There was a bt of a queue but the staff got through it in no time and before you know it I was on my train munching my triple decker sandwich and cheddar cheese and fancy onion crisps. Ok there are cheaper sandwich shops but they simply not as nice.

This could be a bad thing in terms of choice, but it's not. There's too much choice in the M&S range as it is already. I spend ages every time just staring at the selections of sandwiches and salads. Then another age choosing juice. This store is in an incredibly handy location for anyone who commutes in and out of Cardiff Central, as it's right there in the station. It's also great as a place to stop into before going to Vue Cinemas; here you can get healthy and yummy snacks instead of salty cardboard hot dogs. In short; the food here is fantastic, if not cheap. Great for a healthy snack or treat, not so great for stocking up on basic before you head home (although, maybe if you're on a better wage then me, you'd be alright).

Although it's surrounded by new housing, it's actually pretty central, and only a 10 minute walk from the centre of town. It's also served by several of Barry's local buses. Although a lot of people are disparaging about Morrison's, I quite like this store: it's clean, bright, and well-stocked, and with wide aisles. The quality of fruit and veg is fine (not quite up to Waitrose standards, but then you're paying less) and it's large enough to cope with the most demanding weekly shop. There's an in-store bakery, cake shop, butcher, fish counter and delicatessen, as well as a fresh salad and fresh pizza counter. The large cafe at one end of the store is fine, if you need some sustenance before or after your shop, and it seems popular with pensioners and the odd family doing just that. There's a very large car park, and a petrol station with very competitive prices and reasonable opening hours (NB it doesn't open until 7am, so if you have an early start, fill up the night before). Other facilities include a cashpoint, customer toilets and recycling centre.

Morrisons is great at trying to get that 'market feel' with a bakery, deli counter, fish counter and butchers. The petrol station can be a pain - the layout is terrible and if it's busy it's hard to get out of the car park. They have just re-furbished this and i havent seen if they've actually changed the layout - i hope so though!

I often forget about Sean's Butchers on Clifton Street because there are two other butchers in…read moreclose proximity in the middle of the street, and Sean's Butchers is a little out on a limb near the Newport Road end of the street. This is a shame, because they are a fine butcher's also. Luckily, Ozzy's is my favourite convenience store in this area, and so every time I visit Ozzy's I am reminded that Sean's Butchers exist, which means that I get to shop there every once in a while. They specialise in home cooked products, making them a little bit different to the other two butchers on the strip. They also carry all the usual conventional cuts of meat, and the prices are reasonable. The shop is always really clean and well presented, and the staff are really friendly and enthusiastic about what they do. Nothing is too much trouble. I wish I could remember to shop here more often!

The patrons are always friendly, and helpful. The shop provides groceries of English, Indian, East Euro, Turkish quite a mix, and getting a tin of Chickpea Chana Masala, to eat with rice or some naan...just lush. The store is like stepping into Dr Who's Tardis :-)

Like the Sweet Mart in Easton this is a store that is all about the customer. They buy in only the best quality fruit and vegetables, for example, and sell it at reasonable and affordable prices. It's all organic and locally sourced where possible - stocked full of love and good energy. The Asian food section is immense with every type of spice and raw bean imaginable. It's a good place too to find adverts and posters for local and ethical happenings. A great store that comes highly recommended.

I love the Co-op Acacia honey, but I'm hard pressed to find it at the inner city stores. They also do a better selection of bread here, with some great healthful seeded options that again I struggle to buy elsewhere. It's a busy shop, especially in the early evenings, and so there can sometimes be a queue at the check-out. It also means that if you call in at around 8.00pm some of the more popular daily items (particularly bread and salad bags etc) have sold out, and so I recommend a mid afternoon visit if possible. Although, one benefit to shopping here mid evening is that they usually have a good selection of perishables that have been discounted quite heavily. I have been known to fill my fruit bowl, and my veg rack from a mid evening visit!

It is a deli that serves a good selection of artisan, with a very local flare, food. I had Welsh Rarebit along with a Lemon Tart. Both were nicely presented on a slate plate and tasted great. The food is more expensive that you might like to pay but it is Pontcanna and the food is a notch up from your typical deli. There is seating both inside and out which is OK in the summer, but I am guessing it would be hard to find seating on a wet day.

This is, without a doubt, the best butcher I've ever been to…read more Strangely, butchers are maybe not the first place you think about when considering high-quality food; today it's all about falafel and smoothies if you want to be cool. But there is something homely and traditional about the food and experience that a good butcher can provide. And here, of course, I'm talking about David Lush. The quality of produce here is unsurpassable. The cut of meat and freshness is always to a high standard. They do a great range of sausages and burgers, including gluten-free options. Notably, their bacon is to die for; none of that thin supermarket stuff we're unfortunately used to. Yes, David Lush is more expensive than the supermarket. Yes, you have to get their quickly in the day before they sell out (they're just that good). But none of that really matters, does it?
