I was really excited to purchase a merino wool pullover from East Slope Outfitters in Big Sky Town Center. It was performing well, so I went back the next day and purchased a second one. Unfortunately, the first pullover started developing pulls almost immediately. One particularly long pull in the front snagged on something as minor as my cuticle--something that shouldn't even be possible. I also noticed additional pulls on the back, even though I had been careful with it. When I went into the store to discuss the issue, an employee was empathetic and directed me to the manager. However, the manager--a brunette helping a customer with ski goggles--was completely dismissive. When I explained the situation, she responded with, "Oh, it must have pulled on something." I acknowledged that it caught on my nail, but I was shocked that such an expensive pullover would be so fragile. Rather than offering any assistance or even engaging in a conversation about product quality, she quickly shut it down, saying they couldn't do anything since I had already had it for a few days. For a store selling high-end outdoor gear, I expected better durability and customer support. Spending around $130, I at least hoped for a discussion about quality assurance or a possible exchange. Instead, I was met with indifference. It felt like they cater more to tourists passing through than to customers who actually care about their purchases. If you're looking for durable gear from a store that stands behind its products, I'd recommend looking elsewhere. read more

Best ski shop I've ever been to. My snowboard had a gash in the sidewall and a broken edge. They told me they couldn't guarantee a repair would hold (I appreciated the honesty), but they were willing to try, and for a very fair price. When I picked up the board, they had not only performed the previously discussed repairs, but they also did a bunch of p-tex work on the base and a wax, and still charged me the previously agreed upon price. I'll definitely be back here next time I need tuning work done. read more

I have never skied and I had 0 idea of what we needed etc. The guys were all super helpful, friendly and comforting about what to expect! Great rate for rentals! This ski shop is located in the town center in Big Sky. This shop carries anything you can need for a true Big Sky experience. From ski supplies, rentals and clothing to chic winter clothing or Big Sky branded gifts, this store has it all. Coats, gloves, hats, etc. You could assemble an entire wardrobe here for every winter Montana need. Even if you don't need ski rentals, you can still find a wonderful assortment of Big Sky gifts to take home. I purchased my brother a nice Big Sky designed hat, my dad purchased a classy collared sweatshirt and I purchased a fur vest. If I lived locally, I'd probably shop here all the time for more beautiful wardrobe pieces! The store is super well-organized, spotlessly clean and carries a diverse range of inclusive sizes. The staff go above and beyond to be helpful, even offering to bring you alternative options to your dressing room. In general, this stop is a buzzing shop in Big Sky worth visiting! read more

Great ski rental experience. Researched online, and ESO had the best prices, plus reviews of great equipment and service. All true! We walked in, and with no hassle, got ski rentals for family of 4 for 3 days for $19.80/adults, $9.90/kids per day (we paid for an extra day to get them non-consecutive). They also have a good assortment of ski clothes and accessories in a range of prices -- we picked up a nice pair of goggles for dad, new ski pants for one of the kids, and stopped by later in the week for a new pair of ski pants for me. They also rent ice skates for $5/day. We were here 4 times over our 1-week stay, to pick up/drop off skis, and pick up/drop off ice skates, and always had a great experience. The owner, Dave is the real deal. He was even trout fishing in the river several days during the snowy 5 degree Christmas week weather. On top of that, he (and the rest of the staff) was always friendly, down-to-earth, and treated us well. Tip: Check out the sales rack outside - 40% off certain ski pants, jackets and sweaters. They had a nice pair of Columbia women's ski pants, regularly $100, just $60 - and, of course, no sales tax in MT! They have a few beautiful local paintings for viewing/sale, too. We rented skis and a snowboard during our week of skiing and couldn't have been happier with the service and prices. The owner of our condo rental told us this is their go-to ski store. We shopped around and East Slope is one of the cheapest if not the cheapest in the area. We showed up in the morning and were outfitted and on our way to the mountain in a jiffy. After the first day, we came back to exchange one of our party's skis for a shorter pair, no problem. A couple of days later, we swapped skiis for snowboard and again it was smooth. This ski shop has a wonderful assortment of clothing. Prices are very reasonable for a resort town. The airline lost my luggage and they were able to set me up with a full set of top end ski equipment including jacket and ski pants to rent for the day. Everything was new and top quality. I liked it better than my own equipment. The staff were very helpful and friendly. They spent time to ensure everything for well and I was comfortable. They saved my trip and I got into some excellent snow, perfectly timed right after a storm. read more

Awesome place to rent fly fishing gear and licenses. Month was super helpful, patient and kind. He knew what they were doing!! Since when does a half-day guide service equal only three hours? We came off of a brunch for a wedding, and came to the shop at 1 o'clock. The guy didn't get us on the river till well past two. One of, if not THE best ski rental experience I've ever had. Went to Big Sky with 4 buddies and we all needed rentals; not only did all 5 of us get hooked up with perfect skis for our individual needs, but the staff did so in a fun, fast and knowledgeable way. They were also really cool about letting us switch up skis whenever we wanted and didn't hassle us about small scratches and dings the skis got along the way. Not to mention the fact that they're the cheapest option for ski rentals I came across in the area. When I go back to Big Sky, I'll be sure to rent from East Slope again. Cheers! read more

I've been skiing for 45 years & this was the best, friendliest, & most helpful ski rental outfit I have ever rented from. I live in Virginia, but prefer Western skiing because it is so much better! I usually rent skis so that I don't have to lug them on the plane & will have more "up-to-date" equipment. ESO has excellent equipment. I LOVED the performance skis they fitted me with! I have had a chronic problem with medial malleolus (inside ankle bone) pain for YEARS!! I have complained to boot-fitters for years without any help. When I went to ESO, Jeff (red-headed) spent ~45 minutes with me, trying about 8 different pairs boots & evaluating my feet. I knew I was flat-footed which he diagnosed along with the fact that my ankles pronate (turn inward). He fitted me with a orthopedic insert for $50 - which I removed at the end of the rental & will use in future rentals --- MIRACLE!!! This ended YEARS of ankle pain. I wish someone had recommended this YEARS ago!!!!!!! Jeff gets 6+ out of 5 possible stars. He was incredibly patient, professional & determined to solve my problem!!!!! read more
