It all started with me looking for an alternative to trader joe's meat pies for all the times I don't want to have to deal with trader joe's checkout line made of meat people. I got to googling. Enter, these pies. They are small but, they are buttery and mighty! Spousie is a devotee of the steak and ale pie. I think the lamb pie has been my favorite so far. The cajun pie, imo, wasn't much to write home about but it was warm and comforting with all the rain we've had going on. We continue to try every pie for local delivery that comes on offer. I am not always kind in my reviews. But-these pies have been good to me over the course of the past couple of years, and they deserve my recognition. I've thoroughly enjoyed the ones that I've tried. I'm usually too busy enjoying them to worry about what each kind is called- but the chocolate Pecan, the Chicken Tikka Masala, and the Jamaican Beef stood out as some of my favorites. Consistently tasty, perfectly portioned, and easy to work with. This company has found a formula that works, and sells a variety that pleases. I read about the East Bay Pie Company in the May 24th edition of Berkeleyside Nosh and was intrigued by it. They deliver to my door on Saturdays between 10:30 and 1:00. I left my front door open and a little before 1:00 a man was there w/ a sealed box of frozen pies. I asked him about the spice level and he paused, then told me the beef and chicken pies had the highest spice level, but they weren't that spicy and the spiced potato wasn't very spicy at all. I appreciated the thoughtful specificity of his answer. It may have been Rahul Dharod, one of the owners, although I can't be sure because he was masked. I opened the box and transferred all the pies to a Ziploc slider bag and put them in the freezer. I cooked the beef one for dinner last night, augmented w/ a baked yam and steamed asparagus. It was tasty and not too spicy, as he described. I liked the single serving size. The only thing I didn't like was that the crust was too buttery for me. In the article they mention the high ratio of butter and I would prefer a lower ratio. They are not pies I could eat often. I will have to space them out over time. I'm looking forward to trying the other flavors, all of which sound interesting. They give good cooking directions on a card offering a discount on the next order. Oh my goodness. These pies are too good to be true!! I bought them for the first time at the West Oakland Farmers Market last Sunday. They were so delicious when I baked them at home that same day, I immediately got online and ordered more. I have only had the savory, I'm guessing what ever sweat there are are just as yummy. Hands down the best pies I have ever eaten! I've been a patron of East Bat Pie Co. ever since I discovered them and cannot stop praising them every single time I get a pie fix. They have the best pies, amazing variety and the size make it easy to not feel guilty for the pie-tastic indulgence. I have ordered both catering orders as well as small orders and the service, flexibility and flavors have been perfect every single time! I always have a few frozen on hand so that I can pop them into the oven for a quick meal. I can usually eat about 1 and a half pies in 1 sitting- so I always heat different 2 pies and savor every delicious bite. My toddler picks clean whatever I let her as well. My favorite pie is the chocolate maple (my sweet tooth) and being a vegetarian - I love the paneer tikka and potato pie. The flavors are incredible. This has become our go-to, delicious, super convenient meal when we don't feel like cooking. These pies are the perfect size for a hearty meal, and they are so tasty! The pastry is beautifully flaky. I've tried most of them, and my favorites are the Chicken Tikka Masala, and the Beef and Stout pies. These little pies are great. I have had both the sweet and the savory version, even served the apple and pumpkin versions at my Thanksgiving and people loved them! One note, I was having a little trouble at first getting the crust crispy and not burnt. Then I bought an oven thermometer and found out my oven temp was off by almost 50 degrees (too high!). But if cooked according to their directions, they come out perfect! Just let them cool - they come out piping hot! read more

So much better than anything you can get at the store! Thin, flaky crust, great fillings. The beef and stout has lots of steak in a tasty but light sauce. Don't miss the apple pie - again - nice flaky crust, lots of apples. Spicing is very yummy - different from the standard apple pie spice. Want a fancy dessert? - just get some quality vanilla ice cream to top the apple pie, and you will impress! And here is a cheat, you can cook up an extra pie or two, put in the fridge, and reheat in your toaster over (400 degrees for 8-10 minutes in my oven). Almost better than right out of the freezer since the sauce soaks a little into the pie crust. I can verify they last at least 5 days in the fridge (couldn't wait longer to finish). Those are the only pies I have tried so far, but my lastest delivery includes reorders of both of the above and 2 new flavors to try. read more

These are great little pot pies. The flavors they have are wonderful. We have tried all of them and so far we love them all. The new Saffron Apple pie IS a WINNER!! We hope they keep the Apple pie and the Spiced pumpkin pie all winter or on their regular menu. My husband's favorite is the Chicken Tikka Marsala. These pies are incredible! I live in San Jose and first found them at The Market on Embarcadero in Palo Alto when visiting my parents. My favorite so far is the Mushroom Cheddar Knish. My daughter's favorite is the Paneer Tikka Masala. The crust is unbelievably good, moist, flaky - delicious. The chocolate Maple Pecan makes a perfect desert for two. I decided to try them when a friend told me about it. OMG. LOVE! I got two of everything they had at the time so me and my husband can "taste test" them all. Not disappointed. When they started the dessert line....yup. Had to try. Now they have berry so I am going to order some of that to try too. My favorite is either of the Tikka masalas (chicken or cheese).
