The reason we had to transfer our son from his previous program was there was no actual program, it was all play, no foundation for learning, & he just ends up exhausted from the 'play-time' that he was getting. We transitioned him without hesitation & with the help of Ms. Prema & her staff, they saw the potential & weakness of my son, they started him with an individualized plan to make him a better student. He has progressed dramatically since he begun with Reading, Math, Homework, & advanced study to prepare him better. They are very patient & always communicate with us in every step of the way. School year just ended, my sons teacher saw the tremendous improvement over-all with his skills & his learning habits, and we give a big portion of credit to Ms. Prema & her team! We are grateful & satisfied with the patience, hard-work, & dedication of her team! Also, one of the positive side is they offer to pick-up your child from school to the montessori, which is a huge plus so we don't have to worry about getting to one place to the other. My 6 year old daughter came home every day telling me how the "teachers" yell at the kids and say things such as "deal with it", and "that's not my problem". Now I don't even speak to my child that way. Another incident was my daughter told me that one of the "teachers" grabbed her arm and told her to throw her trash away. Totally unacceptable. How about I grab one of them?! Though they were fully staffed, they staff all seemed very young and inexperienced. Each day I went to pick up my daughter, I could never find her. The staff did not know who she was (mind you she was probably one of the few children there without a chinese last name- and my daughter is half chinese). The posted "schedule" was never correct so it would usually take me 10 minutes or so to locate my child. I was frazzled each time thinking she was kidnapped or lost (the facility is located at a church which is wide open to the parking lot and a main street). After dealing with the director and her assistant, I was even more displeased at how unprofessional and uncaring they were about the situation when I explained why we were leaving. They basically did not care and their attitude proved it. If you read my other reviews, you'll see that I mostly post when I'm happy, but seeing that nobody else commented about this place I feel like I would be doing a disservice by not sharing my bad experience. This place is a church hosting a summer program. Don't let it fool you.

My kids have been attending FECC since age 3 and here is like their second home now, with caring and dedicated teachers at all class levels providing structured playing and learning activities such that they were well-prepped for kindergarten/1st grade when they graduated! During covid they are also one of the few places that enforces strict masking policy at all times, class size limit and routine sanitization so we feel more reassured sending our kids there. Thanks to FECC Children Academy that my kids are still able to enjoy school life despite the pandemic :)

So far he has been here one year, but the staff is so helpful and always kept an eye out for my child. His teacher was able to guide him with reading at about 3rd grade level. We thrive to keep going and always learning more, but it was refreshing to see such passionate and loving staff.

Can anybody believe that after I voice my thoughts about the secretary that works in the front office of Kennedy stem Academy . My son, a child that is in special needs was kick out of the school 3 months before the school year is over. When he attended the school we lived in Cerritos which made Kennedy his home school. Obviously we proved he lived there when we first enrolled by bringing all the necessary documents needed. We then moved to Lakewood but because he was already half why though the school year we decided to finish it out. I mean nobody would want to switch their child in the middle of the school year especially if the child can have issues with having such a big change. We got a letter that said we have notice that you no longer stay in the address in our system and that a staff member (Evelyn) went to the address to confirm hahahahahaha No principle would have did it .. the teacher loved my son she definitely didn't do it. Who could have access to all this information address etc ! How about the office secretary!!! This woman who looks as if she has no life outside of the school . No husband no kids no one to love her push hard to get a 5 year old kid out the school It has to be an evil agenda behind it because why let the whole school year go by in with 3 months left all off a sudden notice the address change . Who go to ppl homes to check but a bitter (female dog) her new name should be BOB FOR BITTER OLD B!!!! And I attribute that to the extra time he spends at Kumon. And it's only been a couple of months!! His penmanship is getting better and more legible. He answers math questions quicker, he's able to blend word and write multiple sentences about a singular topic. He's reading words that I didn't even know he knew. He enjoys the kumon workbooks for the most part and is excited to do them (but it could be because it's part of his "chore" list). He enjoys the challenge of being able to finish the booklets "faster" each time. At first when we began, he was doing both math and reading/writing with 10-page booklets. But honestly, it was a lot for my lil kinder guy especially after a long day of school and activities. After speaking with Mr. Michael, he suggested cutting the workload to either just one subject or fewer number of pages. I chose the latter to ensure that both topics were covered still and I've seen major improvements on willingness to complete the books, excitement to do the work and satisfaction of doing a job well done. The little rewards they have in the center also are a cute incentive. The kids are given kumon dollars to earn towards little prizes. It's adorable to see the kids count their money and decide if they want to spend now or save for a bigger item. Great way to teach a child about the value of a dollar, delayed vs instant gratification, and smart spend habits. I've seen a mix of kids who go "shopping" with the few kumon dollars they've earned and get small items and I've seen many save up for the bigger prizes. Ms. Mindy is incredibly sweet but stern at the same time. No push-over there and she can turn whining of "I don't knows" into smiles of "I know it!!!" almost magically! (I gotta learn that trick!!!) The center is open Mondays and Thursdays starting at 230pm. Depending on workload, kids finish up their in-class work in average of 45minutes. They are also assigned homework to complete when at home. Some parents like to sit there and wait in the small front entrance or in their cars, but Starbucks, albertsons, dollar tree, Ross, marshalls, Home Depot and a bunch of other stores are nearby for a quick shopping trip. So convenient. I never understood why anyone would want to sit in their car for 45 minutes. If my son gets done early, he calls me on the center's phone and Mr. Michael never lets anyone out unless he sees parent. It's amazing that he can he remember all the kids and all the parents...by first and last name!! I think one of the best advice I got so far from Mr. Michael and Ms. Mindy was if my kiddo doesn't finish the work at home, it IS okay. Pushing him too hard will just discourage him and he will not enjoy kumon. They can always move the work to the next day. The important thing is that my kiddo goes at his own pace which will allow him to continue to enjoy the work and succeed. Can't wait to see how this year progresses!!!
