I love that they give us FREE shrimp chips and the service is always good. The waiters always have a smile on their face. I love that they're lunch specials are so affordable especially for college kids and it fills you up too! I always get the lunch combo of the Meatball Pho and Garden rolls but the portion is very good and will fill you up! We came into this restaurant on a Sunday evening at 5 pm with 7 people - 4 adults, 1 teen and 2 small children. When we came into the restaurant, there were no other patrons. We had to ask a waiter to take our order. We ordered vegetarian dumplings, but they were out so we switched to the meat dumplings. After we ordered, the waiter returned to inform us they were also out of meat dumplings as well as the carpaccio someone ordered. It took more than 15 minutes for my son's boba tea to arrive. Despite their being several crayon colored drawings posted, they didn't have any crayons for the children to use, and they were growing hungry as our orders took an excessive length of time, and tables that came in after us received their orders while we continued to wait. The quail someone ordered came out with the inside visibly raw and unquestionably undercooked. The spoon brought with my nephew's pho was dirty. My son ordered chicken fried rice and the chicken was ice cold. I ordered chicken curry and was brought a completely different dish (beef soup). On a positive note, once they actually the pho, it was very delicious. The owner/chef did come out and offered a tepid apology and took 2 dishes off the bill. Tried the beef pho and the hue soup here, and I've got to say the broth is pretty solid! The beef pho was very flavorful, and pho noodles cooked just right. I've been so disappointed so many times with hue soup with no flavor, but this wasn't the case for here! Also, they don't include the traditional things like tendon or pork blood, so if you're looking for that, just be aware. Wow! Wish I came here earlier. I always walk by it when there's festivals by Main Street but just never made the initiative. That changed recently and I was blown away by the portion and importantly, the freshness and flavors! Got the lunch special and it was such a deal. Came with two summer rolls, a drink of your choosing, and an entree. I devoured the summer rolls before taking a pic cause it was that good haha. And I'm Vietnamese so it takes a lot to impress me! This was one of the most authentic, flavorful and delicious Vietnamese restaurants that we've ever been to. Totally a hidden gem in Fairfax. They gave out shrimp chips as an appetizer. We both had the lunch specials with the garden rolls, which were excellent. Peanut sauce was good. The vermicelli bowl was, quote from my better half, "the best I've ever had." The pho broth was clean and perfectly refreshing even on a summer day. They gave us complementary caramel flan for dessert - perfect size. I also had a Vietnamese iced coffee, which was really good. I love East Wind! It's a cute, delicious, economical place to get lunch in downtown Fairfax. (Or dinner...but I've only gone for lunch.) The lunch specials are great, whether you want an entree, drink, and appetizer or just an entree. My favorite thing about East Wind is that they also offer their specials on the weekends. The pho measures up to other pho places in the area. My favorite, though, is the vermicelli bowl with pork, especially as we transition out of soul season into spring. The decor is cute and this place surprisingly goes very far back! You can see Woody's from the windows by the (clean) restrooms. The servers are friendly and were very accommodating to our baby. I placed a to-go order of Pho in the restaurant. First, it was $13.95 in the restaurant vs $11.95 on their website. They said it they need to update the website but looking at pictures of menus it's been this price for at least 6 months. Get to it already. The order took forever. Pho is usually very quick. The place wasn't all that busy either. I asked the waiter and he said it will be some more time. I waited like 10 more minutes after (probably 25 minutes total) before it came out and then they told me that it had been ready for 10 minutes and they just forgot to bring it up. The order was for a family member so I can't comment on the taste but I did note that the portion of meat looked small and while I ordered two meats, it looked like only one. read more

What a pleasant surprise! While out and about in downtown Fairfax, a hunger creeped up on us. Planning on something simple, we decided to give what appeared to be a small store front Vietnamese restaurant a try. Needless to say, we were surprised and impressed with the entire experience. The host and wait staff were very helpful and attentive in welcoming us and getting us ready to order. Quick to help with suggestions from their lunch special menu, we decided on a mix of specials; for my wife, the Hue Soup, which is a beef-based, beef flank steak with a noodle more like vermicelli; for my son, the chicken and broccoli with rice; for me, the lunch Combo of Pho Ga and the Spring Rolls. After sampling one anothers we all agreed they were equally delicious. On a personal note: on a quick visit to the mens room I noticed a very old (and water stained) print on the wall that was likely a remnant from a prior restaurant. It was of the lighthouse at Cove Point from Maryland, which has special significance for my family. For a quick and delicious lunch I can definitely recommend East Wind. I really wanted to like this place and to have another good pho spot in nova. The outside of the restaurant is so cute for old town Fairfax . Street parking was easy to find. We went inside and the interior is a bit outdated but that didn't really matter because some of the best pho places are like that. The had a great lunch special where you can get a bowl of pho along with a spring roll and soft drink . I ordered one pho tai with spring roll and coke . They brought our drinks out fast along with some complimentary shrimp chips which were fresh. They did let us know ahead of time that the banh xeo would not come out until the end of the meal which we thought was a bit odd but we were okay with that . The spring rolls came out and they were delicious. Next came my pho and the boyfriends Bun Bo Hue. I thought the pho broth was delicious and the noodles were cooked to perfection. The unfortunate part is the meat was not sliced thin, it was very thick making it very chewy and difficult to eat. I actually did not finish the meat. My boyfriend was pretty upset about the Bun Bo Hue and stated that he felt it was definitely not authentic broth. When the Banh Xeo came out, I could tell by looking at it that it would not be good . The shrimp was small and not good quality and the whole thing tasted terrible . It was also kinda weird they gave lemon instead of lime for the soups. Excellent food and service. I had the Bo kho beef stew with baguette and my friend had the pho tai chin. The soups were flavorful, had depth and complex flavors, the bread was soft, and they gave complimentary fried shrimp chips AND a bite size free flan dessert. It is nicely decorated inside, and though it seems small, the restaurant space is very long and goes way back. I would definitely come here again. Two generous stars. Called to make reservations and the phone rang nine times before going to a fax machine. Called an hour later, and I guess rather than answer the phone or hear it ring, they just decided to leave it off the hook, because I got a busy signal twice. Never a good sign. So we arrived unannounced but were promptly seated, if you could call it that. Waiter asked the number of our party, I responded with "two." He responded with "ok", turned, and walked off. After he hit yard ten, he glanced over his shoulder at us. Not sure if he was running a fade route or what, but I interpreted the glance to mean, "are you guys coming or what?" So, I decided we should follow him, which I guess was the right answer because after meandering through the restaurant we found him standing at an empty table which I decided to claim. This was doing to be a do-it-yourself dining adventure. Ten minutes later I went back to the front and found some menus and took back to our table, then flagged someone down to take our order. If I had paper I would have just wrote it down myself and taken it to the kitchen. We didn't see the waiter, or any waiter at our table again. Ordered the banh xeo for an appetizer. Huge dish full of bean sprouts. Served hot and prompt. Not a bad dish. The fish sauce was quite good. We had a soup (hue) and I had the shaky beef (bo luc lac). The soup was decent, the shaky beef was not. First bite of the beef dish brought a simply overwhelming flavor of the worst kind of artificial liquid smoke. Completely soaked in it. Even the vegetables on the plate were doused. I can muscle my way through most any dish, but half of it remained on the plate when we left. Nothing on the plate tasted like food. I don't mind poor service, sometimes it makes the experience an adventure when the food is good. But East Wind did not amuse. It is a nice space in a quaint location. However, I highly recommend the shaky beef be a little more shaky and less smokey, and the service a little more quicky and less goney all the timey. read more

We are new to Fairfax City (although have lived in Northern VA for the past 20 years). My wife and I recently stopped by and had the lunch combo which is actually a very reasonable price price (Appetizer, entree, and soft drink for $13). We consider ourselves Vietnamese food aficionados (we even went to Vietnam last summer). Bottom line, the pho tasted like it was instant noodle pho (lacked depth and flavor) and the rest of the dishes were simply average. We were so disappointed as we were hoping this would be our go to location for Vietnamese food since it's within walking distance of our house. Usually the mango sticky rice is on point, but this time it was seriously lacking. I didn't realize mangoes aren't in season until a co-worker told me. Still, the rice didn't seem very fresh, and the dish as a whole wasn't very sweet. Usually this dish is on the verge of being TOO SWEET, so it caught me off guard. Although I've been to other pho restaurants that have larger serving sizes, it was still enough to make you full. Moreover, there was several slices of beef and even pork in my bowl. Also, their bean sprouts and basil were extremely fresh and made the soup even better. Overall, the restaurant is rather clean and food comes out relatively quickly. Pork summer rolls - They were a piece of lettuce, vermicelli noodles and a single piece of pork wrapped in rice paper. They were so thin they looked like a taquito. Not restaurant quality at all. Old town pho - I only got brisket and two pieces of meatball. The noodles were cooked then dried so when you add the broth, the noodles just broke into small pieces. Looked as though I was eating chicken noodle soup. The broth was very salty. Didn't get all the other meats that was advertised on the menu! The weather outside started to reach below 50 degrees so I was craving a good bowl of pho. Based on popular reviews, I had to try this place when I was in Old Town Fairfax. Good thing I did because I think I found my new go-to restaurant for any future pho cravings! Parking in Old Town Fairfax is sometimes a pain. There are some nearby lots that offer free parking or two hour parking (just make sure you read the signs first). There are also a few parallel parking spots around the restaurant (if you can get lucky to find one). If you can't find a spot then your last resort will be to park in the garage off University Drive (the garage entrance will be underneath Green Turtle, Potbelly, etc.). The restaurant isn't too big when you first walk inside and surprisingly it wasn't too busy for a Saturday around lunchtime. We got seated right away and we were greeted within two minutes. They offer different lunch entrees for $7-8 or lunch combos between $11-12 before 3pm on Saturdays. The dinner entrees are obviously a lot bigger but they're only $9-11. I ordered one lunch combo which included (one appetizer and one entree and one soda) for about $11. I got the Old Town Pho as my entree and two spring rolls as the appetizer. Honestly the spring rolls were fresh and delicious while the Pho was also amazing. Any homemade pho will always be the best but this bowl will definitely come close and satisfy your pho craving! Overall the food was awesome and the service was perfect too! The waitress even included a free plate of their caramel flan which was also delicious. I was blown away by the freshness of the ingredients and the skill of the chef for such an affordable price today. Easy Wind serves delicious food with exceptional service in a nice ambience. My five year old loved the spring rolls, strawberry bubble tea, and drawing on his paper tablecloth with the crayons they provided upon request. Went here during covid and couldn't have felt safer (and I'm currently pregnant, so safety is VERY important). They are taking every precaution possible and we loved their outdoor seating. Been working on Fairfax City for a little bit now and was excited to finally try East Wind. What a cute storefront. The employee who was at the front of house was great. I loved the lunch special options--seemed like a decent deal to me. The food came out quickly and hit the spot for me. However, as I was enjoying my meal, another employee came out and roamed the tiny restaurant maskless. He also brought the check to my table, maskless, as I was finishing up. It's one thing to be sitting still at your own table while eating, and quite another to wander around maskless. This was a major turnoff for me. They have the nerve to have MASKS FOR SALE as you walk in the door, and yet have no respect for the patrons who are eating inside the establishment. So, I guess it's a pass for me. read more

I enjoyed the food here a lot, in particular the hot pot and the Vietnamese crepe were very good. The spring rolls were okay, not bad but not the greatest imo. My biggest issue with the place is the parking, there really is none in front of the restaurant. You will need to park in the garage that is a block over. Prices were reasonable. read more

This restaurant is probably my favorite Vietnamese restaurant in the DMV area. I work very close to this place so I just walk here during my lunch break maybe every other week. They give you a free appetizer which is shrimp crackers/chips with two different hot sauces. The employees here take your order quickly and bring it out to you quickly as well. I've had the pho, vermicelli, and banh mi here so far and they were ALL delicious. I love how they cook the vermicelli and banh mi meat. It's super flavorful and delicious. They also customize the food to your liking like I don't like raw bean sprouts so I ask them to cook it for me beforehand. VERY accommodating. I will forever be a regular here :) read more
