I went here for VHS to DVD conversion. They are expensive, and there is no quality control. One of the DVD's came technically inoperable. When I returned it, there was no apology, and it took nearly three weeks to get it replaced! It was like I had to apologize to them for inconveniencing them to redo it! I didn't like their attitude, their service, or the quality of their product. read more

History

Established in 2006.

Owner/Founder Jim Cloney started DVD Memories Preserved as a part time business from his basement in 2006. Having worked in television and video for over 20 years, his experience in multi-format conversion and digital editing dates back to 1993. In 2011, DVD Memories opened a location inside the Business and Technology Center in Champaign. Today, the business has 3 locations throughout central Illinois and continues to expand.

Meet the Business Owner: James C.

With over 24 years of video production experience, Jim started his career in 1992 transferring 8mm film to video. He went on to master the art of digital video editing and worked in broadcast production for 15 years. Throughout his tenure, he won numerous awards as a writer, producer and director. During that time, he worked as production manager and creative services director for television stations in Illinois and Florida. Jim later combined his management, marketing and creative development experience to create a business model for a consumer based digital video conversion business. In 2006, he started DVD Memories Preserved which he ran from his basement. Today, DVD Memories Preserved has 3 central Illinois locations in Decatur, Champaign and Springfield and continues to grow. Through Jim's leadership and vision, the business strides to be the leader in vintage media conversion

I shouldn't have been nervous about working with Timothy because he was very good at his job and easy to work with. When discussing how I wanted him to film me, he listened and offered feedback. When I received the final edit of my show, I couldn't have been happier. Timothy captured my best angles and was able to filter out a great deal of crosstalk that was coming in from outside of the room. My husband has hired this business a few times to clean our home- presumably because it's cheap. I…read morekeep telling him he is wasting his money. They literally just push the dirt around. If I am hiring someone to clean my home, I expect it to be CLEAN. I swiffer/mop, vacuum, windex and clean countertops daily.That's not what I hire someone to do. I hired someone to CLEAN the things I don't have the time for like showers, floors, etc. This company "cleaned" my house but didn't actually clean at all. They opened all of my blinds and maybe vacuumed parts of the floor to make it look clean. They DID NOT actually clean. They moved all my stuff around and I had to search for things that were misplaced. I wish I still had the photos from the last time they "cleaned" my house but I am sharing what I do have. I'm sure these employees have the best intentions but I rate their cleaning abilities a 0 out of 10. I can push dirt around for free.

Vivi was a great cleaner. She did her best around all my mess. Sometimes there were areas that I'd…read morejust have her skip if they weren't accessible. She came weekly. Then one week, with no notice, no discussion, her husband called me to say that she didn't want to come to my house anymore because it was too hard. I felt crushed and ashamed. I know my house is messy. I'm disabled and really struggle. I honestly expected a price increase, which would have been fine. If I couldn't afford it, I would have seen if maybe every other week would work, etc. Instead, I just got shamed and dropped with about 5 minutes notice prior to a visit. For this reason, I would not recommend Vivi to disabled people or those who are worried about a cleaner judging them. She will judge you, and might fire you for not being clean enough.

We dropped off three VHS tapes to be digitized back in March, mainly caring about one of them for an important anniversary. At the time, we were told to expect a 3-4 week turnaround, which seemed reasonable. Unfortunately, it's now June and we've only just received them, not due to any proactive communication from the company, but only after persistent follow-ups on our part. Throughout the process, we left multiple voicemails and attempted to get updates, but calls went unanswered and messages unreturned. While we understand that small businesses can get busy, the complete lack of communication was frustrating and unacceptable. What made it worse was that the one tape we truly cared about, the one we specifically mentioned in our voicemails, came back unplayable. We understand that sometimes tapes degrade and that's not necessarily the company's fault. However, the only indication of the issue was a sticky note on the tape. No call, no explanation, no heads-up. In addition, the company only managed to transfer one of the VHS tapes to a flash drive. However, the drive itself doesn't work. We paid for this service, and despite reaching out multiple times about the issue, we have yet to receive a proper response or resolution. This could have been handled with just a bit more care and responsiveness. We gave the benefit of the doubt for months, but unfortunately, the experience left us extremely disappointed. read more
