What a great store for all decor and gifts. Picked up a few items while visiting the location, service was outstanding!

My review has to do with ordering their spice island essential oil. I have been picking up this scent from their store in highlands for years and have it in my home most of the time. unfortunately I ordered several bottles to keep my home full of that holiday sent but was saddened to find it bore no resemblance to what I am accustomed to. In fact it smells more like watered down pledge. On the good side they got it to me in record time. read more

Dutchman's is FANTASTIC in every way!! The store has ever changing high quality,very fairly priced, unique and beautiful home decor. This is accompanied with friendly and attentive customer service. The store manager, Darlene has set a warm, lovely and accommodating culture! I have been shopping there for 9 years and have not just purchased multiple items from large chandeliers, furniture and bedding but always gathered with each visit great decorating ideas just walking into the store! 10 stars read more

Black Friday 2012, wife purchased an item. In the haste of the shopping day, the day after Thanksgiving on Main St. in Highlands, NC...the return policy wasn't noticed/clearly identified/addressed by the sales associate (Gabby). We do agree there is a burden to both parties to note the return policy. However, if the store DOESN'T take back anything, it would certainly be good customer service by the store to note that there is NO returns, only store credit. Especially, if a few hundred dollars is being spent. Wife brought the item home (smaller of the two available) and we figured out almost immediately that it was TOO small. The item NEVER LEFT THE BACK OF OUR CAR!!!!! Called the store that evening, two times to work through what was the best choice, and had the larger item held to exchange the next day (by Gabby). Arrived at the store, reviewed the larger item and determined it was the right one. However, there were two specific spots where the item on the sales floor was damaged. The day before, Gabby had confirmed that the only time any added savings would be available is if the item has damage. In this case, the item was on sale. In this case, there would be additional savings as we were willing to take the floor item with damage. They had a second piece, the same, at their warehouse. However, we were constrained by time and indicated we would take the damaged item. Gabby reneged and said the store doesn't provide any additional discount for damaged if it is on sale. Huh? Didn't she say less than 12 hours earlier that they would provide some added savings to take a damaged piece off their hands? Store said the only money we would get back is store credit. Asked to speak to the store manager, Shannon. She indicated that this was the case. We addressed that it was apparent that we were working to find the right item AND that we were told that we could get a bit more savings on the damaged item. However, she (Shannon) said there was really nothing that could be done. Gabby stood there like a deer in the headlights. We certainly could have made this a bigger issue while in the store with a line backing up. However, we expressed our frustration and that it was clear that we were working to figure out what piece would be right for our home. Again, the item NEVER LEFT THE BACK OF OUR CAR!!!!! Shannon said she would speak to the owner, Stephanie. So we left the item we purchased and got store credit for the value of the item. Two days later, we called the store and coincidentally, Gabby answered. We left a message to have Shannon and/or Stephanie call me back. NOT surprisingly, she acted like she had no idea who we were or what we were talking about. A day or two later, Shannon called us back. She had spoken with Stephanie and store credit was all that they were willing to do. Again, we expressed that we felt this was poor customer service and that they could have done a bit more to set a good impression. At the end of the day, this really isn't a shock. The store wants to shove any sale down the buyers throat without providing any customer service and support. They know that they are in a town that has been seeing growth by upper middle class and wealthy folks that live and visit the area in and around Highlands, NC and that many of their customers don't worry about their spending and will gladly take a store credit. They apparently have NO consideration for knowing that sometimes something might not work. Now we have money tied up at this establishment that we can't use for the right item for our space. It's not like we were purchasing a bunch of junk to fill space. It would seem that they would be a bit more understanding during these times for small businesses. I would certainly be cautious about shopping here. Again, all they will do is force their inventory down your throat, with substandard customer service and support. Gabby seems to be a bit timid with how to handle a store that has the type of customer base that shops in Highlands. Shannon, well, in this instance she was really only a messenger. And Stephanie...an owner that seems to be an absentee owner, doesn't have the gall to call us personally to work through this. What a coward! This is not a good example of a small business that want's to do what they can to be understanding and demonstrate small business service. I would expect Home Depot or Best Buy to force store credit upon you, but they have great return/refund policies. Stephanie, come on down to a Atlanta and learn something about customer service. Oh wait, you're in Highlands where you think you're immune to leaving a bad taste in a consumer's mouth. Well, then go down the street to Reeve's Ace Hardware and learn about small town, small business customer service from them! Enjoy our $250! Maybe you can buy some more tchotchkes for your store or provide some customer service training for Gabby! Happy Holidays...you get 1 star! read more

Love, love, love this store. Everything is pretty and colorful and happy. It's a 2 story shop featuring vintage-looking furniture, fun home accessories, rugs and quirky gifts. The furniture can be custom made, or you can buy what they have there. Every piece is available in every color you see in the shop. You can also order light distress or heavy distress on the finishes. The furniture is heavy, solid and well made. Unique pieces such as kitchen islands, bureaus, dressers, tables. Not everything in their catalog is featured in the store, so if you're interested be sure to ask for a catalog. The reason for only 4 stars is that we ordered furniture 2 months ago and we're still waiting. It's taking forever! We were told it could take a while if it had to be special ordered, but we were also told we'd get a phone call telling us how long it would be. We had to email and eventually call months later to get a time estimate. Not the best customer service, but far from the worst. read more

Absolute worst experience of my life. The way the manager or whoever she is talks to her employees and the way she treats them is absolutely disgusting. I came into the store in hopes to furnish my entire house with their unique furniture but after she got rude with me when I ask a couple of questions and I noticed how she was speaking with her employees I will never set foot back in that store. And I will make sure all of my friends and all of my friends friends know how crappy the store really is. Gabbi is a very rude and vulgar person she does not need to be in the position that she's in the owner should think very hard about the type of management that was hired at that store. read more

I showed up at the shop 10 minutes early. Waited until they opened and at 10 minues past knocked on the door. Since I had driven 40 minutes to get to the store I felt like it was not a lot to do to knock. But apparently that was a problem because the person who was in the store was totally put off by me. It was as if a customer at the store was not welcome. She was snippy and unwelcoming during my entire visit. I was going to stay and purchase some items but was so put off that I left. No purchase. Incredibly disappointing because all the previous times I've visited the store I was welcome with open arms. Not sure what was going on today, but so very disappointing. Can't imagine I will be making the trek back anytime soon, if ever. read more

Liked this store's displays & wandered in this afternoon. Saw 2 candles i liked that weren't marked with prices. Took both candles to the checkout desk where 3 employees were on their phones. Asked about prices, if the candles were soy, etc. The male employee looked up & said "there's a sign back there." I politely said I didn't see the sign. Not one of the 3 employees moved. I found the sign, saw no details on it other than price, and left while all 3 employees had their heads down on their phones. There were no other customers. They never looked up. Love this store ! It's my must go place anytime we are in Highlands. Really unique items. Great for home decor and little gifts. If you are looking for furniture that is that "one piece "to make a room you will find it there. Lots of painted finished. They always arrange the shop with a seasonal theme. I have many cute holiday decorations from them. It's also a place I make my list for birthdays and wedding gifts. I just got to Highlands and can't wait to go see what they have now! read more

I have purchased many items at this store and certainly have had a good experience so far. I found the manager Gabby, the assistant manager Shannon, and other employee I dealt with very pleasant and anxious to help. They have worked with me on exchanges, deliveries etc. They made the experience of furnishing a new home easier for me and deserve acknowledgement for it. Thank you ladies. I'll be back! read more

In the past, we have spent thousands at Dutchman's in both Highlands and Chamblee. We went in over Memorial Day weekend and two things happened. First, prices on sofas we intended to buy were up by almost 30%. Secondly, Gabby told us an item was on sale because it was a Bramble product, but when we came in just days later, the owner said no. She didn't apologize, she didn't offer a small discount, she didn't even smile at us. The young lady behind the counter was even worse. She questioned our story like we were criminals. What a terrible mistake. We will no longer be recommending this store to our friends or making purchases there. We bought a sofa and mirror at Ballard's . The owner needs major customer service training. When an employee tells people an item is on sale, it's on sale. It's a pretty basic rule. read more
