Then for lunch we had grilled sandwiches and soup (I had a chicken wild rice that was so delicious) along with a cookie. During our lunch we had the option of taking a guided tour of the home. There is so much history in this renovated home with original furnishings and decor. And the views of the property are amazing. For the meeting, the technology worked great to have our remote participants feel engaged as they could see us and each of us in the room had a mutable microphone. Looking back, I can recall going there as a young child, to include spending time with my two best friends from junior high screwing around and trying not laugh to loud. First off, I was amazed at the renovation that was strewn upon the original building, especially the expansion. The new addition definitely makes a lasting impression on any onlookers. In addition, they have also included a conference room, which anyone can reserve. The place is clean, well organized, and in immaculate condition. There are gender specific restrooms that are very clean. There are also public computers to utilize. One can print there, but it costs 15 cents, per sheet of paper. There's a children's section, with tables for them to read. Parking is ample and there is also handicapped parking too. One must have a library card in order to access the amenities there. This library does have summer & fall/winter hours. I'm very happy to see my hometown put a valid investment into this library, and more importantly, into the people of St. Charles.

The marker reads, "Minnesota's doctors and the institutions they built have played a distinguished role in the medical revolution of the past 150 years. Both the Mayo Clinic and the University of Minnesota Medical School have pioneered treatment techniques that have brought patients and students from around the world to their doors." It continues, "Dr. William W. Mayo and his two sons, William J. (Dr. Will) and Charles H. (Dr. Charlie) Mayo, working at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, achieved notable success in the new field of surgery during the 1890s. As the sons' skills grew, their practice expanded, until by 1904 the two doctors were operating on over 3,000 patients each year. New laboratories, improved medical record keeping, advanced training for physicians in many specialties, and quality medical diagnosis and care in well-equipped modern hospitals followed, bringing the Mayo Clinic a worldwide and still growing reputation." Finally, "Benefiting from cooperation and competition with the Clinic, the University of Minnesota Medical School in Minneapolis earned its own national reputation. Dr. Charles N. Hewitt, of Red Wing, who led early efforts to conquer typhoid, smallpox, and other deadly infectious diseases by means of vaccination and sanitation regulations, was a regular public health lecturer at the University. I was in business for myself for awhile and also worked in business marketing in this community and although it does cost money to join the chamber and also to be involved in other arms of the organization I would say that if you are active and network there are many offerings and it is worth the investment. During my involvement I was active with Toastmasters that were all chamber members...Diplomats, which is a ribbon cutting and welcoming to new business committee, and also they have a Greater Leadership Rochester Program that you can join and you are in a class that meets monthly during the year and you learn various things about the community during this time and work on one big final project. I thought this was wonderful and helpful.. Most of my class have gone on to get huge promotions or opened up other doors to a better employment situation. This is a well organized and active group.

This location has been here forever and is good alternate to making the trek over to the main po on the other end of town. I never thought I'd give the Post Office anything more than a "meh" but this location has been much more than expected every time I've visited. The employees have been consistently friendly and I've been able to get in and out quickly. It doesn't have the automatic postal machine that some of the newer locations do, but for a quick trip, where you avoid the crowds and lines, this spot works well.
