As my family and I were visiting my sister, we had heard that Durham Central Park was hosting a Reggae Event. We decided to go to get a taste of the Caribbean in the South. We arrived and there was a live DJ playing Dancehall and Reggae, which had a great selection of music. There were tents and food trucks around the perimeter which had long lines and for good reason. There was good food and great merchants which my sister bought a shirt and I got a bucket hat with the Panamanian flag on it. My sister told me that there were a couple events being hosted in the coming weeks. I would definitely return when I go visit my sister. read more

Downtown Durham is cool and Durham Central Park is a big reason why. However, Durham Central Park extends well beyond that. It's really a neighborhood, encompassing some of the coolest spots in the city. 9/11/21: I've been here a few time for different food truck rodeos that they've had, and I've always enjoyed myself. The parking can be bad, but I usually luck up and find a space not very far away. There's police presence & I've never had a bad experience. Today there was a Sugar Rush rodeo with vendors and sweet food trucks. I was really shocked to see how limited the food trucks were. There wasn't much to choose from. I was kind of irritated that I drove all the way from Wake Forest for about 3 trucks and a few other selections. I ended up getting a funnel cake, caramel apple, lemonade, & a snow cone. Again, it wasn't worth the drive. It would've been great if they had the names of everyone who would be there on Facebook like they usually do for their regular food truck rodeos, but it wasn't available. Now, I see why. Was there yesterday for the start of the PLAYlist Concert Series last night...John Brown and his Band got things rocking as the first one for this year and the crowd was definitely into it...Plenty of great Food Trucks and of course as it was a warm day Water was supplied as well..WNCU was broadcasting from there and until the rain interrupted it, there were folks getting their groove on during the Afterparty....Will definitely be making more trips to this great venue and my friend Teli will have his group Magic Of African Rhythm up next on June 7th.... read more

Such a fun park. It's always something happening here throughout the year. Nice playground, lots of restaurants in the area and a cool skating park. This park has something to offer for everyone! Lots of events are held here from time to time. Durham Central Park always has fun events. I have been here a few times for different festivals such as a food truck rodeo and a NC soul food festival. The last time I went for the soul festival there were multiple food trucks and vendors, live bands, and a DJ. A gym was also there doing workouts. Parking can be a little difficult in the area but I was able to find street parking when I visited. Bring your lawn chairs when you come out. read more

I can't wait until things are back and running. Durham Central Park is the heart beat of the Durham community. This place has cleaned up so much within the past 10-years. There is now a skate park and children park. The farmer's market on Saturday's and concerts/events on the weekends, throughout the year is a must attend! It brings out all of the locals. This review is about the events as well as the space itself. We come every week for the farmers market, and have occasionally enjoyed the free concerts during the summer. They also host food truck rodeos, craft fairs, and private events. There is a large green space in the middle and an L-shaped roof over open-air paved walking space. The park is surrounded by some landscaped areas, including edible plants and herbs. Across the street is a kids area with a playground and creek. It's starting to get a little boxed in with all the tall building going up around it, but I hope they will always keep the park as a cool public space. read more

This review is for the Garden of Eatin' located next to the Farmers Market/in the Durham Central Park area (Yelp wouldn't give them their own page...) I love Durham's little community garden at Durham Central Park and have stopped by many a summers day to pick up fresh herbs or just stroll through the tiny garden and admire butterflies or enjoy some outdoor air. With everything from rosemary to a persimmon tree, SEEDS' Garden of Eatin' is another wonderful representation of what Durham is and what we do for our community. SEEDS (South Eastern Efforts Developing Sustainable Spaces, Inc) maintains the garden, but it's definitely most plentiful in early spring (late March-May). The garden is a free-pick, public edible garden with a focus is organic edibles; fruit trees and shrubs, herbs, medicinals and veggies. So next time you're on an adventure in downtown Durham or stop by Durham Central Park during the warmer months, stop by and you might be able to harvest some rosemary, basil or thyme. The also have a fig tree (summer seasonal) and the peach tree offers some mighty tasty bites as well! And, if you're looking to get involved in the community garden, that's available as well, you just have to contact Hilary at SEEDS. Hilary also welcomes volunteer drop-ins! Drop by to weed, prune, and mulch the garden on Wednesday evenings between 3:30-6:30pm year-round to volunteer, hang out, taste, share ideas about gardening, and garden the free-pick Garden of Eatin' together. This is a rare interactive public space, so many public spaces today have limited hours, or "don't pick/don't walk here" signs. We recently went here on a Sunday for the great food truck Rodeo. With music by live performers, and arts and crafts as well, it was a fun time. I do wish they would provide some kind of seating for people, and parking was a bit of a problem. We will most certainly attend again. read more

DCP, probably won't be confused with NYCP anytime soon, but I think this area makes a nice addition to the Bull City. It is definitely ideal for food truck rodeos, which was my reason for being there on a recent Sunday. The space is pretty open and ideal for music events, and they had one this Sunday along with the glorious food trucks. It would be super cool if DCP presented a regular free concert series during the warmer months. I don't think Simon and Garfunkel are doing much these days, and there is even a bridge "over troubled water" in the park for added symbolism when they do that song as an encore! read more

DCP is still growing into itself, but it's become home to some of the coolest things in downtown Durham -- the farmer's market and the food truck rodeos. And when I'm not there for the food (okay, that never really happens), it's fun to hang out at the skate park and watch kids be brazen on skateboards and bikes. (Remember what it was like to fall down -- repeatedly -- and get back up again? And not be afraid to fall again!). I think the area needs more seating; though a couple of benches have been added, and there is the new Leaf stage/seating thing... which I still haven't seen used as a stage yet. Of course, the expanse of lawn is fine for plopping down with food truck fare. Hope to see DCP hosting more movies and concerts come summertime! read more

This is a nice little park with a shelter cover for the farmer's market or Food Truck Rodeo. There is a large parking lot conveniently across the the street. If you are coming here for a prolonged event, be sure to bring a blanket or chairs or sit on the grass. There is also more green space and a path across the street for the kids to run around and play, which is always golden. All in all, a great family venue. The venue can be swarmed and then appear to be a little small so be prepared for a crowd and being intimately close with others. Sometimes I just wish a deodorant company would be at one of these handing out samples to be immediately used. read more

DCP is a cozy park located in downtown Durham with a eccentric art theme and a strong supporting community. Children will find a stone turtle nearby they can nap on, as well as an outdoor patio they can turn into a fort. At DCP, you have a great variety of seating and space; making it easy to bring friends, family, and pets. It is a great platform for live music, picnics, foot truck rodeos, market fan fare and pick-up games! read more

Durham Central Park is a great venue! I've been here often for food truck rodeos, picnics, and the farmer's market. It's a small, urban park, but the landscaping is really nice. My biggest complaint, however, is that there really is a lack of seating, especially for how often it plays host to events like Food Truck Rodeos and markets and the likes. So, remember to bring a picnic blanket when you visit downtown Durham on a nice day! read more
