A clean, tidy, well maintained retail park which is small with a good range of shops including Lidl, Marks & Spencer Simply Food, Heatons, Iceland, Argos, Sports Direct, Poundland and Peacocks. A Costa Coffee has recently opened too. There's free car parking but Spires is extremely popular so it can sometimes be difficult to get a parking space. I would advise visiting outside of peak times so you're best to go either early morning or late evening. I really like Spires and always find everything I need in it. Not a shopping centre I would travel a large distance from elsewhere to visit but for locals and tourists already in Armagh it's excellent.

There's also a costa coffee, if you need to take a break during your shopping. The only significant problem with this location is parking. The car park is too small and the haphazard parking of some drivers only compounds this problem.

There are a few claw machines that clearly scam you, but I suppose alot of store have that and it's not really their brand, but I still don't like it. This is a great place to take your children or younger ones to because it is so interactive for them and has tons of stores they would enjoy! 9/10 definitely recommend.

You'll not go hungry either as there are quite a few cafes including Starbucks and Costa. A McDonalds is also onsite and although not a place I choose to visit often, I am partial to a cooling McFlurry after a long day shopping. Be warned though, Rushmere can be hectic and busy, so get there very, very early if you want to avoid the crowds.

Some people are wise and if they need Christmas decorations will buy them after Christmas when…read moresales are on. This was my reason for visiting Alexanders of Markethill today. Not for myself I might add, as I don't even bother putting up a Christmas tree, however a friend wanted to stock up for next year. Alexanders of Markethill is a large, beautiful household items store over two floors with an upstairs cafe. Throughout the year it sells a range of dinnerware, cookware, home accessories and offers an interior design service. Coming up to Christmas more than half the shop is taken over with Christmas stock including trees, decorations and artisan foods. It's fantastic to walk around and the Christmas items are stunning - some of the best I've seen. However, even with a sale on, I still think it quite expensive. For example my friend purchased a Christmas wreath and a decorative thingymajiggy for across the top of her fireplace - even in the sale this totalled over £110.00! I would never spend such money on a couple of Christmas decorations no matter how beautiful. Anyhow, if you've money to burn you'll love it. My favourite items were a couple of reindeer made out of what looked like papier-mâché newspaper cuttings - to be honest I'd be inclined to have a go at making them myself rather than buy them. Therefore for me, a trip to Alexanders would be more of an inspirational field trip, however for others it's a great place to pick up some fabulous, festive items. Unfortunately I didn't try the cafe but it was busy which I take as a good sign, so I will definitely return to try the cafe and have another browse. I might even be tempted to purchase some wine glasses or pots and pans on my next visit...

Now certainly Alexanders is an impressive store, in fact there are 2 stores in Markethill, one selling furniture and the other household items which includes the cafe on the 1st floor, in all my visits I could honestly say I have never found a bargain, the stock is overpriced, but yet I still visit the store, as I prefer to shop with local traders where possible, but my pocketbook is not bottomless so value for money always wins out! I stand by my original review, the cafe is expensive and the few times I have eaten in it were not great. Alexanders need to drop their prices a bit and buy bigger tea pots.

Just a five minute drive from the city centre, Boucher Road has quite a few shops in it, most of which are located in Boucher Crescent Retail Park or Shane Retail Park (see my review on Shane retail park). There are men and women's clothing shops (River Island, Next, Burton, the Jeanery...), a sports shop, HMV, Starbuck's, Boots... the list goes on. There's a hell of a lot of space dedicated to parking here, but it can still be very difficult to get a space on a Saturday or Sunday. It's not a mall type place where you can get lost in, it's one of those places where the shops are all lined up in a row and you come out of one shop and into the next one - good for methodical shoppers, or those who don't have a lot of time. The downside is that the traffic on the Boucher Road can be crazy between 4 and 6p.m. But, if you're a visitor and you're out for a day's shopping, get yourself a 'day ticket' (see my Translink review) and you can take a trip up here before/after shopping in the city centre.
