The beer is cheap, the atmosphere is relaxed...and there is even a large patio garden on a sunny day. The good thing is that Harts is suited to anyone. During the day its fairly quiet and people can play pool, the I.t Box or simply play music on the jukebox. The staff are friendly and laid back, not surprising seen as they are students too. In the evening Harts is usually busy. Whether its acoustic night, quiz nite, fubar or pleasuredome - there will always be students. The good thing is, its always a relaxed and fun atmosphere. When the smoking ban came in Harts bar decided to have a refurb. Nothing too over the top, but it did result in a cleaner and more crisp Harts bar. nothing fancy. Just nice. On a weds and frid nite Harts will be rammed. You may also be asked to show your student card or pay 50p entrance if you do not have one. This is simply because Dome is the biggest clubnight on a friday in Oxford and they like to make sure that its mainly students enjoying their own su. So its a good thing. Its not too big on the inside as it can get pretty crowded, usally combined with an intense heat and sweaty people. Therefore I prefer to spend my night elsewhere, but ofcourse, I know lots whod love the place. Once been there when Jordan (aka Katie Price) came to visit, and made a group of guys strip in front of the audience. Lots of fun! Although, as you can understand, most of the crowd where guys..only having eye for Jordan, waiting for her to show off her bodyparts, instead of the naked guys on stage...

DJ's are hit and miss and the place isn't huge compared to the Bridge or Park End, but it's fun and has a god atmosphere. Monday nights at OFS is 'Flirt', a gay night. So if you are not of that persuasion head over to one of the other student nights!

I particularly recommend the caramalised onion and goats cheese tart - it's great as a starter or just as a light lunch. You can get lunch here for £4-£10, ranging from baguettes to main courses. They have a good 'rapid lunch' deal for a fiver, where you get a baguette with salad, chips or soup (chips, chips, chips!). Dinner has similar starters but fancier main courses (£9-£16) and some swanky puddings. I actually prefer simple puddings that work, but they are impressive here: my favourite menu description in a long time: Orange and Amaretto parfait with a chocolate tweel. Just what is a chocolate tweel?! Sounds very exciting The service is good and the staff are friendly. The atmosphere isn't quite as cosy as more traditional restaurants, but the contemporary chairs are worth a goggle.

There are seats around the edge of the downstairs area which leaves a dance floor space for 30/40 people comfortably. So while upstairs and downstairs can be used for different things it turns out that if you are upstairs and don't like the must that is being played upstairs it's tough really as the music system is one and the same for both areas!! The bar downstairs is small and doesn't comfortably accommodate two bar staff never mind once people start ordering cocktails the delay becomes inevitable! You can go to the otheer bar but if it's busy then you will have a wait for your drinks. I liked the venue but as it's a cocktail bar service is a bit slow. The other issue is that the music sounded better upstairs than downstairs!!

What I found strange, is that they had a DJ who was playing very loudly, so we had to shout at each other - and if I remember correct playing loud music is against covid regulations, precisely for the reason of eliminating the need for people to breath on each other while shouting.

However, this was the FIRST pub I decided to visit on my first night in Oxford and it certainly wasn't the last. It has a GREAT selection of beers that changes often and a great friendly staff. The atmosphere is unique. Definitely a place where the locals hang out. This is down the street on James Street, so definitely a neighborhood pub that could be overlooked when you are walking along Cowley. I recommend checking it out. I have become known here and feel like a local myself! At my last visit, the bartenders and friends had a hose fight, even running into the flat spraying water inside. So this tells you a lot about the atmosphere.
