that is fenced and has signage.

At first, I wasn't impressed because there was nothing planted or the plants looked dead. No flowers were in bloom and bushes looked unkept. As we kept walking we came to another area, the gem. This must be there main garden; there was a cute little slide, a swing, a sound around, a gazebo, a stream, a bridge, and a sand play pit.
