I called the club and was put through to a young man called Lutalo. He asked me a lot of questions about my goals and went through various services that the club offered. When I got there I did have to wait a while to be dealt with, but finally the receptionist showed me around and gave me all the information that I was after.
The gym is actually inside the Waldorf Hilton Hotel. It's very compact and consists of about 30 cardiovascular pieces, some weights machines, a free weights area, a stretching area, a spinning area and a studio for classes. There are also a steam room, a sauna and a pool.
Good Points: The staff did seem professional and friendly. As normal with these LA Fitness gyms I got talking to a personal trainer - these guys are independent, but pay the gym a monthly fee to use the gym with clients. As always, LA Fitness uses Technogym equipment - this is a positive. The gym is reasonably well kept (although there was a hole in one of the plasterboard walls). I like the way that the spinning area is part of the main gym - spinning classes are normally done with load music and a positive vibe coming from the instructor.
Bad points: There was no natural light in the gym. Although they had mirrors, they had been installed in Victorian style doors - in keeping with the style of the hotel, I guess. Anyway, they weren't clean!
A final word: This gym was very average. For what it's worth, the staff didn't try that hard to close me. They just gave me my free 5-day pass and sent me on my way. I'll let you decide whether this is a good or bad point read more
