Seeing the East Side Gallery was one of the highlights of my trip to Berlin. I loved seeing the work of all the different artists. I highly recommend reading up on the history of the gallery in advance. Knowing some of the background of some of the murals made the experience much more interesting. read more

Very special place, the artists on the Berlin Wall did so a good job. Perfect when the weather is good since it's an open-air gallery (actually the biggest in the world). It is also good to lie in the sun on the river banks to rest after the long walk along the wall. In the nearby there is also a beautiful ancient bridge. I'm an expat and have been here not for long but this is definitely my favourite place in Berlin. read more

It's definitely worth a visit, and it's an incredible idea. But I was underwhelmed by the art; I feel like the fact that it was an organized project detracted from the artists' work, somehow. It was a little too tame. That being said, it's a huge section of the old wall, it's free, and it's a lovely stroll, so I guess that's ok! read more

Fascinating place in a rough area of town. Lots of beggars, marijuana smell, and trash. It smells like piss in every corner. The wall itself is interesting and beautiful, it's just there is not much explanation of anything. read more

I visited the wall with my two college-aged children. The wall did not have the impact from a historical standpoint with them as it was to me, but it was very interesting. The art was amazing - from the historical sections to very new, zentangle-styled sections and more. Before we left for Germany many posts I read talked about fencing around the sections and such - we saw none of that. Every section you could walk right up to and enjoy. There really isn't a good place to park, it is just street parking mostly. We ended up down a side street and found curbside parking. At this point it was close to 6pm, so maybe that made it easier to find parking? Not sure. There were people visiting the wall when we were, but except for the section with the kissing men, it was easy to get a picture of the wall without other people in it. Even the kissing men section, we took turns and managed to get a photo. Definitely stop and see this! read more

the artwork is sublime, filled with rich messages, feelings & thoughts. the restoration to bring the original works back while mixing it with new artists is a great idea, & i hope future generations appreciate it. you can get your passport stamped while there, with the old east berlin stamp (this can also be done at other spots in berlin - the gate or checkpoint charlie). though while checking it out & taking pictures, be sure to remember about the bike lane. you will get run over & hit if you are in it. read more

It's so neat to see the all the different art pieces by various artist around the world on some of the last remaining pieces of the Berlin Wall. You have to stop by here! Best thing is that it's a free attraction :). read more

This was definitely one of the more prominent emotional experiences. Learning the history of the Berlin wall and looking at the pictures and peoples stories definitely brought up some emotions that are truly unimaginable. This wall separated families for decades and it's coming down was truly a victory for the world. I highly recommend a visit here. read more

Amazing place where you can still see the Berlin wall. Of course today not with barb wires, mine fields and other features used in that time. Today it´s more about art and some graffiti are just awesome. Definitely must see place. read more

If you're in Berlin, you must visit the East Side Gallery! It's amazing to view such beautiful artwork on a wall that brought so much pain and suffering. Great place. Get off at Berlin Ostbahnhof to start at one end and then just walk and soak in the history. It's quite beautiful and just really humbling and powerful to see these works of liberated art on something that was once construed as oppression. It's free, it's beautiful, and it's very much worth the trip. Yes, there was graffiti on a lot of it which sucked, but that doesn't make the place any less awesome. read more

One of my absolute favorite things we did while in Berlin this summer! This "gallery" is a little removed from other historic sites and attractions, but it is well worth the detour! It is a fascinating reflection of the tension between Fascism and capitalism during WWII and how the population responded through art. It is a collection of murals painted along what once was the Berlin wall. Fascinating, and eclectic, this stretch of artwork symbolizes a movement in history. read more

THE Wall and great street art, much with awesome political messages all at the same time!

I love Berlin. It's a fascinating City. Both times I visited, I left wanting more. There is so much to see in Berlin and you're inevitably going to see a lot of the Berlin Wall (if gift shops if not during your sight seeing). The East Side Gallery, however, tops my list. The artwork is both thought-provoking and amazing. It's also a great walk and doesn't strain the wallets of us budget travelers. Don't miss it. read more

If you go to Berlin and do not come see this amazing piece of world history, you are crazy. The artwork is awesome and what it symbolizes is more than one can put into words! It takes a little effort and walking to get here but I wasn't hard. The hostel I stayed in gave me very easy directions using the trains and walking across the bridge. I walked the entire distance and was moved by several of the paintings! read more

Is a must see for 1st timers to Berlin. Is an amazing walk along the 1km + stretch of wall. The artwork is amazing.

Berlin's largest surviving stretch of the Wall, turned into an open street gallery. Among the city's must-visit tourist sights.

Obviously one of the main reasons to visit Berlin is to see the wall and learn about the troubled history of this city. They recently, and heartbreakingly, painted over the John Lennon wall, however much of the graffiti and paintings on the main wall walk still remain and is very impressive to look at. Almost every painting has some form of social commentary if you look for it. It's a beautiful reminder to all the city has been through and there are some great spots to take photos along the wall too. I feel it's important to see as a way of recognising and understanding history. There are unpainted sections of the wall around the city too which are equally important to see. read more

Without a doubt, the East Side Gallery has to be one of the top places to visit in Berlin. This 1.3km open air gallery is the longest remaining section of the Berlin Wall that is dedicated to murals about freedom and love created by international artists. It was amazing to leisurely stroll along the wall when we visited in December. Each and every panel differed from each other and really evoked the sentiments of the separation of East and West as well as the time after the Berlin Wall was demolished. Unfortunately, due to vandalism many artworks, especially iconic murals like My God, Help Me to Survive This Deadly Love by Dmitri Vrubel, were barricaded by metal fences which proved to be a distraction from the artwork it was protecting. Nonetheless, it was an amazing and memorable visit. The closest station to the East Side Gallery is Warschauer Strasse, from there you'll have to walk towards the Spree River, it's not hard to find, given that you've turned left when exiting the station. Although there are hardly any signs, the East Side Gallery is a major tourist spot so you'll generally see groups of people milling about, making it easy to find. The wall ends conveniently in front of the main station Ostbahnhof, making the East Side Gallery easily accessible. You could also walk along the gallery the other way, starting from Ostbahnhof and towards Warschauer Strasse. read more

Last week I had the opportunity with my german language school DeutschAkademie to visit the East side Gallery. This is one of the most important places someone should visit in Berlin. The East Side Gallery represents the east side of Berlin's wall.. Many artists from all over the world have their paintings on this Gallery. However most of them are damaged from graffiti and some are so badly damaged that is you can hardly understand what the painting represents.. Behind the wall is the river and is really beautiful.. Walking beside the wall bring you this awful feeling of people being tortured for so many years on the one side of the wall.. It is really a weird feeling.. so much history in this city read more

If you visit Berlin you must visit this piece of wall which is retained as a memorial. This is a very interesting site to visit. At the time of erection there were lot of sentimental happenings for the people of both the sides east and west. read more
