Hidden away on Stevenson Square, you really need to know what you're looking for, as from the look of its outside, you would easily walk past Dusk til Pawn. First of all, the windows on the doors are barred and the large window displays are filled with instruments, retro TVs and other bric-a-brac that you'd expect to see in an actual pawn shop (albeit one that was soon to be going out of business). Open the doors and wander inside, however, and you'll see its true identity. The wall behind the bar is stocked with a huge array of spirits, housed in a large antique cabinet, which are the vital ingredients in the myriad of cocktails on offer. It's not a huge bar, but the high ceiling, mirrors and elongated bench seating on the left wall makes it feel spacious even though the lighting level is low - probably why there's the word 'dusk' in its name...? If you aren't into your spirits and cocktails (which I'm not, really) there are a number of craft beers and wines to keep you happy. We had bottles of Little Creatures Pale Ale which is an awesome Australian craft beer. I'd say it was the kind of bar you'd visit towards the end of your evening (as long as you're still 'compos mentis' to take in the vibe and enjoy the drinks properly). Given the range of drinks on offer I might even be tempted to try a cocktail or two ;)

I have to get off my chest how great a place Dusk til pawn is. Being right next door to our office, it's been one of those places that we've wanted to check out for months, yet always seem to forget to go once we're out! We were looking to go to Kraak, but that was either closed or we couldn't find it (due to a few too many free beers at the opening of the Bierkeller) down the back streets of the NQ, so DTP was a "let's do something different tonight" option which really paid off. Being owned and kind of part of NoHo, I knew it would be run by pretty cool guys and the decor and speakeasy vibe reminded me of a mix of NYC Meat Packing and San Diego Gas Lamp districts ( a strange combination, I'll give it that) but it all works really well. The clientele was late 20's through to early 40's and the music was everything from 80's classics to fairly upbeat modern rock showing that it's a cool bar that can broadly appeal to all age ranges. As we were only dropping in for one we thought we'd take advantage of their great craft beer menu (bottles, no draught)which saw us choosing their Flying Dog Atlantic lager over the Brooklyn (£4 a can which although expensive was no more than you'd pay for a beer around the NQ). Overall, Duck till pawn is a great little bar that I feel would work at any time of the day. I'm already looking at my calendar to see when I can go back; I enjoyed our 45mins there that much!

Met some friends for a few pre gig drinks based on Yelp recommendations! It took us a while to find the place as the location is incorrect on Yelp, it's between Fred Aldos and Noho, rather than on Little Lever St. Looks great from the outside, the double doors give it a cosy feeling which continues inside with the low lighting and bench seating. Interesting range of cocktails, which are created super fast in front of your eyes. I tried a 'hard core pawn' and a 'fools gold' and the group I was with tried about 10 different brews. I wanted to like it here, though I have to say I was underwhelmed. It seemed to be more style than substance. The cocktails were only ok and the acoustics made the noise levels irritating even in the relative quiet of a bank holiday Sunday afternoon.

I ordered the pawn star martini which was delicious and came with a mini champagne sorbet which I thought was a nice touch.

Now if you're looking to be economical about the whole affair do indulge in their "Deckhand" cocktails which are just 2 for £9 during happy hour. Free popcorn, vintage gaming, a cinema, a smoking deck, smiling bartenders and lots of elbow room? Well, I'm doing time with DOING THYME whenever I'm in Manchester.

Hello new favourite NQ bar!…read more Popped here for a few drinks on Weds night and have to say I was really impressed - what a hidden gem and great new addition to the Northern Quarter. Housed in the Hatters Hostel basement, you're talking about a cavernous speakeasy style bar that's been nautically/fashionably revamped without trying too hard, which is refreshing. It's similar to the Gas Lamp in decor but with a grittier edge that makes it seem pretty relaxed and a place for any time of the day. A great selection of craft beer on tap and in bottles, classic video games on free play in the back and a very cool special cinema (the Kino room) showing classic movies each night (Fear and Loathing was on when I came in) for patrons. Friendly staff, beer slightly cheaper than neighbouring bars and because it's tucked away maybe a haven from some of the 'nobbier' elements making the NQ a shadow of it's former self on a weekend evening. Can't wait to go back! (Fast free wifi too - with no need for a password - sweet!)

The Fitzgerald is not even slightly a speakeasy as it has a giant obvious door with a street sign,…read morebut it does have a nice decor and atmosphere. Cocktails were universally excellent - I adored the Lemon Meringue Pie which came with a toasted topping, the Vesper was as lethal as it was smooth, the Aviatrix came with a violet "fog" which was one of the best drink gimmicks I've ever come across and the remaining drinks we had featuring mint and campari (from the first page...I can't remember their names) were also brilliant. Prices range from about £6 - 8 which is basically as good as it gets for cocktails of this quality. Music was good with the DJ playing a range from jazz to 90s R&B. Service was a bit slow at times and they totally messed up the bill but the servers were all extremely nice and friendly, it's not a snooty place at all. Highly recommended.

My absolute favourite bar in Manchester but during the week rather than the weekend!…read more I've always loved a speakeasy and am a big fan of electro swing at the moment so when I first found the Fitzgerald I was so excited. The cocktails are great and the bar staff are always willing to help out with flavours. I fell in love with the Sazerac because of this place! They have a black and white movie on a wall from a projector and great music all the time with the comfiest of sofas to relax in with a drink. Fitzgerald on a Thursday has 2 cocktails for £10 and live music which ranges from a Ceilidh to R 'n' B Jazz. Just a fantastic mix and such an easy going atmosphere that I have literally spent hours in. I hired the place out for a cocktail making class for a birthday gift for a friend and it was just amazing fun. We had three cocktails (that we got to choose based on the birthday girl's favourites) and we all got to go behind the bar to make them (8 of us taking turns) but best of all it was only around £30 a head...for the whole place to ourselves! I've been more times than I can count but now I'm in Edinburgh I do miss the place!

I came here for dinner with friends as it had great reviews and I found the food to be quite good…read more It's like Japanese fusion served in tapas style, the flavour of everything was great and I loved all the things I ordered, which were the Salmon tataki, chicken Shumai and the broccoli side dish. The portions are on the smaller side for the price, which is about £30 per person for a meal of 3-4 dishes. The atmosphere is on the lively bougie side, they had a DJ for a while as well. I liked the decor and how vibes overall. The staff were friendly and polite but service was quite slow as it took ages to get the waiters attention to order. The one thing that disappointed me was the lack of sake ok the menu as they seemed to be a Japanese tapas bar, so sake seems like an obvious option. They only have whiskey, beer, wine and cocktails though. Also they only accept card, no cash and also American Express which I found out when I tried.. Overall good food, chic atmosphere and lively, but quite pricey, no sake and not so efficient service.

This was 4 small plates for just £15. Very good value! There are 4 different sections with 3 different items in each - since there was 4 of us, we tried every item - plus duplicates of what sounds the best. Depending what you get, you won't leave hungry. But it depends - the ribs are more filling than e.g. the dim sum selection. My fav from the Summer Set Menu were the ribs, and the mackerel donburi I think. Duck and watermelon salad was good even though I don't like watermelon! Fish collars were yummy too! So much of it was good! We also got dessert which was not included in the set menu - costs £6 each dessert. My rating has gone up to 5 stars from 4 because every time I have been, the food is almost spot on. Would recommend it to anyone. Service is friendly too.
