As a venue, I can only give the highest of marks to the Salt Lake Hardware Building. Drop. Dead…read more Sexy. This old building has been totally and sleekly remodeled with homage to the past that respects the amazing bones of the building. One of my favorite buildings in the city. Perhaps my favorite part of the building is the rough hewn timber columns and joists that serve as the raw skeleton. Plenty of exposed brick walls also abound, and I'm completely charmed by the old spiral slide that used to shuttle manufactured goods from the upper floors all the way down. It's been preserved and gives incredible character to the space for weddings, parties, fundraisers and more. This is all coming from the point of view of an attendee; to date I've never worked with the fine folks behind the building and have only attended events in the space. They host some pretty remarkable events, so I've got to think they're on top of things. When they're not hosting events (and even when they are), the building is home to all kinds of offices from the tech to the more mundane. There's lots of parking on the north side of the building, which empties out rapidly at the end of business hours. The south side of the building is now nearly kissing a new bridge for Trax, so it's best to just turn in from the north and you can find parking further north or east. I always look forward to events at the SL Hardware Building. It's classy but still casual, convenient, and a stellar spot in SLC. Kudos to those who made the expensive decision to spruce it back up and honor the past. Well done!

For some context, I had an 11:50pm flight, but I needed to check out of my condo by 10am. What was I going to do for the entire day? I didn't want to get too sweaty but still wanted to take advantange of the weather and be outside! Red Butte Garden turned out to be the best decision. I arrived early, and took my time strolling through the gardens. I brought my book with me and took advantage of the various seating areas throughout the gardens. It was perfect to sit in the shady (and some sunny) spots. It was quiet and relaxing with a few people here and there. The gardens are so beautifully curated, but at the same time offer opportunities for more rugged/wild expereinces in the natural areas of the park. It has been one of the few arboretums that felt so welcoming, and it truly encouraged you to spend some serious time among the flowers and trees. I also noticed that there were so many people activevly working in the gardens - something I have rarely seen at other similar places (maybe because I was visiting during work hours on a weekday?) The amphiteather on site is host of a variety of concerts - this particular summer concert series looked amazing. Wish I had more time to spend out there. I highly recommend checking out Red Butte Gardents and Arboretum!!

I haven't dealt with the people behind Pierpont, but rather been to an event at Pierpont. So if I ever do plan an event here (which *ahem* I'd love to do) I'll be sure to fill in the deets from the other side. What I can say is that I really dig this space. Located on one of the most personality-filled streets in the city, it's just crawling with character. I'm unfamiliar with the history of the building, but would love to know the backstory. Now it's a beautiful, long and not so very narrow space with a high ceiling and windows all along the north end. It's not quite an industrial feel--it's nicer than all of that. But it's got a city vibe to it that's just kind of special. They host all kinds of events there. Tonight was a tasting event that showed off a simple decor, a few cocktail tables, a small raised stage, and some nice lighting. I would presume the kitchen facilities were adequate, as there were two chefs there preparing a couple small bites. The staff was great. On top of dish service, all smiles. I stuck around until after the official event hours were over, and it was fun to see the staff whip the place back into tidy shape while making plans for post-event mischief. Classy. I'm going with classy. A classy, unstuffy place to have an event.
