This is yet another of those ghastly soulless out of town shopping centres which is driving the nails into the coffin of the independent business. I loathe the Eastgate Centre, probably because I live so close. I also have to spend too much time there as I need to go most weeks to buy cat litter and cat food from Pets at Home. It has an Ikea which is apparently really exciting for most people because we have had so many friends drop in on their way to or from it because we live so close. I must be alone in thinking Ikea is full of total junk that just falls apart within a few years. It depresses me utterly. The Tesco here has been the reason for about 99 per cent of the rows I have ever had with my husband. It is huge and 24-hour yes, but it is horrendous and full of people with no self-awareness who just bang trolleys into you, bash into you and let their foul kids run riot. The petrol station is always really busy. There's also a Boot's which is open til 8pm and very handy, an Asda home, Mothercare, Mamas and Papas, Laura Ashley, Burger King, Halfords and Next. Yes it's useful, yes there's ample parking, but it is just so uninspiring. read more
