Although we wish we were, we don't know a whole lot about wine, but we do enjoy tasting to find a favorite and learning more about how to taste. Just buy a tasting package at the counter. You have your choice of 7 wines for 11 euros & a souvenir metal tasting cup or 7 wines + the grand cru wines for 15 euros & a souvenir wine glass. We got 1 of each. Head down into the 13th century caves below and read through the tasting notes and info about each wine. It started with reds, went to white, and ended with the grand cru fancy cooler that a store associate will help you with scanning your "badge." You can pick up a wine carrier to the wines you'd like to buy along the way or just wait until the end for the store. They also go through if you want to ship an order home too. Everyone was very friendly. We ended up loving one of the whites, which surprised us. Stowed it in the luggage and can't wait to break it open for a special occassion!

At her suggestion I ended up with an unfamiliar domaine form St Aubin that was very good and reasonably priced. I found this whole experience to be pleasant and unpretentious unlike a few other experiences at local wine sellers. There was a nice selection available for tasting and covered the whole area around Chassagne-Montrachet. I wholeheartedly recommend Caveau as a place to stop and get to know many small producers in this area. I was looking to discover a small local producer and when I returned to my hotel and asked the owner to put the wine (white) in the fridge to chill a bit she remarked what an interesting bottle and asked where I found it. High praise from a local I believe.

A lot of the wine tasted freshly bottled and young; the wine is not young, but aimed to have lots of aging potential. Credit cards are accepted here if you would like to purchase a bottle or two. Plus, the tasting is free. This is an appointment based Winery, English available. You'll need to make sure to note your request in English or else you'll be lost in translation. We arrived early for our appointment and another worker attempted to assist us in French; I was completely lost, but the wine spoke for itself. We didn't get any tour through their VATS, vines, or cellar, but we did get a chance to taste their variety of wines. Definitely make a reservation ahead of time (we did it via email but had to discuss details via phone). They do tastings at 10am, 2pm, and 4pm. The tour was a little over an hour, and then we tasted for about an hour. The grand cru tasting is €120. The most basic one starts at €38 for tastings and a tour. Each one includes 6 glasses. We did the grand cru one, which was: - Chablis Grand Cru Les Preuses 2017 - Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru 2017 - Hospices de Beaune Corton-Vergennes 2014 - Corton Grand Cru 2016 - Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru 2014 - Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru 2013 Our guide was super knowledgeable and clearly passionate about wine, and we had a great experience on the tour and tasting.

The balance of minerality, toasty, and acidity with a long finish make it a very complex wine. Not as good as as say, a Ramonet, but definitely more affordable.
