Kicking off our meal at E+S with the rather large oysters.
    Mark S.

I have likely eaten here a dozen different Saturdays and have never been disappointed. It's never too crowded despite having just 12 - 15 tables and a thoroughly unpretentious atmosphere. I do find this rather surprising as I believe its fish is as good, if not better, than anything else in the area. I have seen a few reviews below criticising the 'limited' menu however know that is the starting point. This is a market AND a restaurant. Consequently, the staff are willing to prepare anything they have available for sale. Should you see something interesting on their chalkboard, just ask for it. Example #1, no oysters indicated on last night's menu but our group started with a dozen and half and they were fabulous. No grouper listed on the menu either but I requested the grouper as my entree and it was terrific. Additionally, I have seen reviews criticising their pricing. This is extremely fresh seafood being prepared for you in landlocked St. Charles, IL, quite far from any ocean. Getting it here without freezing it comes at a cost. If too pricy for you, Arthur Treacher's might be a better choice. It is worth noting the restaurant being of the BYOB variety not only ensures you have the proper wine pairing with whatever you do order but certainly helps keep the final bill down. Also, I have found the staff to be quite friendly and they are willing to work with us on most requests if they can accommodate them. This is a rather minor point but my wife is gluten-free and they will always warm up her frozen GF bread. Many restaurants won't consider this cause it's 'outside' food. Finally the chef does a wonderful job with preparation considering the small kitchen. If you have never tried E+S, I really believe you should. Expect an entree to run you somewhere between $35 and $45 and that will include either a generous salad or cup of their soup. IMHO, it is more than worth it.

    Tuna tower

I came here once but they used to have a slightly larger selection on the menu. Judging from recent reviews, I guess they don't have many sandwiches anymore? I definitely wished they had a website or some sort, so you can see what they offer now. The tuna tower was an excellent appetizer. Prices were slightly expensive and portions were okay. Seafood was fresh. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Ample amount of parking. They have a decent amount of seating.

What a gem. This is the best seafood in the area. The service was great as well. We'll be back.

Need to make a reservation when you dine here. They have a small menu and I heard it changes. The appetizer was like sushi and had an amazing sauce. The soup had chunks of fish. The fish was cooked perfectly and the flavors were amazing. Interesting choice to have a baked potato and it had melted butter and sour cream. Great portions, so we didn't have leftovers to take home. It was packed for dinner. There was a guitarist playing live music, which made it very nice. Oh and the Google maps takes you in the back alleys, which leads to a dead-end. It is off the main road and across from Salerno.

The best fish and service! Visit this gem! This hidden place serves from a fish distributer. Wild fresh!

    Shrimp quesadillas

Coming into E&S is a bit odd. There's a restaurant and a seafood counter and you're not certain if your supposed to seat yourself. Might just be a sign of the times but took a few minutes to have someone show us to the table. The entire somewhat simple lunch menu here looks great, I wish we could try it all. Three of us ordered the sautéed grouper sandwich, the shrimp roll and the shrimp quesadillas. This seafood was all fantastic. If you're looking for a fast, efficient, high volume place this isn't your restaurant. Try it if you are looking for something different.

Came here for a small birthday celebration and was impressed by the freshness of the food! There was live music as well. The staff was really friendly and made great recommendations! It's byob as well. Cute atmosphere, friendly staff, and great food!

Food was not quite as good as I remember it. The prices were astronomical. We hadn't been there for a while, and sad to say, wont be back.

I believe you can purchase fresh seafood

From the moment you step in, you're wrapped in traditional Scottish charm, classic décor, old-fashioned and beautiful tea sets, and a sense that time has politely slowed down. Service is proper, attentive, and gracious in that old-school way that makes the whole experience feel special. The classic three-tier tea was exactly what you hope for: savory bites, warm treats, and sweet indulgences. But let's talk about the scones, because they absolutely stole the show, crisp on the outside, buttery and melt-in-your-mouth tender inside. The kind of scone that makes you pause, smile, and quietly judge all other scones you've ever had. Add to that a great bar and well-crafted cocktails, and suddenly high tea feels both elegant and celebratory. In my book, this is hands down the best place for high tea in the western suburbs -- perfect for birthdays, friendships, and moments worth savoring.

So craving their boasted chicken we go and was told at ordering no broasted chicken today Tuesday. The waiter said reason sold out THEY THINK because they sold out Monday. First the waiter did not know why (ok poor communication with the staff as to lack of availability) which to me is unacceptable for a restaurant that is a very enjoyable place to dine. If no chicken then the restaurant should place a sign on the door or let the staff know so we as a patron knows in advance. We were highly disappointed today in that respect. So let's talk goodness. We ordered potato skins they were large and filled with yumminess. I loved them so good. Then a fantastic bake French onion soup cup size. Great taste and cheesy but I really liked the breaded onion strips on top that made that soup over the top. My main dish was a grilled Rubin. Darn good with hot French fries. Like I mention a 4to5 star for food service 5 star but not pre warning costumer of a canceled dish after heavy advertising I have rated a 3. Can't wait to go back and enjoy that boasted chicken just hope it's served when on the menu. The restaurant very clean and I like the quickness of the support staff. The manager helps and goes to tables making sure everything is up to par. Maybe I am too harsh on this review but that shows how disappointed I am I was really looking forward to that delicious broasted chicken. A note to Village Squire I am happy you sold out if that was true great for business BUT the 86 communication maybe can be improved a bit more.

They also changed up their cocktail menu, and we were super excited to see they had some new summer drinks. This is definitely one of my new favorite restaurants in the area. It's perfect for special occasions and date nights. The first two times we came we sat at the bar, but we came right when they opened and were able to be seated at a table. I love the candlesticks they have lit at the tables. There's a a view of the kitchen as well. To drink, I had the Dip in the Backyard Kiddie Pool (very refreshing) and Fresa Fresca (basically a strawberry margarita and it was super refreshing and tasted like strawberry juice). For dessert, we shared the oreo carjillo. It was pretty strong to me, but it definitely tasted like Oreos and milk! To eat as an appetizer, they gave us complimentary bread and butter and we ordered the sundried tomato oil to go along with it (a must). Their bread is so soft and fresh. We also got the bone marrow (forgot to get a photo), and it was some of the best we've had!! For our entrees, we got the two pasta dishes. They called them "small plates" but it was the perfect amount of food for us with our appetizers. I had the spicy carrot rigatoni pasta and it was super fresh. I love that they cooked the pasta al dente.

We loved everything about The Graceful Ordinary from the ambience to the amazing service (thanks Karen!) to the creative cocktails to the delicious food. When we arrived at the table, there was an anniversary card from the staff. Nice touch! We were brought a loaf of the warm housemade bread with whipped butter to begin. Hubby ordered the Having a Moment bourbon cocktail, and I had the Honey Kiss vodka and elderflower cocktail. Love their creative cocktail list. Karen was a fabulous server, so attentive and friendly. The other staff was on top of everything from water being refilled to clearing dirty dishes and even fresh butter brought to the table when it was low. Our needs were met before we even needed to ask. Also, since Karen knew that we were splitting all the courses, she automatically had the food split between two plates. I liked that. We decided to split everything we ordered. We started with the smoked salmon deviled eggs which were creamy delicious, not to mention beautifully presented. Our second starter was the bone marrow with caramelized shallots. This dish was absolutely amazing. My only critique would be to put four pieces of bread on the plate went two people are sharing. Our next course was a salad and we went with the roasted beet salad with blue cheese and sunflower shoots dressed in a warm bacon vinaigrette. Bacon - need I say more? Our main course was the walleye with ricotta gnudi, fava beans, peas and wild mushrooms. So many flavors and textures going on. The fish was perfectly seared and moist. Delectable. We thought about dessert but we were so full from dinner that we passed. Karen wouldn't let us go without a complimentary dessert in honor of our anniversary to enjoy at home, their signature butterscotch pot de crème with sea salt caramel. The Graceful Ordinary certainly made our anniversary special with the anniversary card at the table, and the complementary dessert. If you're in the western Chicago burbs, I highly recommend checking this restaurant out.
