We have been lucky enough to put our 3 children through Extra Steps, first discovering this gem…read moreover 10 years ago. Teacher Robb made our eldest, and us, feel comfortable leaving him for the first time. Our son took a few days to get adjusted, then didn't want to leave. The 3.5 hour duration and choice between am or pm classes are such a benefit. Our daughter attended a year later and loved teacher Christa. Our youngest is now in his final year of preschool and he loves Larry and Nicole (and Christa too!). The preschool space is bright and fun, teachers take the kids to the nearby parks and/or senior centre everyday and our kids always tell us how much they enjoy/ed the school. The teachers support each child's development, offer to assist with any learning requests and instil the confidence and love of school which led to our older 2 thriving in private school kindergarten. We have recommended Extra Steps to numerous families over the years, even those who have been hesitant due to poor experiences at other schools, and they have all been so grateful for sharing this wonderful preschool with them. Kids are all treated with kindness and respect, which allows for personal development. As our time with Extra Steps will end at the close of this year, we wish to express our appreciation to the teachers for the love and support our kids have enjoyed- we really can't recommend this preschool enough. Larry and Nicole also run the most fabulous outdoor program on Saturdays, which our youngest loves and will continue to do next year.

At Extra Steps Learning, they helped him to come out of his shell and helped him improve with his personal development without judging him any different from other kids. He improves tremendously ever since he attended preschool here 5 days a week. He's now in Kindergarten and he still talks about his teachers especially Ms. Christa. I like all the educators there but my favourite one is Ms. Christa. She really helps my son to develop social and personal skills there and always treated him with kindness.

My son goes to this preschool and he absolutely loves it!…read moreI've seen many other preschools and daycares and this is one of the best so far- One of the things I love about this place is that preschooler's classes are recently updated so it's very clean, open space, has big windows from both sides, cute mini toilets & low sinks for little people. This is not a school where they 'train' kids to be super smart from early age- They believe children thrive and learn best when their interests are captured.- so kids have fun doing something they love, learn to share, do lots of activities together, celebrate both Japanese and western traditions- Teachers & staff are so nice and helpful. The school has a big gym and outside area to play, Do only japanese kids go there? not at all! more than half of his classmates are either non-Japanese or half Japanese-. So whenever they send out newsletters or have Christmas party or other parties, they conduct in both Japanese and English, super helpful! I love when they have charity parties- kids (and teachers & volunteers) make cute stuff and sell them like your kid's picture in christmas frame or bubble bath bombs etc.. Another cool event is that twice a year, they have Bazaar and their foods are amazing. All handmade and cooked by kitchen stuff and volunteers but they make amazing Japanese foods that I couldn't believe when I went there for the first time- ( and it's open to public too!) I was expecting some sushis, teriyaki chicken, udons.. those typical japanese stuff, and of course they have those, but on top of them they have Matsutake rice ! ( for fall ) Kyoto style wrapped sushi, amazing variety of Mochi-es, handroll sushi, etc. etc.. you just have to go there to believe it! ( * I posted same thing on 'Vancouver Japanese Language School and Japanese Hall'-they're in the same building!)

Light-filled happy classrooms, enclosed outdoor playground, 5000 sq foot community hall for rainy days, solar panels, and refurbished original 1928 fir flooring. Truly a home away from home. You never really feel confident they have your cheques or you are getting the right information for the month. The location is great, materials provided to the kids is great, the teachers are...fine. My kids learned stuff, but in the past year were not happy about going. We did end up pulling my kids out due to some incidents, but the licensing office at VCH was following up with them. They aren't abusive or anything, they just aren't great either. So they get 3 stars. 1 for the location, 2 for the stuff the kids learn, and 3 for the materials they use. The staff and the administration and communication with parents needs improvement We have since moved to a new preschool and realize just how unhappy the kids were here and how unprofessionally managed the place was.

Our first child was admitted to a top private school in Vancouver from Cambie Montessori and our second will join them there in September 2021. We have experienced none of the issues outlined in the first review listed on yelp. I have returned to this site to write this review after being puzzled for months since reading the first review. The administration and teachers have been responsive to all of our questions and concerns. The facilities are excellent. Our children are happy and received a good Montessori education. I am happy to recommend Cambie Montessori to anyone.
