When you attempt to have an adult conversation about your feelings, she loses her ability to think rationally and asserts her dominance once again. She attempts to micromanage every situation even when she isn't present. There were several situations where she would spit off emails or call before she had all the facts, accusing and pointing fingers. She, however, would not come back and apologize or admit that she leaped before having the facts, afterwards. It eventually got to the point where she was twisting facts and blowing molehills into mountains with untrue statements. She was pushing us to medicate our child when our pediatrician strongly discouraged medicating at that time. The teachers were too passive to set strict boundaries, and they seemed to cower to the owner and allow her to control and micromanage a classroom they were in charge of. The owner made accusatory statements that, when I would speak with other parents, didn't seem true at all. We are not saying that our child was perfect in any way, and he definitely needed some more guidance and stricter boundaries; however, the way things played out here was very disheartening. We even went as far as to have a behavior specialist come in to observe for an IBHS support person; which they requested. I attempted to have a discussion with the owner about feelings towards my child, which is what ultimately ended our time here. She went ballistic instead of being professional and reassuring. It was such a hit to her ego, and she couldn't take it or someone standing up to her false accusations. There was no professional adult conversation, just finger-pointing and blocking. Our son didn't have these types of behaviors in the school before or after this school. He is doing great now in a new school. The behavior consultant discussed what she saw when she observed, and a lot of it was boundary pushing and allowing him to get his way, instead of setting clear boundaries and consequences to teach him, it seemed to be all over the place. Lots of reminders with no consequences, allowing him to get what he wanted, which would reinforce the poor behavior, them being frustrated, and eventually just a target on his back. Again, not that these behaviors were acceptable, but they weren't what was being made out either after speaking to the behavior consultant and piecing things together on our own. I also went in to observe one day. No behaviors but saw him being kicked. When he kicked back, he got caught and in trouble. His new school said they also don't understand because they don't see the behaviors that this owner was saying he had. If you have a very calm, timid, robot-like child, this will be a great fit. However, if you have a rambunctious child with ADHD who goes against the grain at times and wants to be moving, this is 100% not the right fit. The day I observed, they were expected to sit for 25 min doing carpet time. That's a long time for a 4-year-old, let alone a 4-year-old boy who has ADHD. They do wonderful activities there, which is why my son loved it, but there was lots of sitting and expectations of standing still, straight lines, chair work, and not enough strict follow-through. Like I mentioned above, if you have a quiet, calm, timid child, this place is great. If you have a typical hyper, rowdy, strong-willed child, I would find a place better fit because StemSteps cannot and will not be a good fit for your child. I suggest reading the book Raising Lions for this school and some training in consistent follow through, rule setting, consequences and behavior management.

Stemsteps has the best teachers/atmosphere that actually care about kids (not just keep them alive), provide great exposure to veggies at meal times, and give him a variety of experiences to meet his milestones. My son has been attending since 8 months and I wouldn't take him anywhere else. He's very excited at drop off and loves his teachers.

They are such genuine, sweet, kind hearted people who bend over backwards to ensure these children get the best education and receive the love and nurturing they deserve. From the beginning their communication has always been TOP NOTCH! Not only do they communicate with you through calls, texts, but they even give the classes a Facebook page that not only helps you communicate with them but helps the parents build a community to share things, help each other out, etc. I know this year was a transition year as Colleen just purchased the preschool and I must say I heard a couple of parents who were with the school prior to Colleen make not so nice comments about her or the school and I just don't understand how. I don't know how the school was operated prior to this year but I personally can't see how it could have been any better. These teachers plan so many events for the kids such as parties (Halloween, Thanksgiving Feast, Christmas, Valentine's Day, Easter, etc.), 2 Field Trips, a Class Picnic, and so much more! They truly give their heart and soul to these kids and for what the preschool costs compared to others; they don't stand to make much of anything which tells you just how much they do this from the heart. If you are looking for a preschool for your toddlers, I can't even express how HIGHLY I recommend this school and the team of teachers to all parents out there. They are by far the best and I've already cried twice knowing that this school year is coming to an end, and I am halfway through my time with them.

I can't thank these three teachers enough for how much they have taught my kids and got them both ready to start kindergarten! This is the best preschool ever!

The teachers all have many, many years of experience, combined with boundless energy, enthusiasm, a love of learning, and love for children. Many of the teachers have advanced degrees, and they're clearly not there teaching for the little bit of money they earn -- they're there because they love to teach. The teachers are simply amazing and gifted. The building is small, but they make the most of it. They offer a Lunch Bunch class for 2-yr olds with a parent that meets once per week for a few weeks in the Fall and Spring, a 3-yr old class on Tues & Thurs AM or PM, a 4-yr old class on Mon, Wed, & Fri AM or PM, and a Mon-Thurs Pre-K class in AM for 5-yr olds. They emphasize hands-on, sensory-based learning through music, movement, stories, arts, science experiments, learning centers during free-play time, poetry, reading, pre-writing and many special projects, field trips, and guest teachers that you'd normally expect to find only in an expensive, private preschool. It reminds a little of the Montessori teaching style. It's also a very diverse place with students from all over the world and they welcome children with a variety of learning disabilities and developmental delays as well. It's a very accepting place. Unfortunately, the building is not handicap accessible for those in wheelchairs or walkers -- all students must be able to walk up and down stairs. Both of my children went here, each for three years and I can't say enough good things about it. My youngest child is finishing his last year at My School this month, and I'll be a little sad not being there in the future. It's a wonderful, fun, and nurturing place.

Months later I was asked to prove my son had a disability, odd as the request was I provided the owner all documentation showing his diagnoses. Around that time I noticed my son kept coming home in dirty pull ups over and over, I kept asking the staff why he was coming home dirty and if my child needs more pull ups and was given the run around rudely by staff until I called the owner directly. She told me she has NEVER changed my son (Violation Code: 53.3270.135e) because he was a school aged child and she didn't change school aged children. I pointed out we talked about this before I even enrolled my son, I told her I would never have put him here if I knew she was going to say one thing and do another. I pointed out his disability again, that he has an IEP at school to help him with toilet accidents and asked how she could let a disabled child just sit in his own filth that way. Her response was first to say she had no where to change him, I pointed out the baby room was right up the steps, she then said if I wanted my son changed she would hire someone specific for that job and charge me extra. WOW, who behaves like that? ! Obviously I removed my child right away after she blatantly admitted to neglect. This place should be shut down, the owner does not know how to care for children properly let alone run a childcare center SHAME ON YOU!!!
