LONG VERSION: I'll give the full picture with nothing exaggerated so you can decide for yourself. First, maybe it matters maybe it doesn't -- I'm a 40-year-old Asian man, Electrical Engineer with tattoos, working at a FAANG company. I don't look anything like the typical people who might pass by. My family comes to Winthrop annually during the long Juneteenth weekend and there are no Tesla charging stations around. I stopped to charge my car here at East 20 Pizza (LAW: if you pay to charge, you are a patron of the station and do not have to pay to eat at the business to leave your car) but felt guilty about taking a spot on a very slow charger -- I'm at 40% and it said 7-hour charge time. I went in and asked if I'm a customer, can I leave my car for about 3 hours. They said no and mostly tried to kick me out of the spot. After talking to about 4 different people who were unsure, there was one guy that was reasonable and he decided I could stay. I ordered a beer and the biggest 16" pizza they have to make sure they understood I was a customer. I sat outside and the same old lady who didn't want my car there came out and told me she has 4 people looking for a table. I said okay, that's reasonable -- if you need the spots then I'll move. She sits me inside in front of the cash register. Someone else walks in and says she wants to sit outside. They said "of course, there are plenty of spots" -- and there was a section completely empty. So I said hey, can I come along? If there are more spots then I'm not sure why I'm sitting here. We get out there and the entire section was completely empty -- at least 18 seats. I figured this should be empty enough for me to have a beer and a slice or two, then take the rest to my family. Maybe 10 minutes in, the old lady sees me and says hey, we're expecting to get busy, and if my food is to-go then I'm going to have to move. Again. Mind you, there were open tables all around me. She said "I think your pizza is done, you can just go get it." I said it's not to-go -- I have a beer right here and I'm eating the pizza here -- but I've been moved multiple times in a short period. I can catch a hint. I go to the front and cash out. (Thinking back, I automatically hit at least 20% tip out of habit -- I'm kind of sad I still did that.) After I paid, I asked for my pizza and when they went to check, they said it wasn't even ready yet. After waiting a little longer, I didn't want to make a scene over the way I was feeling, so I politely said: "When my pizza is ready, there's a family of 4 in the back corner -- can you please just give it to them?" It was within walking distance of my hotel and I could smell the pizza wafting through the air..... Great pizza. I got the "Papa Dan", which is their meat-heavy pie. You can get it in various sizes. I got the 8 inch, which was perfect for just one person. They have a nice tap list. Not the biggest I've seen but they have a good mix of local brews and the standards. This was good pizza, if cooked enough... They are generous on their toppings, lots of fresh ingredients. The restaurant had some nice employees and a few not so much. We ordered a Caesar salad the romaine was turning brown. We got our pizza and it wasn't cooked all the way still doughy! They replaced it with a done pizza, which was good! We felt that the staff started to treat us differently after complaining. It is never a good feeling eating at an establishment, and treated that way. We arrived during happy hour so we had to order some discount breadsticks. We also ordered a 16 inch pizza half Bellamini with bacon and half Sweet n Spicy Sausage. I found the sweet n spicy pizza to be more spicy with little to no sweet. It was good but unexpected. Between the two my favorite was the Bellamini. But I think the real winner are the breadsticks. We've driven past East 20 for years but never had the chance to stop in and enjoy their pizza until now! It was well worth the wait! Service was great, wish I would have gotten her name, she deserves a shout out! They were completely packed on a Wednesday night and she was just lovely. Stopped long enough to chat, never seemed too rushed to enjoy our company and stayed on top of everything. We ordered a couple beers that came out ice cold and quick and two 12" pizzas so we could have breakfast in the morning! The pizzas are delicious! We both got pizzas with peppers on them so we had a spicy experience! I added pepperoni to mine and it's put on top of the main ingredients so it got a little toasty and delicious, it really brought out the flavor! Nom nom nom! I accidentally ended up in Winthrop for the second weekend in a row (don't ask!) with pizza cravings in tow. My local friend recommended East 20 and it really hit the pizza spot for sure. We started with a couple of beers. LOVED that they had some classic local craft brews on tap. Then we moved on to a large half-and-half pizza. The first half was their Thai (with the spicy cashews on top) and the second was their Puttanesca. Both were good but the Thai was exceptional. Topped with massaman curry sauce, mozzarella, basil, chicken, red bell pepper, peanuts, spicy pineapple, white onion, and fresh cilantro. It was spicy and delish. I would definitely order this again! The Puttanesca, which we ordered with sausage, featured red sauce, mozzarella, capers, pepperoncinis, black and green olives, tomatoes, and garlic. It was definitely tasty but if I got it again I'd order it with extra sauce, as it seemed a bit try. The pizza is saucy- just fyi- it works, but if you don't like a lot of sauce, you might want to ask for light sauce. I LOVE that they have a rotating cider tap along with a rotating beer tap! It had been a while since we've stopped in and the porch upgrades with all the heat lamps and fire pits look really good and they still have indoor seating as well. Great super unique pizzas. And a very charming atmosphere with fun patio with mini fires of the propane type. This spot has rotating draft beers and wine and bottles and cans of beer. They have calzones and pizzas and salads. We started off with the spinach Greek salad and it was excellent. Lots of feta cheese and some thinly sliced I'm going to guess parmesan on a nice bed of spinach with a couple tomatoes. Are pizza was the other meatball with a white sauce instead of a tomato sauce. We added bacon just to be silly. It is an excellent pizza with tons of flavor and their crust is outstanding.. Apparently they make homemade desserts which we didn't save enough room for since we scarfed down an entire pizza and a salad and beers. We were not able to dine-in at the most recent visit but the takeout process was fast and easy. Called to order and pizza was ready in 15 min. Pizzas are generously sized, reasonably priced, and heaped with toppings. Our go-to order is the Margherita pizza (garlicky!) and Spinach Salad.
