I have use Dwayne's in the past for black-and-white film processing, and the results were quite good. I just got my scans back after they had my film for just over a month, and the quality control is just not there. I am still waiting for the negatives and contact sheet, but there are obvious dust specks on the scanned images, and some of the individual scans show evidence of chemical streaking on the negatives. I talked to a nice lady at the company after they had had the film for three weeks, in order to get a time frame for delivery. She said they had a backlog because someone had sent in a mislabeled canister that had movie film in it, which has a special coating that caused their black-and-white chemistry to become contaminated. Regardless of that, you cannot ignore the reviews here-- it is pretty obvious that Dwayne's quality and service has gone downhill. I will be processing my own film from now on, unless I can find another commercial processor that has the reputation that Dwayne's used to have. read more

After dead silence, I emailed them and asked where my order was. They said that the turn around time is "2-3 weeks" and that I'd receive a shipping email and soon a download link. The order form that I used to ship my film said that the "LAB TIME" is 4 DAYS. INCONSISTENT INFORMATION. I have emailed again and will be waiting for them to let me know EXACTLY where my film is. WAY back in 1970 I entered my photo career. I had taken a 4x5 shot of autumn leaves in New England. This was my first venture into large format film. In 2023 (!) I sent he positive transparency to DWYAN's for a print of this photo for my nostalgic reasons. There were SO MANY EXCUSES as to why it took so long from their printer being down..software problems ..and more. Today ...nearly 18 months later I received my prints and transparency. The prints are of good quality. But a year and half????? No never again with Dwayane's. ALTHOUGH there were these issues..the did finally come through ..but the did not even place the original 4x5 transparency in a new sleeve. NEVER use this company again. read more

I'm giving this place a good review because I didn't get a bunch of spam in my email, they processed my film in the time frame that is estimated and the value is good. The prints were good quality. I submitted a message with my order to reach out to me if my order was going to take longer than the estimated time frame they give. I was hoping I would get the prints before my son's birthday and it was within a couple days. I was happy with my experience with them. I read quite a few negative reviews about processing and delivery time, but one person wrote a different review about being patient. I decided to trust that review and I am glad I did. There isn't a lot of places that process film, so if anyone is looking to get their film processed more quickly, then it would be best to try a different company. read more

Considering the fact that Dwayne's is reasonably priced and does things relatively fast I am giving them a good rating for reliability and reasonable prices. They also know what they are doing. You send in rolls of exposed film and you get good photos and files back. At least that is my experience. read more

Dwayne's does good work, and before covid they were turning C-41 soup-and-scan jobs around in 24 hours. But since then they seem to have had terrible, terrible traffic problems. Six weeks processing time for a couple rolls of C-41? You have to be kidding. The work is still good, but if I can't get film back in a couple weeks I can't get photos to customers in a reasonable time and that means I can't get paid. Their total inability to turn small jobs around in a reasonable time finally got me to get the Jobo system running and start doing C-41 in-house again. read more

This is the most frustrating business to deal with. I only chose to go with them as my sister recommended them, however she used them back in 2017-2018 when it seemed like business was better. The website states UP TO 12 business days...... hahahahah. I sent my film in on July 25th and finally got them back October 25th. My husband and I would go back and forth calling once a week and EVERY WEEK we are told the same thing. "In the process of getting it done, should be out to you next week at the latest!" One week goes by.... Same thing. We call again. Same response. And it was like this for THREE MONTHS. These pictures were extremely sentimental pictures and I was constantly in fear they lost them or ruined them. (They actually did mess up on one of the rolls.) I have never in my life wanted to talk so badly about a business. The photos did turn out very good so I guess that's the only positive with all this. I couldn't imagine waiting 3 months for a pile of shit. So I guess if you're not in a hurry, and want to wait UP TO THREE MONTHS (not up to 12 days like their website says) then I guess you can get a good deal with Dwayne's. Worst business I have ever in my life dealt with and I cannot emphasize that enough. I sent a single roll of slide film with the expectation, set by a person at the company, that it would take 5-7 business days to have it processed, scanned, and mounted. Three weeks later I'd not heard anything so I called and was told they had it but it was still in process. Another two weeks after that, I called and they told me it had just been finished. So I expected I'd receive the scans by the next day; nope. I had to call and then they sent them to me. The scans were terrible so I spoke to someone who told me she needed to speak to the lab technician and I would get a call back. I did not receive a call. So I called again and spoke to someone who said "we performed the service so there's no refund option." I explained the service was not performed in a satisfactory manner but she just kept repeating herself. First time, last time. Don't do it. read more

I have also emailed them only to receive an email back saying "the lab is still working on your scans" and no other information. Despite my previous experience I decided to give Dwayne's another chance. Big mistake. First I asked for my 120 to be cut in strips of three in the "Instructions Box" on the order form. The film was cut in strips of two. One of the photos shown has Kodak 15 in the sky. No idea where these ghost letters came from. I was introduced to Dwayne's from a teacher in college, we would send all of our super 8 Ektachrome rolls to be developed by this lab. More than a decade later, this is still my choice of laboratory. Since it's difficult to find anyone still developing film, I decided to pay and send it in. I received my order back today with one noted unable to process and the other envelope with a handful of printed pictures that were basically not pictures at all but just blank or not pictures at all. Dwayne's Photo was my first choice for its fast turnaround time and affordable prices. But now the quality is really unacceptable... Now I would rather find a better place with better quality, of course, higher price. I sent 10+ rolls of film for development and the highest quality scans. The results are not consistent, I mean it varies dramatically. Despite the film having scratches, dust, and marks. They even cut a few of my photos! Some of the scans are totally messed up as well. They charge an additional $5 for XPAN scans (reasonable to me), but they not only heavily cropped the pictures but also messed up the aspect ratio. I don't understand why my XPAN photos are all stretched horizontally. Also, one roll of the XPAN scans is totally out of focus, this makes me suspect my camera or lens needs calibration. After I scanned myself with probably one of the cheapest film scanners: Epson V600, (with AUTO scan settings lol), I found out the V600 results are sharper, better color(I think), better resolution, proper aspect ratio than Dwayne's highest quality scan options. In the film photography community, people value passion, history, and dedication. It's really sad for me to leave this negative feedback on the film lab who processed the last roll of Kodak Kodachrome... read more

We have Had the worst experience ever with this company. Our cameras got to them 8th of August - and paid for digitalis, prints & overnight shipping. We then had to call them several weeks later asking for an update and it turned out that the package was sitting right in their building we hadn't gotten any updates at all she then sent me files after I called (which makes me wonder how long they were just sitting there) at first we didn't recognize some of the photos and called back to tell them that we ended up figuring out that it was an old camera that got sent by mistake so we talked to a supervisor and thought we had gotten that cleared up they promised us they would refund our shipping since we did pay for overnight and we did not receive that. That was on August 30 we have not received our refund for shipping we have also not received our print outs that we paid for. We have called several times asking about this they keep giving us the runaround. We have talked to 1 nice woman the whole time - and even she can't get ahold of people to get information. They promised to call us back Later in the day next day we won't hear back for a week - we have to call them. Today we called to ask for our order number since we did not receive that in any email exchange or phone call exchange and they are saying they cannot send us a refund for shipping without the order number. Today they had told me they cannot find our order anywhere even with our name, email, phone number, shipping address, order date, credit card info, etc. The woman on phone also said they misplaced our negatives/photos when we initially thought the photos were wrong and now they can't find them either. DO NOT WORK WITH THIS COMPANY. You're better off going to Walgreens. read more

I've used Dwayne's a few times over the past three or four years. They currently have a roll of slide film of mine which I sent them a month ago. Just know that you're supporting a legacy when you send film to Dwayne's. It's not about speed. You may not see your film for a month. It might not be mounted onto slides like you explicitly requested. But it doesn't matter. If it did you'd have sent your film to The Darkroom or processed it yourself. Personally, I don't really like supporting Californxians and I don't have any E-6 chemicals. So Dwayne's it was. Sometimes they come through without a hitch and that's just icing on the cake. read more

I just recently got into pinhole photography. Thinking that developing my own pictures would be too difficult, I sent off my B&W film to Dwayne's Photo. After doing that, I tried developing out and found it was pretty easy. I also got an Epson Perfection V600 scanner ... not the top of the line ... to scan my developed negatives. After doing that, I got my prints back from Dwayne's Photo. They looked terrible ... lacking in detail, almost just blobs of grey, black and white. I figured I screwed up, but for the heck of it, took the negatives they sent back to me and scanned them. The results were much better than Dwayne's Photo's prints. Unfortunately the negatives also contained a huge amount of images of hair and dust, and I'm quite sure the film was clean when I sent it in. Maybe they got the film or negatives dirty and then applied some defect hyper-removing technology, resulting in washed out prints, I don't know. In any case, for the cost and wait time, it sure wasn't worth it. read more

I have used Dwayne's Photo as my primary film lab for years for 120mm developing and scanning, and used to recommend it highly to my photographer peers. The last few times I've sent in rolls (usually 3-4 at a time) I have received little to no communication from the staff without reaching out first, and it has taken ridiculously long. I am currently waiting on an order to be processed. It has been 5 weeks with very sparse and inconsistent communication regarding the status of my film and scans. I was told they would be done last week, and when I followed up this week I was told that they were waiting on the last roll to be scanned before they sent it all over. It's been another 24 hours and I still have not heard any updates or received my scans. Very disappointing, really. I would love to continue supporting them but will not be sending my film here again. read more

I understand that "Mom and Pop" operations are to be celebrated, homaged, encouraged, whatever. All I know is that Dwayne's currently holds the contract for Fujifilm mailer processing and, due to a new USPS rule, all stamped mailers can be held indefinitely at the USPS local office. Now why on Earth is Dwayne's not advising the retailers that sell these mailers? If by chance the mailer gets through the USPS and is received by Dwayne's, FujiFilm pays them. If the mailer never makes it, the customer's photos, like mine ARE LOST!!! Folks, this is a no-brainer, just have all the retailers make a stamp with the instructions to "Take to USPS" and include in the description BEFORE someone purchases the service. Per Mr. Grant Steinle, the GM, "this is not our problem, call FujiFilm." What am I supposed to do, ask a Japanese company to negotiate with the USPS? The irony is that I get to search for another "Mom and Pop" store that does E-6 on-premises. In the meantime, my hummingbird pictures from the Summer are lost :( read more

Really good experience with Dwayne's. I sent an old Kodak disc film to them, requesting development, 2x glossy prints, and a CD of any images. Unfortuently, the film was too old to get any clear images (it expired back in 1993, afterall). That said, they processed it very quickly, refunded me part of me order price (and didn't just print 2x glossies to make a buck), informed me of the results, and sent me the developed negative, CD of images, and one set of prints in a very short turn-around time. So for me, they're a dependable service. For those who complain about not getting a nearly full refund from images that didn't turn out: it takes them the same time and care to process and work on expired negatives with no images as it would if your images turned out. - Fast turnaround time - Great communication (through e-mail and PayPal comments); don't be put off by their paper order form! - Excellent price; especially when you consider that very few places develop old stock specialty film. - Honesty; see blurb above. I've been sending 3-4 rolls a month to Dwayne's for the past 5 years or so. I had tried several "top" labs before and was not happy with the quality and consistency. Ever since switching to Dwayne's I've been sending all my work to them. I shoot primarily B&W and E6 films and their work is far and away better than anyone else I had tried. I generally call and ask their turnaround times if it's a rush job because they sometimes get backed up, but otherwise I haven't had any issues. read more

I sent my film using the address that they provided and it was eventually returned by the post office as undeliverable - "Delivery attempted, addressee not known at place of address." When I contacted them about this, they had no suggestions other than to try to send it again from a different post office. Fingers crossed they refund my money as they said they would. I decided to take a chance on Dwayne's and send in a mix of 35mm film; some (untested) expired B&W and (tested) expired/fresh color negative film.. I figured any lab that could survive in this digital age didn't do so by mistake, so I chalked up the negative reviews to perfectionists, and sent my film off in their containers with zip lock bags to keep out any moister. Shortly after Dwayne's received my film, I received an email from Paypal saying my order had been partially refunded. Turns out my expired B&W film came out blank, which sucked considering I had some really good shots in there, but that was on me since I hadn't tested the film prior. Oh well. It was nice of them to refund me for this, though. As for the time for development, I had sent a good amount of film, so I wasn't expecting a quick turn around, though Dwayne's exceeded this by having my film mailed out to me within a few days. When it was delivered, I was notified via email with tracking information. Needless to say, I was excited to see what came out. Opening up that package, however, my heart immediately sank. All the film I had sent in, minus the 100 speed film that'd been expired for five years, seemed grossly under-developed. Inside, there was a note saying the quality was due to the film being expired, however as I said earlier in this review, this was a mix of film I had sent in. Two of the rolls weren't set to expire until 2017 and were cold stored until shipped. The only images that were somewhat presentable were those I'd purposefully over-exposed, leaving me wondering what happened in development, and questioning if the issue with my B&W film was really due to an error on my part. I did not want to post this review until I double-checked if my camera was the real issue (despite having already been film tested), but after sending these same batches of film to another lab, I know now that the issue was not my film or camera. I was really hoping my search for a proper film lab would end with Dwayne's, and did consider giving them another chance due to their prices for 120/220 film, but after some thought I decided I'd rather not risk losing any more film. read more

I generally prefer to use local services, but my trusted camera store - Robert's Camera - sadly, no longer processes B&W film. I even asked at the store if they knew of anyone locally who does, but apparently, no one develops B&W film in the Indianapolis/Carmel area anymore. After a quick search, I found Dwayne's online. Their reviews and prices seemed reasonable, so I decided to give them a shot. I would highly recommend using Dawyne's to anyone who still uses B&W film and does not have a way to develop their own film. I sent them my roll of film on a Wednesday, and in a week, I had my prints back. They even sent an email with the tracking info, which was a nice touch. I was also very happy with the quality of their prints - and for $14 for a 36 exposure film, including shipping, it was quite the bargain. I will definitely be using Dwayne's from my B&W film developing needs in the future. read more
