Great restaurant. Definitely one of the top restaurants in Curitiba. I came with my girlfriend and she managed to get us a reservation. You will need to call in at least 1 week before you want to eat there so set up a reservation. Also remember that the restaurant sits around 30 people so space is limited. There is a valet service outside too.
When we arrived, they put a small wooden table behind my girlfriend and told her that she could put her purse on top. I've never seen this happen before and was pleasantly surprised. The interior is decorated very fancy and it when you eat here, it feels like you are royalty. The wine selection is extremely vast and they will give you an ipad to see all of the wine selections.
Service is fantastic. Because there are very few tables (Around 10 total) the waiters are very attentive. If your wine is started to get low, they will come immediately and top you off.
The food is Ukrainian. The owners are Ukrainian so they brought their culinary culture here in Brazil. I don't think I have ever eaten at a Ukrainian restaurant in Brazil so this was definitely a first. I had already seen their menu and knew exactly what I wanted. Borscht and Platzki as an appetizer. Pirogi and Kiev Chicken as my main course. The only problem is that that is food for 2 people and I couldn't possibly eat all of it nor wanted to splurge all of my money on a dinner for 2 people for 1 person because I knew my girlfriend would want to get something else.
So to my surprise, they had something similar to a tasting menu which did include the a fore mentioned plates along with a lot of other choices. For R$128/person, you can get 15 small plates. Of these 15, Borscht, Platzki, Pirogis and Kiev Chicken are included.
The entire course was started off with a salmon ravioli in a cream sauce. The ravioli was amazing and the sauce was out of this world. I couldn't find it on the menu so you probably can't order it.
The Borscht was fantastic. The next time I come, I will definitely order this soup as my main course. The Platzki was also very good. Not as good as the Borscht but still tasted like the Platzki's that I can get in Chicago.
The pirogi's were boiled but you can get them fried as well. They came with an interesting cream sauce. The insides were stuffed with potatoes some bits of sausage. The sauce contained lamb. I could have done without the lamb. I haven't eaten pirogi's in over 5 months so I needed to get my fix in. The only problem was that they only gave us 2 pirogi's total. One for me, one for my girlfriend. I definitely wanted more so the next time I come, I will just order pirogi's for the main course.
The Kiev chicken was so extremely tender and cooked brilliantly. There was a butter sauce on the bottom and between this and the pirogi, the meal was made.
For dessert, they gave us a small serving of Ambrosia and their take on an apple pie. The apple pie was a pie filled with custard and topped with thinly sliced apples. The two desserts were fantastic.
The only problem I had was the other foods that were served in this tasting menu. They started us off with sausage and sliced cold pork. The sausage was Brazilian sausage and not good at all. The pork was served cold and a little too tough.
Because there are so many small appetizers, they do not change your plate. They actually bring all of the foods out at the same time. Appetizers all come out at the same time and then the main courses come out. They change your plate between the two. All of the sauces from the other foods are already sitting on your plate and the actual flavor could be a little off if you still have sauce from your last food. I would have preferred if they changed the plates and cutlery a little more often.
All this being said, Durski is a really good restaurant and I will be coming back. The cost of everything for a bottle of wine for me any my girlfriend was around R$450. So I won't be coming here every week but once in a while, I will come back. read more
