Fenwick is a large department store, located in Newcastle city centre, it's spread over five floors…read moreand is one of the anchor stores at Eldon Square Shopping Centre. Fenwick as a brand has 8 locations across the country and was founded here in Newcastle Upon Tyne. This location is their flagship. The store has entrances on street level (Northumberland Street) as well as entrances from the mall. The store is open until 7 pm on most days, although opening hours can vary, this means they're generally open an hour later than John Lewis, which is the mall's other main department store. The store is fairly attractive, with modern and older parts and the selection again is reasonable. The renovation is starting to show which is ongoing to celebrate the store's 140th anniversary. The Food Hall area reminded me a little of a smaller version of Harrods, pricey for sure but they had a variety of items appearing to be high-quality, including some meats which looked of a fantastic quality. I much prefer the technology section at John Lewis nearby, however - although Fenwick for sure wins on the Food Hall side of things. 4*

Whether it be perfumes, international foods from the food hall or homeware products Fenwicks has it all. There's a great choice of places to dine too including an American diner and Cafe 21 for those who literally like to shop until they drop. Plus what a bonus!! Every Christmas time they unveil their Christmas window (which changes each year) and flood Northumberland street with the cheery sound of Christmas music!

This is a good Marks and Spencer location, inside the Metrocentre in Gateshead. The store is fairly…read moremodern and has been refurbished recently, so the store still feels modern and fresh. It has pretty much most of what you'd expect to find from Marks and Spencer. The facilities inside the store are good and include a cafe, an optician and toilets. The Deli section did seem to be good, including freshly prepared salads, wraps and meals, but it did seem to be a little depleted later into the day. The store did appear to be a little understaffed, again this could have been due to it being the late afternoon, but it still was moderately busy on a Saturday. 4* - A nice store and a welcome addition to the shopping centre, the fact it is located right by the car park is handy too, to avoid carrying shopping around the mall.

The Cafe Revive is always busy and does a range of hot and cold snacks and cakes. There's plenty of seating available and you can sit and relax without feeling like the staff are waitign for you to hurry up and leave. It does extremely tasty toasted sandwiches! The store itself has a wide range of good quality men, women and children's clothing at affordable prices. They don't do maternity clothing. It also does home furnishings and furniture as well as household goods and some toys and gift ranges for Christmas time. It can be tricking finding a member of staff to ask about items/sizes/where to find stuff but they are helpful when located. It's a very busy, well used store.

H&M in the Bridges is my favourite branch of H&M - last time I visited the one in Newcastle they…read morewere installing new lighting and making it look 'underground' and cool I came out feeling like I had been in a sauna, so would never ever visit it again! This branch of H&M stocks all the different lines including the popular 'Divided' young trend line. They have recently change the layout of the stop so that the Divided range and childrenswear is upstairs, and the ordinary ladieswear and menswear is downstairs. I do love H&M - although I find their trousers are never really long enough for me and the sizing of all their ladieswear generally runs small, there are lots of little bargains to be had by all. The childrenswear is particularly good value, especially the packs of tops and dresses which are great for the upcoming party season. All in all H&M clothes are decent quality, stylish, wash well and not too pricey so good for those of us who wear their clothes for one season then dump them at the back of the wardrobe!

However, I do like the basics eg vest tops as they are good quality (last years) and are a great fit. I also love the accessories, I recently found a small hat with mesh, which was perfect for my Gwen Stefani fancy dress, I was so happy when I found it and have not seen anything like it anywhere else.

I've been back to this and to many other Mothercares many many times, but I still think this is by far the best. For starters, it's huge! There are two floors, with baby and nursery goods on the ground floor and older kids and toys on the mezzanine. The decor is spot-on, with lots of interesting things to keep little ones amused, and they have hit the spot with the toilets, breast-feeding areas and the likes. There's also a full Clarks footwear concession. The Team Valley retail park that it is located on is also fab - lots of shops, plenty of parking, and just inches from the A1. Well worth travelling the few miles from the Metro Centre if you're just visiting the area for a day's shopping. Mothercare as a brand is variable - generally their own-make stuff is really good quality, and there are some good prices on certain items (I got a full travel system for £110 including seat base and loads of accessories - best one I've ever had too!), but many other things are totally overpriced, and I don't know how they can stay in the market for things like baby clothes when comparable quality stuff is available in Asda or even Primark for a fraction of the price. But it's still the first port of call for most ladies of a certain condition, and I hope it always will be. It's a bit of a British institution, and deservedly so.
