Exorbitant price tag to visit this part of the river. Granted the money supposedly goes into…read moreconservation and maintenance but at nearly $100/day I find this unreasonable. The facility is nice, the path down to the river is great and the staff were mostly friendly, but the special regulations and a fisherman's inability to take certain species off property when just off property NYS regulations allow otherwise seems pretty ridiculous considering the price. I will say the fishing holes are marked well and the brochure map they provide is nice. The river itself is great! I know they deepened certain holes to encourage fish to linger on property longer, but this comes at a price as well. I encountered so many other fisherman, the water itself felt pressured and fish responded to the tourism. You can still have an amazing day here and everyone should visit at least once. What they have here is really special. My only real gripe is the price, which makes it unreasonable for me to return, when a quarter mile upstream is free public water.

The DSR is the premier spot to go fishing for Salmon or Lake Run trout on the Salmon River. I have…read morevisited this place for the past 5 years. Pros: -Beautiful stretch of river -Limits on the number of people on the property -Clean and Respectful Culture -Respectful Staff -First stop for Lake Run Trout and Salmon -Close to Pulaski -Lodging and other services available Cons: -A bit pricey -Cannot keep trout nor Atlantic Salmon I cannot say enough for the culture developed by the DSR. Other than a few traditional spots up the Salmon River; this is the first stop for me on Salmon River fishing trips.

You get what you pay for at this place. We rented a pontoon boat for $180 for the day. One of the…read morecheapest places around but for a reason. The staff was really friendly but also seemed overwhelmed at times. When we got on the boat we found none of the gauges worked, including the gas gauge and speedometer, which seem pretty important for driving a boat. The ladder is only two rungs and about 9 inch wide which makes getting back onto the boat very hard and painful at times. You really need to throw yourself back on the boat if you decide to go swimming. The motor also seemed under-powered and sputtered at times if you gave it too much gas. But the biggest joke is you are apparently not allowed in the lake which we were never told about from the start. I know, right? A boat is not allowed in another connected public waterway. If you are out there some rude kid on a green jet ski will ride out to you and yell at you. I asked them back at the shop if there is someone out there guarding the lake because it seemed ridiculous and we weren't sure if this guy was even affiliated with the shop. But they dejectedly said yeah it was probably the boss' son. I can only assume they don't want you on the lake because these boats could probably break down at any moment. When I told them about the broken gauges they just told me "yeah, they're all like that". Bottom line, if you are looking to save money and rent a boat that essentially just runs this is the place for you. If you want a better experience and be allowed to go into the public lake spend the extra money and go somewhere else.

Have rented pontoon boats from this fishing sports shop on Sodus Bay a few years in a row now -…read moreeach time excellent customer service, decent boats, great value. It's a simple but well-stocked outpost. The pontoon boats hold up to 10 people and cost $100 for four hours. They're super nice and are flexible with the return times as well. Fishing on Sodus is relaxing, unpretentious and affordable. Definitely recommend this shop for an outing on the bay. Most of the fish shy away from the sun by 11:30 am, however, so you'll have to get out there early to make the most of the day.
